Installing Batteries
• Press down the retaining catch on the cover of the battery recess at the back of the
remote control. Then slide the cover downward and remove it.
• Insert two AAA batteries into the recess, following the polarity markings inside the
compartment.
• To reinstall the cover over the battery recess, gently push down the cover and slide
it upward until it snaps securely into place.
Using the Remote Control
To use the remote control, point it towards the front of the HDD PVR. The remote
control has a range of up to 7 metres from the HDD PVR at an angle of up to 60
degrees (30 degrees for the left hand side and 30 degrees for the right hand side).
The remote control will not operate if its path is blocked.
NOTE:
• If the receiver does not work when using the remote control from a close range,
you will need to replace the batteries.
• Sunlight or very bright light will decrease the sensitivity of the remote control.
• Old batteries will decrease the sensitivity of the remote control.
Precautions when Using Batteries
• Keep batteries out of children’s reach.
• Do not attempt to recharge, short-circuit, disassemble, or throw batteries into a fire.
• Always replace both batteries at the same time. Never mix new and old batteries
or batteries of a different type.
• If you do not intend on using the remote control for an extended period, remove the
batteries to prevent possible leakage and corrosion.
• Do not drop, apply shock or step on the remote control.
• Do not spill water on the remote control.

Warranty Details
The product is guaranteed to be free from defects in workmanship and parts for
a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. Defects that occur within this
warranty period, under normal use and care, will be repaired, replaced or refunded
at our discretion, solely at our option with no charge for parts and labour. The
benefits conferred by this warranty are in addition to all rights and remedies
in respect of the product that the consumer has under the Competition and
Consumer Act 2010 and similar state and territory laws.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian
Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure
and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to
be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

General Safety Instructions
Read this manual thoroughly before first use and keep it in a safe place for future
reference, along with the warranty card, purchase receipt and carton. The safety
precautions enclosed herein reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury when
correctly adhered to. Follow all instructions and take notice of all warnings to
reduce the risk of re or electric shock.
Important Warnings and Cautions!
• To prevent contact with high voltage components
inside, do not attempt to open the cover or the back of
this product. There are no user-serviceable parts inside
this product.
• Do not repair the unit yourself. Only have it serviced by
qualified personnel.
• Do not expose this product to water, rain, moisture or
dust. Do not use it anywhere near water or where water
splashes or drips; do not touch the power plug with
wet hands.
Electrical Safety and Cord Handling
• Before installing this appliance, make sure your outlet voltage corresponds to the
voltage stated on the appliance rating label.
• Only use this appliance with the cord and plug supplied, and do not overload the
power outlet.
• When the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or
similarly qualified personnel in order to avoid a hazard. Contact our after sales
support line in order to avoid a hazard.
• Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch any hot
surface. Do not allow anything to rest on or roll over the power cord, and run any
cords so that no one steps on or trips over them. Do not run the cord near heat-
producing appliances such as radiators, stoves or irons. The excessive heat could
melt the insulation and expose live wires.
• Unplug the unit from the power outlet after use to avoid possible damage during
electrical storms, or when the equipment will be unattended or unused for a long
period of time.
• Always grasp the plug, not the cord, when disconnecting the unit. Pulling the cord
can damage the internal wires and may cause a fire.
• This appliance can only be disconnected from the power supply by unplugging it
from the mains socket. Make sure the mains socket is readily accessible.

Installation
• The product must be installed in accordance with local laws.
• Place the product on a straight, rigid and stable place. Do not place it on carpet. Do
not place it on top of another appliance that may cause overheating (for example, a
receiver or amplifier).
• When installing the unit, make sure to place it:
• Away from heat sources, radiators or other products that produce heat.
• Away from areas with high temperatures, high humidity or direct sunlight.
• Away from excess dirt and dust.
• Away from any items that may damage it, such as naked flame sources (lit
candles) or objects containing water.
• Away from open windows and any place where water may get into the unit and
damage it.
• Place the product in a sufficiently aerated place. Allow at least 10cm spacing at the
back and top of the product, and 5cm on both sides, to prevent overheating.
Usage Conditions and Restrictions
• Follow the instructions in this manual when installing and adjusting this appliance.
Only adjust those controls that are covered in this instruction manual, as improper
adjustment of other controls may result in damage. If this happens, unplug the
appliance and have it serviced by appropriately qualified personnel.
• Supervise young children to ensure they do not play with the product. Close
supervision is always necessary when an appliance is used by or near children.
• Do not place anything underneath the product (for example, CDs or magazines).
• Take care not to block any ventilating openings with items such as newspapers,
tablecloths or curtains.
• Dispose of spent or damaged batteries in accordance with local regulations.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge,
unless they have been given supervision or instructions concerning use of the
appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
• Improper installation or use can result in electrical shock and/or material damage.

