5.2 Operation
Preparation of the appliance
Before the first use of the appliance make sure that no packing materials or other
objects are in the toast slots.
Clean the appliance in accordance with the instructions in Section 6 „Cleaning“.
During the first use a light smoke resulting from the production residues can occur.
This is not a defect. Use the device during the first switching on without the toast
bread and set the middle level of browning. Make sure that there is sufficient
ventilation in the place of installation of the appliance.
Crumb tray
CAUTION!
In order avoid damage or contamination of the device, always put into
operation with the inserted crumb tray.
The extendable crumb tray of the toaster is
located under the appliance. The toaster

Empty the crumb tray regularly. To this aim
pull it from the device and remove the
crumbs. Wipe the crumb tray with a soft moist
cloth and dry it thoroughly.
Make sure that the crumb tray is inserted
completely in the opening provided for it
Important tips for optimal toast result
The toast result depends in case of the same setting of the browning level on the
different characteristics of bread (moisture content, type of bread, the size and
thickness of the slices).
Set a lower browning level for dry bread, smaller and thinner slices, in case of
toasting of only one slice of bread.
Toasting of thick slices of bread requires more time for toasting, set a higher level
of browning or conduct 2 toasting operations.
The cut surface of the bread should be as smooth as possible in order to achieve
a uniform toast result. Remove loose crumbs or protruding bread components
(e.g. grains or raisins) before toasting because they can burn.

- 36 -
Bread with an irregular surface requires a higher level of browning.
Halve the bagels before toasting.
In order to achieve better toasting results, toast only one type of bread at the same
time in the respective pair of toast slots.
Take into account that during several operations one after another the toaster
becomes hot and the toast slices become darker accordingly.
Select possibly a lower degree of browning between the toast processes.
The level of browning can be changed according to the desire during the toasting
process through turning the browning regulator.
Toasting
1. Insert respectively only one slice of bread into
the toast slots.
2. Insert the power plug into the socket.
Note: The 4-slice toaster has separate operating
elements for each 2 toast slots. The following
operating steps apply to both Toast slot pairs.
3. Set by turning the browning regulator the desired
level of browning in the range of 1 - 6.
NOTE!
Turn the browning regulator clockwise for a darker browning
a brighter, counter clockwise for a brighter browning.
In case of the models for 4 toast slices 2 toast slots can be used each time for
simultaneous toasting of various types of bread. Set both browning regulators
accordingly.
Allow the device about 20 seconds to cool down after each toasting cycle,
before you insert further toast breads.
4. Press the operating lever down until it clicks. The toasting process begins. During the
toasting process it lights the control lamp of the button „Cancel“ .
