General
The equipment, the accessories and the preparations are to be used in accordance
with the user instructions and/or the product information.
The instructions are part of the scope of delivery and are to be stored in the vicinity of
the device for later reference. This also applies if possession of the device is transferred
elsewhere.
Before the device is put into operation, these instructions are to be read carefully and
completely in order for the user to become familiarised with all functions.
The warnings and safety precautions (Section 1.5) are always to be followed during use.
The manufacturer will not assume any responsibility for the device's safety or functional
ability in the event of improper handling or usage contrary to the intended purpose.
In the event of unauthorised alterations/modifications, both the warranty claim and
the CE conformity will become void.

1.1 Intended use
The LABOCOOL laboratory cooler is used to cool aqueous liquids in ultrasonic baths and
other open sonication vessels.
The LABOCOOL laboratory cooler is only suitable for ultrasonic baths or other vessels
with a floor drain.
The device is intended for commercial use and is designed for unobserved continuous
operation.
The target group for its use is trained specialists in laboratories or research facilities.
1.2 Mode of operation
With the integrated centrifugal pump, the bath liquid that is heated by the ultrasonic bath is
conveyed into a circuit through the LABOCOOL laboratory cooler and cooled to the desired
temperature. The integrated temperature controller enables the target temperature to be
set and the actual temperature to be displayed. The heated exhaust air is discharged from
the upper part of the device, either on the front or rear side, or one of the lateral surfaces of
the device.
The LABOCOOL laboratory cooler is table-top operated using the buttons on the front of
the device.

1.5 Warnings and safety precautions
General
• Keep the laboratory cooler out of the reach of children and also of persons who have not
been instructed in its operation according to these instructions.
• No warranty is provided in the event of damage to the laboratory cooler due to the use of
unsuitable agents or additives in the contact liquid.
• Do not introduce aggressive liquids into the laboratory cooler.
• Do not expose the laboratory cooler directly to sunlight and do not position it in
the vicinity of heat sources.
• Keep the surface of the laboratory cooler and operating elements clean and dry.
• Do not expose the laboratory cooler to corrosive influences.
• Do not place the laboratory cooler in an environment that contains salty air.
• Empty the laboratory cooler only while turned off.
• The laboratory coolers are in compliance with prescribed EMC limit values, so it can
be assumed that the electromagnetic radiation emanating from the devices is harmless
to humans. A binding statement for wearers of implants can only be made at the place
of work together with the implant manufacturer. In case of doubt, information regarding
the allowable electromagnetic exposure level should be obtained from the implant
manufacturer.

Operation
• Observe environmental and set-up conditions, see chapter 1.4.
• Only plug the laboratory cooler into a power outlet with a grounded socket.
• Do not operate the laboratory cooler without liquid/water circulation.
Cooling
• Information on the cooling unit:
– Refrigerant: R-290; quantity: 90 g, extremely flammable
• The cooling circuit must not be damaged!
The cooling unit contains flammable coolant!
If the cooling circuit is damaged, immediately disconnect the power plug and ventilate
the installation room well. Send the laboratory cooler to the manufacturer for repair.
• Never cover or close the incoming or outgoing air openings.
• In order to protect the refrigeration unit, the compressor will only start after a resting
period of two minutes.
Damage
• If any damage to the laboratory cooler is detected, do not connect the laboratory cooler
to the mains.
• In the event of defects, disconnect the power plug immediately.
• Repairs must only be conducted by authorised skilled personnel or by the manufacturer.
• Defective parts may only be replaced with original parts.
Maintenance
• Maintenance may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
• Before opening, disconnect the device from the mains.

