functionsandtechnicalspecificationsoftheLCDmonitor.Surelyyouwillhavearefreshing
experienceworkingwiththemonitor.
FEATURES
The T71W isa17-inchTFTLCD monitorthatisintelligent,microprocessor-basedand
ergonomicallydesigneddisplay,compatible withmostanalogRGB(Red,Green,Blue)
displaystandards,includingPS/V,PS/2,optionalforApple MacintoshCentris,Quadra,
andMacintoshIIfamilysignals.TheLCDmonitoriscapableofdisplayingcrispandvibrant
colorgraphicswithVGA,SVGA,XGA,SXGA(non-interlaced),WXGAandmostMacintosh
compatiblecolorvideocards.
Themonitorisabletoproperlyfunctionevenincaseofupgradevideocardsorsoftware
becauseofthewideauto-scanningcompatibilityrangewithoutrequiringtobuya
newmonitor.
Theinternalmicroprocessordigitallycontrolsauto-scanning.Forhorizontalscan
frequenciesbetween31KHz and83KHz,andvertical scanfrequenciesbetween56
Hzand76Hz.Ineachfrequencymode,themicroprocessor-basedcircuitryallowsthe
monitortofunctionattheprecision-ofafixedfrequency.
The resident memoryallowsforstoringfactorydefaultsettingsandalso additional

Toreducetheneedforadjustment fordifferent modes,themonitorhasdefaultsetting
modesthataremostcommonlyusedasgiveninthetable below.Foroptimum adjustment,
theuserissuggestedtoperformtheAutoSetupunderWindows Full Screen”pattern.If
themodeinusedoesnotmatchoneofthedefaults,theusercanstoretheirpreferred
modesintheusermodes.Themonitoriscapable ofstoringupto9usermodes.Theonly
conditiontostoreasausermodeisthenewdisplayinformationmusthave1KHzdifference

Togainthemostbenefitfrom yournewBenQcolorLCD flatscreenmonitor,you
shouldinstall thecustom BenQLCD MonitordriversoftwareasprovidedontheBenQ
LCDMonitorCD-ROM.
Thecircumstancesunderwhichyou connectandinstall yourBenQLCD Monitorwill
determinewhichprocess you needtofollowtosuccessfullyinstall theBenQLCD
Monitordriversoftware.ThesecircumstancesrelatetowhichversionofMicrosoft
Windowsyou areusing,andwhetheryou areconnectingthemonitorandinstallingthe
softwareontoanewcomputer(withoutexistingmonitordriversoftware),orwhether
you areupgradinganexistinginstallation(whichalreadyhasexistingmonitordriver
software)withanewermonitor.
Ineithercasehowever,theverynexttimeyou turnonyourcomputer(afterconnecting
themonitortoyourcomputer),Windowswill automaticallyrecognisethenew(or
different)hardware,andwill launchitsFoundNewHardwarewizard.
Followthewizardinstructionsuntilitasksyou toselectamonitormodel.Atthatpoint,
click theHaveDiskbutton,inserttheBenQLCD MonitorCD-ROMandselectthe
appropriatemonitormodel.Furtherdetailsandstep-by-stepinstructionsforbothan
automatic(new)orupgrade(existing)installationfollow.

Ifyou requireaUserNameandPasswordtologintoyourWindowscomputer,you must
be loggedonasanAdministratororasamemberoftheAdministratorsgroupinorder
toinstall themonitordriversoftware.Furthermore,ifyourcomputerisconnectedtoa
networkwhichhassecurityaccess requirements,networkpolicysettingsmayprevent
you frominstallingsoftwareonyourcomputer.

ThisinstructiondetailstheprocedureforselectingandinstallingtheBenQLCD
Monitordriversoftwareonanewcomputerwhichhasneverhadamonitordriver
installedbefore.Thisinstructionisonlysuitable foracomputerwhichhasneverbeen
usedbefore,andforwhichtheBenQLCD Monitoristhefirstevermonitortobe
connectedtoit.
Ifyou areaddingtheBenQLCD Monitortoanexistingcomputerthathasalreadyhad
anothermonitorconnectedtoit(andhasmonitordriversoftwareinstalled),you should
notbe followingtheseinstructions.You shouldinsteadbe followingtheinstructionsfor
Howtoupgradethemonitoronanexistingcomputer.
1. FollowtheinstructionsinHowtoassemble yourmonitorhardwareonpage5.
WhenWindows(2000 orlater)starts,itwill automaticallydetectthenewmonitor
andlaunchtheFoundNewHardwareWizard.Followthepromptsuntilitdisplays
theoptiontoInstall HardwareDevicedrivers.
2. InserttheBenQLCD MonitorCD-ROMintoaCD driveonthecomputer.
3. Check Searchforasuitable driverformydeviceoption,andclick Next.
4. Check theoptionforCD-ROMdrives(uncheck all others)andclick Next.
5. Looktoconfirm thatthewizardhasselectedthecorrectnameofyourmonitoras
“T71W”andclick Next.
6. Click Finish.
7. Restartthecomputer.