1 ANT IN: Connect the antenna to this socket.
2 ANT OUT: RF signal output to other reception equipment, such as TV. In addition,
please use the loop cable to connect IN2 to OUT1 terminals.
3 OPTICAL S/PDIF OUTPUT: Connect to an external audio amplifier.
4 HDMI OUTPUT: Connect to your TV with an HDMI cable for high definition output.
5 YPbPr: Output YPbPr video signal to your TV (supports high definition output).
6 COMPOSITE VIDEO OUTPUT: Connect to your standard definition TV.
7 AUDIO (L/R) OUTPUTS: Left/right audio signal outputs to connect a TV or an
amplifier.

1 Standby: Press to switch between operation and standby modes.
2 Menu: Press to display the main menu or to exit from the menu.
3 VOL-/VOL+: Press to adjust the volume level in operational mode.
4 CH-/CH+: Press to move the cursor down/up when in the menu, or to change the
current program to the next/previous channel in operational mode.
5 OK: Press to select an item in the menu, or to activate the channel list in
operational mode.
6 Front Panel Display: Displays the current channel number and operational status
(On = red, Standby = orange).
7 USB Port: Connect for media playback, or for copying files between internal and
external drives. (The USB Port is also used for software updates, if advised by
service personnel.)

WARNING:
For your personal safety and to prevent possible damage to the equipment,
always ensure the unit is disconnected from the power supply
before connecting or disconnecting cables.
Connecting Equipment
• Connect your TV antenna cable to the ANT IN1 jack on the back of the PVR using
the coaxial RF cable.
• Make sure the loop cable is connected correctly to activate the second tuner (see
the diagram below).
• There are three methods of connecting the PVR to a television: using the YPbPr,
HDMI or Composite Video outputs. For High Definition viewing, your TV must
support either 720p or 1080i resolution and the connection between the unit and
TV must be either YPbPr or HDMI. Connection to the Composite Video outputs will
provide Standard Definition viewing.
HDMI Connection
High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) provides both high quality digital video
and audio connection in one cable.
• Connect an HDMI cable (not included) from the HDMI output on the rear panel
of the PVR to the corresponding HDMI input of your HD TV or amplifier using the
HDMI cable for both video and audio connections.
NOTE: A HDMI cable is NOT supplied with this product.

YPbPr Connection
• Connect the YPbPr output connectors (three RCA connectors - green, red and
blue) from the rear panel of the PVR to the COMPONENT input of your TV,
matching colour for colour.
• Connect the AUDIO L/R output connectors (two RCA connectors – red and white)
from the rear panel of the PVR to the corresponding AUDIO input of your TV.
NOTE: A Component cable is NOT supplied with this product. You may use the
supplied AV leads to make the audio connection.

Composite Video Connection
For standard definition viewing, use the supplied AV leads (red, white and yellow) for
connection to your TV.
• Connect the yellow video lead from the yellow VIDEO output on the rear panel of
the PVR to the yellow VIDEO input on your TV to establish a video connection.
• Connect the AUDIO L/R (red and white lead) from the connectors on the rear of
the PVR to the red and white AV inputs of the TV to establish an audio connection.
NOTE: Please ensure that your TV is set to the correct input channel depending on
your connection type. For instance, if Red, White and Yellow is connected to
AV1 on the television, ensure you are on the AV1 source on the television.
Amplier Connection
• Connect the optical audio cable (NOT supplied) from the OPTICAL output on the
rear panel of the PVR to the corresponding OPTICAL input of the amplifier.

