1. Basic Safety Instructions
1.1 Notes on this manual
Please read carefully before commissioning the devices.
The user manual is a onstituent part of the produ t. It must be kept in the dire t vi inity
of the devi e and a essible at all times to installation, operating and maintenan e
personnel.
It ontains important notes, safety instru tions and test ertifi ates whi h are ne essary
for perfe t fun tioning when the devi es are being operated and handled.
The user manual is written for all people who arry out assembly, installation,
ommissioning and maintenan e work on the produ t, whereby the dire tives and
standards appli able to areas with a gas or dust atmosphere (2014/34/EU, EN/IEC
60079-17 and EN/IEC 60079-19) must be observed when doing su h work.
Familiarity with and stri t adheren e to the safety instru tions and warnings in this manual
are essential for safe installation and ommissioning. Careful handling and onsistent
observation of these instru tions an prevent a idents, personal injuries and damage to
property.
The illustrations in these operating instru tions serve to make the information and
des riptions more lear. They are not ne essarily true to s ale and may deviate slightly
from the a tual onstru tion of the devi e.

1.2 Handling the product
The produ t des ribed in these operating instru tions has been tested and left the fa tory
in perfe t ondition as regards meeting safety requirements. To maintain this ondition and
ensure that this produ t operates perfe tly and safely, it may be used only in the manner
des ribed by the manufa turer. Appropriate transportation, suitable storage and areful
operation are also essential for the perfe t and safe operation of this produ t. The POLARIS
must be installed properly and se urely if it is to work perfe tly and orre tly.
The safe and perfe t mounting of the POLARIS is a pre ondition for faultless and orre t
operation.
1.3 Use in accordance with the intended purpose
1.3.1 Exclusive purpose
It is used ex lusively in ombination with operating devi es whi h satisfy the requirements
for Overvoltage Category I.
The POLARIS II Panel PCs have been designed spe ially for use in hazardous (potentially
explosive) areas in Zone 2 or Zones 21 and 22.
It is essential to observe the permissible operational data for the devi e being used.
1.3.2 Improper Use
Any other use is not in a ordan e with the intended purpose and an ause damage and
a idents. The manufa turer will not be liable for any use beyond that of its ex lusive
intended purpose.

1.3.3 Owner’s/Managing Operator’s Obligations
The owner/managing operator undertakes to restri t permission to work with the POLARIS
to people who:
are familiar with the basi regulations on safety and a ident prevention and have
been instru ted in the use of the POLARIS;
have read and understood the do umentation, the hapter on safety and the
warnings.
The owner/managing operator must he k that the safety regulations and a ident
prevention rules valid for the respe tive appli ation are being observed

1.4.1 General Safety Instructions
Take the devi e out of the hazardous area before wiping it with a dry loth or leaning
it!
Do not open devi es in a hazardous area.
The general statutory regulations or dire tives relating to safety at work, a ident
prevention and environmental prote tion legislation must be observed, e.g. the
German industrial health and safety ordinan e (BetrSi hV) or the appli able national
ordinan es.
In view of the risk of dangerous ele trostati harging, wear appropriate lothing and
footwear.
Avoid the influen e of heat that is higher or lower than the spe ified temperature range.
Prote t the devi e from external influen es! Do not expose the devi e to any
austi /aggressive liquids, vapours or mist! In the event of malfun tioning or damage
to the en losure, take the devi e out of the potentially explosive area immediately and
bring it to a safe pla e.
1.5 Safety Instructions for Operation
1.5.1 Upkeep
For ele tri al systems the relevant installation and operating regulations must be omplied
with (e.g. Dire tive 2014/34/EU and the national appli able ordinan es EN 60079-14 and
the DIN VDE 0100 series)!
The disposal of this equipment must omply with the national regulations on the disposal of
waste.
1.5.2 Maintenance
Regular servi ing is not ne essary if the equipment is operated orre tly in a ordan e with
the installation instru tions and environmental onditions. In this ontext, please refer to
Chapter "Maintenan e, Inspe tion, Repair".

1.5.3 Inspection
Under IEC 60079-19 and EN 60079-17, the owner/managing operator of ele tri al
installations in hazardous areas is obliged to have these installations he ked by a qualified
ele tri ian to ensure that they are in a proper ondition.

Under EN/IEC 60079-17 and EN/IEC 60079-19, the owner/managing operator of ele tri al
installations in hazardous areas is obliged to have these installations he ked by a qualified

1.5.5 Commissioning
Before ommissioning, he k that all omponents and do uments are there.
1.6 Ex Protection Type, Certification and Standards
Markings spe ifying Ex prote tion and ertifi ation are put on the devi e. For Ex prote tion
markings, see hapter 4 "Te hni al Data ".
The POLARIS II Panel PCs onform to Dire tive 2014/34/EU for devi es and prote tive
systems for use to their intended purpose in potentially explosive areas (ATEX Dire tive).

1. Warranty
WARNING
If components other than those specified are used, protection against explosion
can no longer be assured.
Do not take any modifi ations or onversions on devi e.
Use only original spare parts parts.
The manufa turer grants a omplete guarantee only and ex lusively for the spare parts
ordered from him, the manufa turer.
As a fundamental rule, our “General Conditions of Sale and Delivery” apply. These are
made available to the owner/managing operator at the latest on formation of a ontra t.
Guarantee and liability laims for personal injury and damage to property are ex luded if
they are due to one or more of the following reasons:
Use of the POLARIS for a purpose other than that for whi h it is intended.

Non- omplian e with the instru tions in the manual with respe t to transport,

We guarantee the POLARIS and its a essories for a period of 1 year starting from the
BARTEC delivery date. This guarantee overs all parts of the delivery and is restri ted to
the repla ement free of harge or the repair of the defe tive parts in our Bad Mergentheim
fa tory. As far as possible, the delivery pa kaging should be kept for this purpose. In the
event of su h a laim, the produ t must be returned to us after written arrangement. The
ustomer annot laim to have the repairs done at the site of installation

2.1
Definition
The POLARIS Remote KVM Analog devi e from BARTEC is a display, optionally with
keyboard, mouse and tou h s reen whi h an operate a server or PC in the safe era in
hazardous areas Zones 21 and Zone 2 and Zone 22.

The POLARIS Remote KVM Analog series is optimised for signals su h as VGA /USB. A

You will need help from others when transporting it.

6. Installation
We re ommend setting up the omplete system under laboratory onditions and testing
it before it is permanently installed. If a long onne tion able is not available, please use
a pat h able to test the basi fun tions.
DANGER

Make sure there are no highly energeti harging me hanisms at the user interfa e
on the display unit or its a essories.
Do not install the devi e in the stream of parti les.

The POLARIS must be integrated in the equipotential bonding.
6.1 Requirements
The surfa e underneath and the fastening means for the supporting system must be
designed to support the weight of the POLARIS (approx. 17 kg).
Choose the optimum height for operating the POLARIS.
Ensure good lighting onditions for a perfe tly legible display (no dire t exposure to
the sun’s rays).
Do not mount in dire t proximity to swit hing or urrent hanging devi es.
Do not install the devi e in the stream of parti les.
The POLARIS must be integrated in the equipotential bonding.
At ambient temperatures below 0 °C, the POLARIS has to be heated (Heating on
request).
The supply and data line(s) are laid in the supporting system.
The supporting system is fastened by means of the flange plate (see the following
illustrations).
