Amixingconsolefulfils threemainfunctions:
Signal processing: Preamplification, leveladjustment, mixingofeffects,
frequencyequalization.
Signaldistribution: Summingofsignalstothe aux sendsfor effects
processingand monitor mix, distribution toone or several recordingtracks,
poweramp(s), controlroomand 2-trackoutputs.
Mix: Settingthe volume level, frequencydistribution and positioningofthe
individualsignalsinthe stereofield, levelcontrolofthe totalmixto match
the recordingdevices/crossover/poweramplifier(s). All other mixerfunctions
can beincluded inthis mainfunction.
The interfaceof BEHRINGER mixingconsolesisoptimizedfor these tasks enabling
you toeasily keeptrack ofthesignal path.

Be surethatthereisenough space aroundthe unitforcooling purposesandto

devicessuch as radiatorsor poweramps. The consoleis connectedto the
mainsvia thesuppliedcable. The consolemeetsthe requiredsafetystandards.
Blownfuses mustonly be replacedby fuses ofthesametype and rating.

connectedtothemains! First connectthe powersupplyunittothe
console, thenconnectthepowersupply unittothemains.

Usethe GAlN controltoadjustthe inputgain.This controlshould always be

2.1.2 Equalizer
All monoinputchannelsincludea3-band equalizer,
exceptfor the 502, whichis equippedwitha2-band
EQ. All bands provideboostor cut of upto 15 dB.
Inthe central position, theequalizer is inactive.
The circuitryofthe BritishEQs
is basedonthe
technology usedinthe best-knowntop-of-the-line
consolesandprovidingawarmsoundwithout any
unwantedside effects.The resultare extremely
musicalequalizerswhich, unlikesimpleequalizers,
causenoside effectssuch as phaseshifting or
bandwidthlimitation, even withextremegain

The PAN controldeterminesthe positionofthe channelsignalwithin thestereo
image.This controlfeaturesaconstant-powercharacteristic, which meansthe
signalis alwaysmaintainedat aconstantlevel, irrespectiveof positionin the
stereopanorama.

unwanteddiscrepancybetween the leftand

FX SEND
'The FX SEND output(does notapplyfor 502) should be connected tothe input
ofan external effects unit. The post-fader FX signal you created usingthe
inputchannel FX controls is sent tothe effectsunitvia the FX SEND ouput.
Usethe FX SEND control ofthe mainsection toadjustthe overall send level
(1002and 1202only).
2.3.2 Monitor andmainmix
PHONESICONTROLROOM
The stereo PHONESjack (atthetop oftheconnector panel) iswhere you connect

controlsto increasethe inputamplificationuntilsignal peaksshow 0 dB onthe
levelmeter.
When recordingto digitalrecorders, the recorder's peak meter should notgo into
overload. While analogrecorderscan beoverloadedtosome extent, creatingonly
acertainamountofdistortion (which
is commonandoften desirable),
digital recordersdistort quickly whenoverloaded.Inaddition, digital distortion is
notonly undesirable,butalso rendersyour recordingcompletely useless.

3. Installation
3.1 Mainsconnection
ACPOWER IN
Connectthe powersupplytothe 3-pin mainsconnectoronthe rear ofthe
console. Use the AC adaptersuppliedto connect the consoleto the mains.
The adaptercomplies withallapplicablesafetystandards.
0 Pleaseuseonlythepowersupplyunitprovidedwiththe console.
0 NeverconnecttheXENYX tothe powersupplyunitwhilethelatteris
connectedtothemains! Firstconnecttheconsoletothepowersupply

3.2 Audio connections
You will needalargenumberofcablesfordifferentapplications.
The illustrationsbelow show howthe connectorsshouldbe wired. Be sureto
useonly high-gradecables.
PleaseusecommercialRCA cablestoconnectthe 2-track inputsand outputs.
You can, ofcourse, alsoconnect unbalanceddevicestothe balanced inputs1
outputs. To dothis, use eithermono plugs or stereoplugswiththe ringand
sleevebridged(pins
1 and3inthe case ofXLR connectors).
