H.264canwithoutcompromisingimagequalityreducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion
JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace
arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherwaymuchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.
Decidingwhichcombinationofprotocolsandmethodstousedependsonyourviewingrequirementsandonthepropertiesof

ThebitratecanbesetasVariablebitrate(VBR)orMaximumbitrate(MBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage
complexityusingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimageandlessforlowerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin
thesceneincreasesthebitratewouldusuallyincreaseaswell.Ifthereisasurplusinbandwidththismaynotbeanissueand
selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)willbesufcient.Butifbandwidthislimiteditisrecommendedtocontrolthebitratebyselecting
Maximumbitrate(MBR).WhentheactivityinthesceneincreasesVBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtothecomplexityusingup
morebandwidthforincreasedactivityinthesceneandlessforlowersceneactivity.MBRallowsyoutosetatargetbitratethat
limitsthebandwidthconsumption.