Getting Started
First Time Installation
• After all the connections have been made, make sure the HDD PVR is connected
to the mains electricity supply. Then switch on the TV, the first time installation
message will appear on the screen. Make sure the bandwidth is set to 7MHz and
press OK to begin automatic channel search.
• When scanning is complete, all active digital channels found will be stored
automatically in the channel list. The system will search for and store digital TV
and digital radio channels in separate lists. To view the lists, use the TV/RADIO
button on the remote control to select either TV or Radio, then press OK to
display the list of available digital channels.
• To stop scanning at any stage, press the EXIT button on the remote control, all
channels scanned up to that point will be stored.
• Now you are ready to watch digital TV.

Channel Selection
There are four methods for changing channels:
• Press the NUMERIC (0~9) buttons on the remote control to select the channel
number you wish to view.
• Use the CH-/CH+ buttons on the remote control or the front panel to navigate
through all the available digital channels.
• Press OK on the remote control or front panel to display the channel list on
screen, then use the / buttons to navigate through the list and press OK to
display the highlighted channel.
• Press the button to view the previous channel selected.
Volume Control
• Press the VOL-/VOL+ buttons to adjust the volume.
Mute
• Press the MUTE button to temporarily stop the sound. To cancel mute, press the
MUTE button again, or press the VOL+ button.
Picture Freeze
• Press the FREEZE button to freeze current program. This function freezes the
picture at that point in time only, it is NOT time-shift. If you want to initiate time-
shift, make sure that the time-shift function is active in the PVR settings submenu,
then press PAUSE on the remote control.
• To cancel freeze status and continue watching TV, press the FREEZE button
again and the program will commence at the current time.
Screen Aspect Ratio
• Press the ASPECT button to switch the screen aspect mode.
TV/Radio Mode
• Press the TV/RADIO button to toggle between TV and Radio mode.
Program Info
• Press the INFO button to display basic information for the currently screening
(NOW) and upcoming (NEXT) programs on that channel.
• Press the INFO button a second time to display detailed information for the NOW
program. Press the INFO button again to display detailed information for the
NEXT program.
• Press the INFO or EXIT button to exit from the extended information environment.

EPG (Electric Program Guide)
Your PVR provides you with an Electronic Program Guide for up to 7 days of programs
in advance (where available from the broadcaster), which will allow you to view on a
channel by channel basis and tag programs to be recorded to the hard drive.
• Press the EPG button to activate the EPG. Use the / buttons to scroll up
and down to each channel. Program information will be displayed in the right
hand screen panel. Use the / buttons to change dates in the EPG.
• Use the BLUE button to enter into the right hand screen panel where the
programs are listed. Use the / buttons to move up and down through the
programs for that channel for that day.
• Press the YELLOW button to view detailed information for any highlighted event.
Press the EXIT button to exit from the detailed information menu.
• Press the RED button to tag the highlighted program for recording. A dialogue
box will be displayed providing options: ONCE, DAILY, WEEKLY. Select one option
and press OK, a symbol will appear next to the program name. The event has
been added to the Book Manager.
• Press the GREEN button to access the Book Manager, which shows a list of
programs scheduled for recording. Press the EXIT button to exit from the Book
Manager.
• Press the BLUE button to return to the Channel List. Press the EXIT button to exit
from the Channel List.

Subtitles
• Press the SUBT button to switch subtitles on/off, if included in the program.
Teletext
Teletext or Austext is no longer available, nor is there any plan for a replacement
teletext service in Australia. For more information, please visit the websites of the
Australian channel providers. However, one teletext option, “closed captions”, is still
working on most Australian television channels. This service allows you to activate
subtitles while watching normal television programs that provide it.
• Press the TEXT button to open a teletext page (if transmitted).

