INTRODUCTION
The SOLARLINK module allows you to recharge or maintain charge on RESERVOIR or
JUNCTION modules using standard solar panels.

SAFETY
DANGER OF ELECTRIC SHOCK

DO NOT place the equipment near heat sources. It is prohibited to place or operate the
equipment in an environment with flammable, explosive gas, or smoke.
DO NOT attempt to replace the internal battery or any other component of the
equipment by anyone other than authorised personnel. There are no end-user serviceable
components.
DO NOT operate in wet conditions. If the equipment becomes wet, please let the unit dry
completely before using.
ENSURE proper ventilation while in use and do not obstruct fan openings. Inadequate
ventilation may cause permanent damage to the equipment.
DO NOT move the unit while operating.
KEEP AWAY from children and pets.
DO NOT insert foreign objects into any ports or openings of the equipment.
If necessary, only dry powder fire extinguishers are suitable for the product.
USE ONLY the original cables designed for the equipment. Belair Technology SA are not
liable for damage caused by third party equipment that may render your warranty invalid.

Earthing
The chassis of the SOLARLINK is electrically bonded to other chassis in a belair TOWER
when the power cable is connected. It is permitted to connect any exposed metal of the

solar panel frame to the chassis of the belair system. Neither the positive or negative pole
of the solar panel should be connected to the chassis.
It is recommended to follow local electrical regulations - please consult a local electrician if
unsure.

It is recommended to install all belair equipment in suitable 19-inch enclosures.

USING THE EQUIPMENT
Suitable solar panels
Standard solar panels are either nominally 12V or 24V. Since the belair system is nominally
48V, either 4 x 12V panels or 2 x 24V panels must be connected in series to generate
sufficient voltage to charge the battery.
The maximum charge current of the SOLARLINK is 14A which corresponds to a power of
approximately 700W. It is permissible to use a solar array with a higher power than 700W,
however the SOLARLINK will limit the power to protect the system.
belair recommends monocrystalline panels for maximum efficiency, for example 4 x Victron
Energy SPM042152400 or 2 x Victron Energy SPM043602400.
belair recommends panels fitted with MC4 connectors. MC4 extension cables will be
needed to bring the solar panel connections to the SOLARLINK, the length depends on
your system and should be as small as possible (less than 10m). It is not recommended to
mix different panel types.

Connection sequence
Connect the SOLARLINK to a belair JUNCTION or RESERVOIR using the supplied 4-pin
cable with the JUNCTION or RESERVOIR off. If you are stacking RESERVOIRS onto a
JUNCTION, the SOLARLINK should be connected to the RESERVOIR furthest away from
the JUNCTION.
Connect the solar panels to the SOLARLINK.
Turn on the JUNCTION or RESERVOIR
Turn on the SOLARLINK
Disconnection sequence
Whilst the belair system and connectors are rated for connection under load, lifetime of the
connectors will be dramatically increased by only manipulating the connections without
load.
The solar panel connectors are industry-standard MC4 type for convenience, however these
connectors are not rated for disconnection under load!
It is therefore very important to follow the correct sequence when disconnecting your
SOLARLINK.
1. Press power button to turn off SOLARLINK
2. Disconnect solar panels
3. Disconnect cable between SOLARLINK and RESERVOIR or JUNCTION