2 Preparation
Carefully unpack the laboratory cooler and accessories and inspect them for completeness
or possible transportation damages. If any damage or defects are detected, immediately
report this in writing to the forwarding agent and supplier.
Before being put into service, the laboratory cooler should stand at its operating location for
2 hours so that it can adjust to the ambient conditions.
2.1 Scope of delivery

2.2 Setup / assembly
The LABOCOOL laboratory cooler can be placed in various positions close to the ultrasonic
bath or other vessel to be cooled. The LABOCOOL laboratory cooler is connected
to an ultrasonic bath or other vessel to be cooled by means of a flexible hose, which
is mounted onto the outlet of the ultrasonic bath. The cooled liquid is returned to the
ultrasonic bath via the supplied mounting clamp, which is attached to the tank edge.
• Place the laboratory cooler on a firm, level and dry surface near the ultrasonic bath,
if possible in a spot without direct sunlight. In doing so,
– observe the maximum weight of the laboratory cooler, including the ultrasonic bath
and liquid.
For net weight, see technical data in Section 1.4.
– Observe the minimum distances of at least 10 cm for the incoming and outgoing air.
See diagram.
– Guard against moisture and wetness – risk of electric shock.
• The laboratory cooler must be positioned so that the power supply can easily
be disconnected.
• The cover can be removed with the supplied tool and it can be turned and reattached
as desired. This allows the operator to choose the direction of the air flow. Operation
without a cover is not permitted.
Important
The inlet of the laboratory cooler must be installed below the level of the liquid.

Setup
The laboratory cooler can be set up next to or under the ultrasonic bath to be connected.
In any case, it is important to ensure that the drain hose slopes from the connected
ultrasonic bath to the inlet of the laboratory cooler, and that the liquid can flow into
the laboratory cooler on its own.
The inlet of the laboratory cooler may be up to one meter below the outlet, so that
the laboratory cooler can also be placed under the work surface.
View from the rear:
Important
Do not screw the ball valve or adapter all the way to the limit stop, or unscrew them by
turning them to the left, as this will impair the sealing capability of the sealing tape.
Mounting – ultrasonic bath outlet
Replace the existing ball valve at the outlet of the ultrasonic bath with a 3-way ball
valve with hose sockets.
Remove old sealing tape.
Wrap the external thread in multiple layers with the sealing tape supplied.
For a ¼
"
outlet, the nut with the adapter must first be fixed to the drain pipe with
sealing tape.
Screw on the 3-way ball valve.
Also wrap the hose sockets with sealing tape and fasten them in the 3-way ball valve.

Cut the hose to a suitable length and connect it between the laboratory cooler and
the 3-way ball valve.
The hose must not be kinked.
Fix the outlet at the tank edge of the ultrasonic bath with the screw. Connect the hose
to the laboratory cooler.
Mounting – ultrasonic bath inlet
Place the inflow nozzle on a tank corner of the ultrasonic bath and fasten it with
the screws
Cut the hose to a suitable length and connect it between the laboratory cooler and
the inlet nozzle.
The hose must not be kinked.
2.3 Putting into service
In order to transmit the ultrasound between the oscillating tank and the laboratory flasks,
the tank must be filled with a contact liquid composed of normal municipal or deionised
water together with a surfactant, e.g. TICKOPUR TR 3.
Connect the laboratory cooler to the power supply (grounded socket).
Fill the oscillating tank of the ultrasonic bath according to the separate operating
instructions. Set/open the 3-way ball valve on the ultrasonic bath in the direction of
the drain hose.
The liquid must not be contaminated with particles.
Oscillating tank filled to filling level mark.
Switch on the laboratory cooler at the main switch – the pump starts immediately.
It may be necessary to fill the oscillating tank up to the filling mark.

3 Operation
3.1 Operating elements
The unit is operated from the front:
3.1.1 On/Off
Caution
In order to avoid compressor failure, a cooling delay of 2 minutes has been programmed
at start-up.
The laboratory cooler is switched on and offat the main switch on the rear. After turning on,
the LCD display must light up.
The parameters most recently selected will be saved and become available the next time
the device is turned on.
Notes:
• The On/Offbutton on the display is used to switch offthe cooling function. The pump
remains switched on. The display shows “OFF”. To switch the device on or off,
the button must be pressed for a longer time.
• If no button is pressed for 30 seconds, all settings are saved and the laboratory cooler is
ready for operation.

3.3 Setting the temperature
Press the “Set” button for 3 seconds. The current setpoint is displayed and
the temperature unit symbol °C starts to flash.
The target temperature can be set within a range of 10 – 30 °C with the
and buttons.
By pressing the “Set” button, the set value is confirmed.
Place sample containers.
Once the target temperature has been reached, the ultrasound can be started,
see separate operating instructions.

