INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
MEGAMID AND BETAMID SHELTERS
Simple and elegant, our Megamid and Betamid shelters offer lightweight and
inexpensive cover for mountain travelers. While tarps have been around a long
time, the unique catenary cuts, careful choice of materials, zippered access and
reinforced tie-out points make Black Diamond ‘Mids a good choice for those
wanting the security and comfort of a tent… at the weight of a tarp.
We offer our tarps in two families—Mega and Beta, and in two classes—‘Mids
and Lights. Megamids have a single central support pole and Betamids use two
support or two trekking poles. The ‘Mids use a conventional 1.9 oz urethane-
coated polyester ripstop, for a solid waterproof shelter and the Lights utilize 1.1
oz silicone-coated nylon ripstop to make ultralight shelters that are extremely
packable—approximately 50% the packed size of regular versions.

The pyramid has been a favored
structural shape for more than five
thousand years. Our pyramid-shaped
Megamid uses a single pole in the
center and catenary-cut side seams to create a stable, wind-resistant canopy. A
storm-flapped zipper can be tied back in good weather, and a small vent at the
top encourages the exit of warm, moisture-laden air out the top. A sturdy, 365 g
(13 oz) folding, adjustable aluminum center pole offers the best performance
and sturdiest set-up for the Megamid. The Mega Light comes with a rugged
lightweight carbon fiber pole that weighs 320 g (11 oz). Trekking poles that
extend to 132 cm (52 in) can be combined with our PoleLink Converter to make
a usable, though somewhat less stable, center pole. Megamids can also be
set up by tying the center to an overhead branch using the webbing loop at
the apex.

The Megamids have a usable floor area of 2.2 square meters (86 square feet).
We define usable floor space as having 30 cm (12 in) of headroom to the
canopy. Luxurious for two, reasonable for three, tolerable for four, they also
make an excellent choice when traveling with a canine.
For protection from mud and dirt the Megamid Floor makes a nice option. Our
floor is designed with a 10 cm (4 in) “bathtub” edge that clips to the canopy
with button-and-loop fasteners. The Mega Bug has an enclosed floor and bug
netting to keep insects out and can be used alone or in combination with our
Mega Light or Megamid. The Megamid, Megamid Floor and Mega Bug come
with fully taped seams.

Let’s go lighter! By using your trekking
or ski poles as supports, the Betamids
provide maximum shelter for minimum
weight. With 3.2 square meters (34.7
sq ft) of usable floor space, the long 2.5 m (98 in) length of the Betamids
will be appreciated by the taller ones among us or provide space for canine
companions or gear. Betamids sleep two. Poles that extend to 132 cm (52 in)
are required for a taut set up.
Flexibility is the name of the game. For ultralight use, just carry the canopy. For
protection from mud and dirt, the Betamid Floor makes a nice option. Our floor
is designed with a 10 cm (4 in) “bathtub” edge that clips up to the canopy with
button-and-loop fasteners.
When bugs are your nemesis, the Beta Bug combines the floor with a full,
sealed canopy of lightweight no-see-um netting to separate you from the pests.
On clear nights, set it up by itself. The zippered door on one end allows easy
access.
Betas can also be set up without poles by rigging a high ridgeline and tying off
the apex loops using taut line hitches. Be sure to rig it so you can adjust the
length of the line and the direction of pull independently.
Extra tie-back loops are provided on the Betamids so that the door can be rolled
back an extra panel on each side. This requires use of either the Beta Bug or a
separate cord to keep the pole from falling over. The Betamid, Betamid Floor
and Beta Bug come with fully taped seams.