Howtoupgradethemonitor onanexistingcomputer
Thisinstructiondetailstheprocedureformanuallyupdatingtheexistingmonitordriver
softwareonyourMicrosoftWindowscomputer.Itiscurrentlytestedascompatible (and
recommendedonly)forWindows2000 andWindowsXPOperatingSystem (OS).
TheBenQLCD Monitordriverforyourmodel maywell functionperfectlywithother
versionsofWindows,however,asatthetimeofwriting,BenQhasdonenotestingof
thisdriveronotherversionsofWindowsandcannotguarantee itsoperationonthose
systems.
Installingmonitordriversoftwareinvolvesselectinganappropriateinformationfile
(.inf)ontheBenQLCD MonitorCD-ROMfortheparticularmodel monitoryou have
connected,andlettingWindowsinstall thecorrespondingdriverfilesfromtheCD.You
needonlysteeritintherightdirection.WindowshasanUpgradeDeviceDriverWizard
toautomatethetaskandguideyou throughthefile selectionandinstallationprocess.

1. OpenDisplayProperties.
ThequickestshortcuttoDisplayPropertiesisthroughtheWindowsdesktop.Right-
click thedesktopandselectPropertiesfrom thepopupmenu.
Alternatively,theWindowsmenutoDisplayPropertiesislocatedinControlPanel.
InWindowsXPversion,ControlPanel islocateddirectlyunderthemainStart
menuitem.
Themenuoptionsdisplayedwill dependuponwhichtypeofviewisselectedfor
yoursystem.
UndertheClassicview,click Start|ControlPanel |Display.
UndertheCategoryview,click Start|ControlPanel |AppearanceandThemes|
Changethescreenresolution.
TheDisplayPropertieswindowwill display.
2. Click theSettingstabandtheAdvancedbutton.
TheAdvancedDisplayPropertieswindowwill display.
3. Click theMonitortabandselectthe PlugandPlayMonitor”from thelist.
Ifthereisonlyonemonitorinthelist,itwill alreadybe selectedforyou.
4. ClickthePropertiesbutton.
TheMonitorPropertieswindowwill display.
IfthedriverproviderislistedasBenQ,andthemodel matchesthatofyournew
monitor,theproperdriversarealreadyinstalled,andyou needdonothingfurther.
Cancel outofthesepropertywindows.
However,ifBenQisnotlistedasthemanufacturer,orthecorrectmodel isnot
currentlyshown,you will needtocontinue withtheseinstructions.
5. Click theDrivertabandtheUpdateDriverbutton.
TheHardwareUpdateWizardwill display.Followthewizardinstructionsnoting
thestepsbelow:

ThedriveletterforyourCD drivemaydifferfrom theexample abovedepending
uponyoursystem ?itmaybe D”or E”or F”etc.
9. Select(single-click) thefile named BenQT71W”ontheCD,andclick theNext
button.
Thiswill copyandinstall theappropriatemonitordriverfilestoyourcomputer.
10.Click Finish.Thiswill closethewizardandreturnyou totheMonitorProperties
window,nowrenamedBenQT71WProperties.
11.Click Close,OK,andOK.Thiswill closetheDisplayPropertieswindows.You donot
needtorestartWindowsXP,astheBenQLCD monitordriverswill operateimme-

1. LoadtheBenQLCD MonitorCD-ROMwhichcamewithyourmonitor.Insertthe
CD-ROMintoaCD driveonthecomputeryou attachedthemonitorto.The
autorunUser’sGuidelanguageselectionpagewill displayinyourweb browser.
You canselectalanguageandviewtheonlineversionofthismanualfrom thenext
window.You couldthenprint itoutforreferenceifyou wishtoworkoff-line.When
you’reready,Cancel thebrowserasitisnotrequiredfortheWindowsUpgrade
DeviceDriverWizard.
2. LaunchtheWindowsUpgradeDeviceDriverWizardandclick Next.
3. Check theoption “Displayalistofknowndrivers...”andclick Next.
4. Click theHaveDiskbutton.
TheInstall FromDiskwindowwill display.
5. Click theBrowsebuttonandnavigatetotheBenQLCD MonitorCD-ROM.
ThisistheCD you loadedinstep1above.TheCD Drivewill haveaWindows
designateddriveletter(likeD:orE:orF:).Selectthedrivelettercorrespondingto
thedriveyou puttheCD into.
6. Double-click thefolderlabelled “Driver”.
Thecontentsofthe “Driver”folderwill display.
7. Click theOpenbutton.
Thiswill returnyou totheInstall from Diskwindow,anditwill haveenteredthe
address totheBenQLCD MonitorCD “Driver”folderintothefieldtitled
‘Copymanufacturer’sfilesfrom:’.
Thefieldwill containsomethinglike,“D:\Driver”,or “E:\Driver”,or
“F:\Driver”.
8. Click theOKbutton.
Thiswill returnyou totheUpgradeDeviceDriverWizard.
9. Select(single-click) thefile namedT71W,andclick theNextbutton.
10.Click Next.
Thiswill copytheappropriatemonitordriverfilestoyourcomputer.
11.Click Finish.
OnWindows2000,thiswill closethewizardandreturnyou totheMonitor
Propertieswindow,nowrenamed ‘BenQT71WProperties’.

The monitorwill be driveninto PowerSaving ”modebythecontrolsignal
fromthedisplaycontroller,asindicatedbytheamber-colorpowerLED.
Thepowersavingstateswillbekeptuntilacontrolsignalhasbeendetectedorthekeyboard
ormouseisactivated.TherecoverytimefromActiveOFFstatebacktoONstateisaround
3seconds.

Tomakeyourinstallationeasier,themonitorisable toPlugandPlaywithyoursystem if
yoursystemalsosupports DDC protocol.TheDDC (DisplayDataChannel) isa
