1.0 Scope
This procedure defines the method required to test the KeyStudio 49i
keyboard.

4.0 Process Description
4.1 The KeyStudio 49i needs to be in the “like new” state: All knobs turned
to the left, all faders down, and the product turned OFF.
4.2 The computer is ON.
4.3 Connect the USB cable from the computer to the KeyStudio 49i unit.
4.4 Connect the power cable to the KeyStudio 49i unit.
4.5 Connect speakers (left and right) to the Output R and L/Mono ports on
the back of the unit.
4.6 RESET the KeyStudio 49i during power up by pressing and holding
the Octave <and >keys while switching the power on with the I O
switch on the back of the unit.
4.7 On the computer, launch MIDI OX.
4.8 From the top menu, select Options. From the drop down menu,
select MIDI Devices.

4.9 In the MIDI Devices window, in the MIDI Input field, select 1) M-
Audio KeyStudio IO MIDI In.
4.10 In the MIDI Output field, select 2) Microsoft GS Wavetable SW
Synth and 1) M-Audio KeyStudio IO MIDI Out.
4.11 Check the Port Mapping field to see that both choices from the MIDI
Output field are displayed.
4.12 Click OK.
4.13 TEST KEYBOARD FUNCTIONS
4.13.1 Push the VOLUME up to MAX. Check for a response in MIDI
OX.
4.13.2 Test each key on the keyboard for sound and response in MIDI
OX.
4.13.3 Test the PITCHBEND wheel while pressing keys – check
sound for the note to bend and for response in MIDI OX.

4.13.4 Test the MODULATION wheel while pressing keys – check
sound for the note to modulate and for response in MIDI OX.
4.13.5 Press the Octave buttons while tapping a key on the keyboard.
Test for sound modulation.
4.13.6 Press the Edit Mode button – blue light should come on.
4.13.7 In the Piano Controls field on the front of the KeyStudio; test
the Reverb button by tapping keys – check for varying sound
reverb and a response in MIDI OX.
4.13.8 Test the Piano Vol knob for sound control and a response in
MIDI OX.
4.13.9 Test Piano Reset button for a response in MIDI OX.
4.13.10 Connect headphones to port 1 on the front left edge of the
KeyStudio 49i.
4.13.11 Test for sound.
4.13.12 Connect headphones to port 2 on the front left edge of the
KeyStudio 49i.
4.13.13 Test for sound.
4.13.14 Connect the SP-2 Sustain Pedal to the Sustain port on the
back of the unit.
4.13.15 Press the pedal and check for a response in MIDI OX.
4.13.16 Disconnect SP-2 Sustain Pedal and headphones.

4.14 TEST AUDIO CONTROLS
4.14.1 Connect audio source to Aux Input R on the back of the
KeyStudio 49i.
4.14.2 Test the Direct Monitor knob for sound from the right speaker.
4.14.3 Depress the Mono button – sound should come from both
speakers.
4.14.4 Release the Mono button.
4.14.5 Switch audio source to Aux Input L on the back of the
KeyStudio 49i.
4.14.6 Test the Direct Monitor knob for sound from the left speaker.
4.14.7 Depress the Mono button – sound should come from both
speakers. Release the Mono button.
4.14.8 Connect audio source to Instrument port on the back of the
KeyStudio 49i.
4.14.9 Set the Direct Monitor knob straight up to a 12:00 o’clock
position.
4.14.10 Test the Inst. Gain knob for sound volume control.
4.14.11 Connect a microphone to the XLR port on the back of the
KeyStudio 49i.
4.14.12 Test the Mic Gain knob for sound volume control.
4.14.13 Disconnect audio source and microphone.

4.15 TEST MIDI
4.15.1 Connect the KeyStudio 49i MIDI OUT to the In port on the MIDI
sound module (MidiSport).
4.15.2 Connect speakers to the MIDI sound module.
4.15.3 Press keys on the KeyStudio 49i keyboard to test for sound.
4.16 TEST COMPLETION
4.16.1 Turn the KeyStudio 49i OFF.
4.16.2 Disconnect all cables.
4.16.3 Return the KeyStudio 49i to a “like new” state: All knobs turned
to the left, all faders down, and the product turned OFF.
