ASSEMBLY
1. Install the lower handle to the main frame using 8 of the 3/8” X 1” bolts, 8 of the 3/8”
nuts and 16 of the 3/8” flat washers which are provided. Tighten later.
2. Install the lower handle support bars – tighten fasteners on either side of the handle.
Tighten all nuts and bolts securely.
3. Install the upper handle using 4 of the 5/6” bolts, 4 of the 5/16” locknuts, and 8 of the
5/16” flat washers.
4. Assemble clutch handle bar on to the upper handle using 2 of the ¼” x 1-3/4” bolts, 6 of
the ¼” flat washers and 2 of the ¼” lock nuts. Next install the ball clevis #5 to the clutch
handle bar using 1 of the ¼” X 1” bolts, 1 or the ¼” lock nuts. All pieces must move
freely. Attach the clutch cable #6 to the clevis #53 and #5.

CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT
The BA-4 Air-Ject Aerator is equipped with a belt tightening clutch.
1. Squeeze the clutch control bar up towards the handle as far as possible. This causes the
idler pulley to press down and tighten the V-belt. Proper tension is obtained when the
belt does not slip when the tines are placed in the ground. If the V-belt slips under load,
release the clutch cable and turn the threaded cable stud clockwise two or three
rotations to shorten the clutch cable. Note: Overtightening of the V-belt may cause
damage to the other components including the belt itself. It may become necessary to
back the clutch cable all the way off (see fig.3) and loosen the engine mounting bolts
and slide the engine back ¼” and tighten the bolts securely.

TINE INSTALLATION
Tines are supplied in the carton. (25 Core Tines, 25 Slitter Slicer, or 18 Fracture Tines).
These are attached to the 5 disc reel as follows:
1. Attach the tines to the reel using the bolts and nuts provided – check direction of tines
and tighten securely. The open side of the core tine faces toward the back of the
machine when in the ground.

ENGINE
Proper engine operation and maintenance instructions have been provided with this unit by
the engine manufacturer. It is important to read and maintain this manual. Engine
difficulty, if any, should be reported to an authorized engine manufacturers’ service centre.
Warranty of this engine and engine accessories are also provided by the engine
manufacturer.
OPERATION
Read these instructions carefully.
Check the engine fuel and oil levels before starting the engine.
Switch on the fuel supply and ignition.
Start the engine by pulling the recoil started on the engine, if necessary use the choke
located under the air filter.
Tilt the machine backward (toward the operator) until the aerator tines are free of the
ground.
Engage the operator presence control clutch.
Tilt machine forward (away from the operator) until aeration tines make contact with the
ground.
The rear wheels of the aerator are not powered, however, the rotating action of the tine
reel will pull the machine forward.
Add or remove weights from the front of the machine to obtain the desired depth of
penetration.
It is recommended to lift the wheels of the unit off of the ground when in operation to
ensure total weight on the tines to reach maximum depth of aeration.
At the end of the strip of turf to be aerated, disengage the clutch and tilt the machine
backward onto the wheels lifting the aeration tines out of the ground, turn the machine,
reengage the operator presence control clutch, tilt the machine forward and continue.
The tines are not to be in contact with the turf in a turn. Damage sustained by turning in
the turf is not covered by warranty.
In dry conditions it is not advisable to use the aerator.
Use only for aerating turf.
After every use, always clean the machine, ensuring that the core tines are free of soil, and
lightly oil the inside and outside of the core tines with vegetable oil.

SERVICE
Before attempting any maintenance or removal of the guards, stop the engine, switch off
the fuel supply and remove the spark plug lead from the spark plug. Two 6mm nuts and
bolts hold the metal belt guard in place.
Fit only genuine components to this machine.
After every use always clean the machine, ensuring that the core tines are free of soil, and
lightly oil the inside and outside of the core tines with vegetable oil. This ensures the cores
are ejected easily when operated the next time, resulting in better penetration of the turf.
Check that the tine fixing u-bolt ad nuts are tightened correctly.
To replace tines, loosen and remove the flange nuts, remove the saddles and the u-bolt
from the tine and slide the tine forward. To install the new tines, reverse this operation.
LUBRICATION
1. There are 3 grease fittings on this aerator; one near the center of the tine reel, and one
on each wheel. We suggest that these points be lubricated after each days operation.
2. Oil the chain and check its tension.
3. Grease wheel bearings.
4. Oil clutch lever and belt tightening pivot bar.