4 Cleaning and maintenance
To achieve an optimum lifespan, cleaning and maintenance should be conducted regularly.
Following are instructions for manual cleaning and care.
CAUTION!
Disconnect the laboratory cooler from the mains before each cleaning / maintenance.
Do not rinse or immerse the laboratory cooler in water and do not expose it to splash water.
4.1 Cleaning and care
Liquid circuit
The contact liquid circuit runs, during operation, from the tank's outlet through the pump,
to the cooling unit, and from there back to the tank. For reasons of hygiene, this circuit
must be regularly flushed.
Fill the oscillating tank with liquid.
Switch on the laboratory cooler. The internal pump starts operating and flushes
the cooling unit.
Allow the pump to run for at least 5 min.
Switch offand empty the laboratory cooler by opening the 3-way ball valve.
Repeat the described rinsing process at least twice.
After the last emptying, wipe dry the oscillating tank using a soft cloth.
Housing
• Do not use abrasive cleaners, only use commercially-available care products without
scouring agents.
• Wipe the housing only from the outside with a moist cloth; if needed, use a suitable
surface disinfectant, then allow to dry or rub dry.
4.2 Disinfection
If the laboratory cooler is disinfected improperly or irregularly, microbiological contamination
is possible due to the colonisation of microorganisms, especially in the tubes, which can
result in cross-contamination. Therefore, the liquid circuit and the device surface must be
disinfected and cleaned regularly.
4.3 Warehousing / storage
During long periods of non-use, the laboratory cooler should be disconnected from
the mains and stored in a cool, dry location.
During storage and transportation, make sure that frost does not form due to the residual
liquid left in the cooling unit!

5 Maintenance and repair
Repair work on the inside of the device may only be carried out by authorised, qualified
personnel or by the manufacturer.
The manufacturer assumes no liability for any unauthorised work.
Filter cleaning
Filter cleaning should be performed at least once a month or depending on the level of dust
in the installation environment.
• Open the plastic grid from above and remove the filter
• Clean the filter by washing it with warm water.
Important
Do not use hard brushes or sharp objects
to prevent damage to the filter.
Replace the filter and close the plastic grid.
5.1 Malfunction / error analysis
Overview of error messages issued:

5.2 Repair
Repair work may only be carried out by authorised, qualified personnel or by
the manufacturer. The manufacturer assumes no liability for any unauthorised work.
5.3 Service
If the function test identifies any errors or defects that cannot be remedied, the laboratory
cooler may no longer be used. In this case, the manufacturer must be contacted.

Returns are subject to the General Conditions of Delivery and Payment of
BANDELIN electronic GmbH & Co. KG.
The laboratory cooler also needs to be cleaned and, if necessary, decontaminated before
being sent back. After that, fill out the “Certificate of Decontamination” properly and attach
it visibly to the outside of the package. If this form has not been filled out, we reserve
the right to refuse receipt of the package in order to protect our employees. The “Certificate
of Decontamination” can be downloaded from our website as a PDF file:

Returns should always be sent in an upright position so that the laboratory cooler does not
leak during transport.
To do so, we recommend returning the laboratory cooler on a pallet.
Please report any malfunctions to us in writing.
5.4 Emptying the system
If the laboratory cooler needs to be sent to the manufacturer for repair, or stored unused
for a longer period of time, the system must be emptied.
Disconnect the hoses and transfer the liquid from the laboratory cooler to an outlet
or bucket.
The laboratory cooler can be tilted a maximum of 90° for emptying in order to also
remove the liquid from the cooling coils.
Important
The laboratory cooler may not be switched on during this process as this will destroy
the pump.

6 Taking the unit out of service
The device must be disposed of appropriately, not with household waste.
Disposal must be conducted in accordance with the Waste, Electrical and
Electronic Equipment Directive 2012/19/EU.
Any supplementary/deviating national regulations must be observed.
• The device must be decontaminated before disposal. It can then be disposed of
as electronic waste. If decontamination is incomplete/cannot be correctly performed,
a material safety data sheet noting the liquids used must be affixed to each device.
• Metal accessories such as the lid or basket should be decontaminated and disposed of
as metal waste.
• Plastic accessories such as insert baskets, silicone knob mats or lids must be
decontaminated and disposed of.
• The packaging is recyclable.
