RM1/RM2 Drive Unit Replacement
ÞBefore printing, consider the environment 2
-You will now have access to the cables attached to the drive unit. Remove the cables,
but avoid pulling them further out of the chassis! Also, the cable connectors are coded
and will only fit in on its specific connector:
-Connect the replacement driver the same way, and follow the previous instructions in
reverse order to mount the driver back onto the chassis. Tighten the screws, but be
careful not to over tighten them. Make sure the drive unit sits flush in its opening!
-There are no additional adjustments needed to calibrate the speaker, however, to ensure
the replacement is working properly and is mounted correctly you should run the
following tests:
* set the controls on the back of the speaker to its factory default settings (“Neutral”)
* play back some of your reference audio files at your reference levels
* create a Pro Tools session with the Signal Generator plug in, output channel set to the
specific speaker. Run a slow frequency sweep from 20Hz-20kHz manually.
You should hear no undefined/unwanted resonance noise, or feel air coming out from
anywhere around the drive unit. If you do, you will need to check the mounting of your
drive unit: loosen the screws again, and ensure that the driver sits firm and flush in its
opening in the chassis. Tighten the screws as indicated before, and run the tests again.
It is normal that there might be a slight difference in the sound reproduction with a new
drive unit. Depending on the usage of the speaker, this will go away in a few days once
the driver has been “broken in”.