PACKING
The Megamid, Betamid, Mega Bug,
Beta Bug, and Floors are most easily
folded and rolled to a size that will fit
into the provided stuff sack. The Mega
Light and Beta Light are most easily
stuffed into the provided stuff sacks.
Start by feeding one end into the sack
and continue stuffing until the entire
shelter is in the sack.
EASY PITCHING
To pitch the ‘Mids, stake out the corners, open the zipper, insert the pole(s) and
extend until the canopy is taut. Adjust the outside stake locations to optimize
tightness.
When using the Floor, stake it out first, then pitch the canopy over it. When
using the Mega Bug or Beta Bug, set it up first with the poles, then throw the
Megamid or Betamid over it as a canopy.
All Black Diamond ‘Mids are reinforced to work with sharp trekking pole tips.
Make sure to carefully seat the tip into the grommet. Check to make SURE tip is
correctly seated after making any adjustments.
ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT
‘Mids are provided with 30 cm (12 in) cord loops on each stakeout point. The
“normal” set-up uses these cords and provides a good balance of ventilation
and storm-worthiness. ‘Mids can be pitched higher in mild weather (may
require some creativity with the pole), or lower (canopy edge at ground level)

in stormy or buggy conditions. If the wind is from one direction, it sometimes
works best to pitch the back of the shelter at ground level to windward, and the
door at the 30 cm (12 in) height to the lee.
SNOW CAMPING
Black Diamond ‘Mids excel at camping in the snow, especially in spring
conditions. Compact or dig out the area under the shelter for living space,
leaving the area under the canopy edge undisturbed. This will give you plenty of
headroom, and uses the natural snow as a short wall to block wind at ground
level.
NOT A TENT
Megamids and Betamids are not tents. They do not offer the security and
protection from storms that dedicated tents offer. They are not suitable for all
conditions, especially high winds. While the shelters themselves can be rigged
to withstand intense winds, the unsealed nature of their lower edge can allow
wind and storms to wreak havoc upon the occupants. In many conditions, a
ground cloth, bivouac sack or sleeping bag cover will greatly enhance one’s
experience.
Condensation will occur on the inside surface of the shelters. This can be
minimized by maintaining good ventilation. When sleeping three or four
persons in a Megamid, the people on the outside may need a bivy sac or
sleeping bag cover to protect their sleeping bags from touching the walls.
SEAM SEALING
Seams on the canopies of the Mega Light and Beta Light must be sealed
with liquid seam sealer (we recommend McNett SilNet) to attain maximum
waterproofness. Seal the seams from the inside (on the coated side of the
fabric) by using the edge of the tube to form a thin, continuous bead sealing
the three leak paths of the seam—two lines of stitching plus the joint between
two colors of fabric. Apply sealant to both sides where loops are sewn into the
seam.
Allow 24–48 hours for the sealant to COMPLETELY DRY before re-packing.
Complete and thorough application of seam sealant can take up to six days—
plan ahead. Check your sealing job by setting up the ‘Mid, spraying with a hose
and looking carefully for leaks.
MAINTAINING YOUR BLACK DIAMOND ‘MIDS
‘Mids should NOT be packed away wet. ANY moisture will lead to mildew that
can ruin both the urethane coating and the nylon fabric. Thoroughly dry before

packing away. In the event that mildew starts growing on your tarp, immediately
wash using McNett MiraZyme™. When long-distance hiking, consider adding a
two-ounce package of MiraZyme to your bounce box.
Because of the nature of the silicone-coated nylon ripstop fabric, mildew is not
a problem with the Beta Light and Mega Light.
Zippers require maintenance, especially when used in dirty or sandy
environments. Try to keep the zippers clean, occasionally wiping with a wet
cloth before packing up. Regular use of a zipper lubricant such as McNett Zip
Care™ will prolong the life of your tarp shelter.
FIRE WARNING
None of the ‘Mids are fireproof. The Megamid, Betamid, Floors, Mega Bug and
Beta Bug are made from chemically-treated materials that meet the CPAI-84
flammability requirements when new. The Mega Light and Beta Light are made
from silicone-coated nylon that is not flame retardant. All these materials will
burn and melt, and must be kept away from open flames. Never cook in your
‘MID.