TV/Radio and Favourites List
• Press OK to activate the Channels List. It will display on the left side of the screen.
• Use the / buttons to navigate through the Channel List. The program title
currently playing (NOW) will be displayed along with a REC prompt, should you wish
to record the program. To view the highlighted channel, press the OK button.
• Use the / buttons to navigate between NOW and NEXT for the highlighted
channel in the Channel List. Use the REC feature to book a recording for the NEXT
program, should you wish.
• To switch between TV and radio lists, press the TV/RADIO button.
To select a favourites list, press the FAV button.
• To view channels, use the / buttons.
Time-shift
• Press the PAUSE button on the remote control to enter time-shift mode.
• Press the PAUSE button again to commence replaying from where you activated
time-shift.
Transferring (Copying) Recorded Files
This PVR allows you to transfer recorded files to and from the HDD via USB on the
front panel of the unit.
• Press the INDEX button on the remote control (or go to FILE LIST in the PVR &
BOOKING submenu of the main menu) to display the file contents of the HDD.
• If you have connected a USB drive to the USB port at the front of the PVR, two
options will be available:
• HDD – this is the internal hard drive.
• udisk – this is the external device connected to the USB port at the front of the
unit.

Copying files from the HDD to USB allows you to store recorded programs on an
external drive for playback at a later time, leaving your HDD space free for new
recordings.
• To select the drive, use the / buttons to highlight your selection and press
OK. The contents of the selected drive will be displayed.
• Use the / buttons to highlight the recorded file you want to copy and press
the GREEN button on the remote control.
• A dialogue box will be displayed asking you to confirm the destination drive for
the file to be copied. If copying from the HDD, the destination drive will be udisk,
press OK to continue.
• Copying of the file will commence and the system will return you to live TV. A
small Copying icon will be displayed on right side of the screen. When copying is
complete, a dialogue box will be displayed informing you that the process is now
complete.
• While the file is copying, the system will still allow you to watch any channel on
live TV and record programs. You can even watch a previously recorded file in
playback.
Setting a Recording
There are five different ways to set up or start a recording: via one-touch recording,
timer recording, EPG recording, time-shift or channel list.
One-Touch Recording
• One-touch recording is simply activated by pressing the RECORD button on the
remote control. Recording will commence immediately.
• One-touch recordings will record for the duration set in REC Time in the
Recording Options submenu of PVR & BOOKING, which can be found in the main
menu.
Timer Recording
• Timer recordings can be set for any time in the future and can be accessed using
the TIMER button on the remote control, or by selecting Book Manager from the
PVR & BOOKING menu in the main menu. In this environment you can set and
manage numerous timer events.
• Press the RED button to add a timer event and follow the on-screen prompts.
EPG Recording
• Set a recording event using the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) by pressing the
EPG button on the remote control.
• Select the program list by pressing the BLUE button, highlight the program you
want to record and then press the RED button to activate the recording frequency
dialogue box. Make your selection, then press OK. The recording symbol will
appear next to the program to be recorded.

Time-Shift
• The time-shift feature is used to pause live TV. To activate time-shift mode, press
the PAUSE button on the remote control.
• When you are ready to resume watching the paused program, press the PAUSE
button again.
• Fast Forward, Skip and Rewind functions are available while playing back the file
created in time-shift mode. The file will not be saved.
Channel List
• Press OK at any time to display the channel list.
• Use the / buttons to highlight a channel and press the RECORD button to
commence recording the program playing on the highlighted channel.
• To record the NEXT program on the highlighted channel, use the button to
display the program title and then press the RECORD button.
Playback Operation
This PVR will allow you to play back TV programs recorded on this PVR, and files in
MP3 and JPEG-format from an external storage device connected to the USB port at
the front of this unit.
• Press the INDEX button on the remote control (or go to FILE LIST in the PVR &
BOOKING submenu of the main menu) to display the file contents of the HDD.
• If you have connected a USB drive to the USB port on the front of the PVR, two
options will be available:
• HDD – this is the internal hard drive
• udisk – this is the external device connected to the USB port at the front of the
unit.
• Use the / buttons to highlight the drive and press OK, the contents of the
selected drive will be displayed.
• Use the / buttons to highlight the recorded file you want to copy and press
OK on the remote control to commence playing the file. (See page 12 for more
information.)

Navigating the Main Menu
• Press the MENU button to bring up the main menu or return to the previous
item.
• Press the / buttons to move left/right.
• Press the OK button to activate the highlighted menu item.
• Press the EXIT button to exit the main menu.
The main menu is divided into four sections. Please refer to the menu tree on the
opposite page.
