2. Safety Regulations
The proper handling of perchlorethylene is an important prerequisite for workplace safety.
Note the following potential hazards:
TETRACHLORETHENE (perc) is a ery good grease remo er; it also remo es natural oils from
unprotected skin.
Protection: Wear sol ent-resistant protecti e glo es, apply skin cream with oil to the hands.
Liquid TETRACHLORETHENE (perc) is a strong irritant to the eyes.
Protection: Wear protecti e goggles.
Inhalation of TETRACHLORETHENE (perc) apors reduces alcohol tolerance.
Protection: Do not consume alcohol while working or for a short time after.
TETRACHLORETHENE (perc) decomposes in the presence of an open flame or red-hot parts.
Protection: No smoking.
TETRACHLORETHENE (perc) apors irritate the mucous membranes of the respiratory
passage and eyes.
Protection: Pre ent apors from escaping and wear respiratory equipment when performing
extensi e maintenance work (DIN 3181 gas filter, brown).
Caution: It is possible to smell perc (odor threshold) in concentrations as low as
5 ml/m
3
of air.
TETRACHLORETHENE (perc) affects the central ner ous system similar to an
anesthetic and can result in unconsciousness and, in ery high concentrations, e en
in death.
Do not ove load the machine.
The operating instructions pro ided by the company define special rules and regulations for the area
where the machine is installed. These instructions also contain information on all additional protecti e
measures, first aid instructions and information on correct beha ior during operating malfunctions,
according to the local conditions.
The German Hazardous Substances Ordinance, BGR 500 chapter 2.14 and the 2nd BImSchV
stipulate the obligation to pro ide operating instructions.