WARRANTY
Limited Warranty: We warrant for one year from purchase date and only to the
original retail buyer (Buyer) that our products (Products) are free from defects
in material and workmanship. If Buyer discovers a covered defect, Buyer should
deliver the Product to us at the address provided. We will replace such Product
free of charge. That is the extent of our liability under this Warranty and, upon

en matière de structure. Nos Megamid pyramidales comportent un arceau
central unique et leur coupe et leurs coutures latérales en font des abris
stables et très résistants au vent. Par beau temps, le rabat-tempête équipé

d’une fermeture à glissière s’ouvre facilement, et un petit orifice situé au
plafond facilite l’évacuation de la chaleur et de l’air chargé d’humidité. L’arceau
central en aluminium, ajustable et pliable est très résistant et ne pèse que 365
grammes pour un rendement optimal et un montage plus solide du modèle
Megamid. Le modèle Mega Light est livré avec un arceau en fibre de carbone
léger et robuste de 320 g. Des bâtons de randonnée d’une longueur de 132 cm
peuvent être utilisés en combinaison avec notre adaptateur PoleLink de façon
à obtenir un arceau central parfaitement convenable, bien qu’un peu moins
stable. Vous pouvez également monter votre Megamid en attachant la partie
centrale à une branche située en hauteur grâce à une boucle de sangle placée
sur le toit de l’abri.
Nos Megamids offrent une surface utile au sol de 2,2 m_. Nous entendons par
surface utile la surface au sol plus 30 cm d’espace plafond. Ce véritable abri
de luxe pour deux personnes constitue un espace habitable tout à fait correct
pour trois grimpeurs et peut même accueillir quatre personnes. Enfin, c’est le
modèle idéal pour tous ceux qui voyagent avec leur compagnon canin.
Si vous dressez le camp dans des lieux où abondent boue et poussière, les
tapis de sol Megamid Floor sont une excellente solution. Ils sont munis
de bords remontants de 10 cm qui s’attachent à la toile par un système de
fermeture à boutons et boucles. Le Mega Bug est équipé d’une porte doublée
d’une moustiquaire et peut s’utiliser seul ou en combinaison avec les modèles
Mega Light ou Megamid. Les modèles Megamid, Megamid Floor et Mega Bug
sont livrés avec les coutures totalement étanchées.

Randonnez léger ! Si vous utilisez vos bâtons de ski ou de randonnée en guise
de support, les Betamids offrent un abri maximum à un poids minimum.
Avec une surface utile au sol de 3,2 m_, la longueur des Betamids (1,1 m)
enchantera tout particulièrement les alpinistes de grande taille. Sans oublier
qu’ils disposent de suffisamment d’espace pour accueillir votre matériel ou
votre compagnon canin. Dans cette gamme d’abris deux places, il convient
d’utiliser des bâtons de randonnée télescopiques de 132 cm de longueur pour
obtenir un montage tendu.
En alpinisme, la flexibilité est le mot d’ordre. Pour une utilisation ultralight,
n’emmenez que la toile. Si vous campez dans des contrées où abondent la
boue et la poussière, le tapis de sol Betamid Floor constitue une excellente
solution. Il est muni de bord remontants de 10 cm et qui s’attache à la toile par
un système de fermeture à boutons et boucles.
Si vous craignez avant tout les insectes, le modèle Beta Bug comprend un tapis
de sol combiné à une toile entièrement jointive revêtue d’une moustiquaire
ultra-légère qui tiendra les indésirables à distance. Si les nuits sont claires, ce
système est amplement suffisant. La porte latérale s’ouvre par une fermeture à
glissière, ce qui permet d’entrer et de sortir en toute commodité.
Les Betas permettent également un montage sans arceaux : il vous suffit de
former un toit en arête suffisamment haut puis de nouer les boucles de la partie
supérieure à l’aide de nœuds de serrage adaptés (ex. : un nœud de cabestan
avec une clé). Assurez-vous que le montage vous permet d’ajuster la longueur
de noeud et le sens de la traction indépendamment.
Vous trouverez également des boucles d’attache supplémentaires pour votre
Betamid, qui vous permettront d’enrouler la porte d’un côté ou de l’autre
comme s’il s’agissait d’un pan supplémentaire. Pour cela, soit vous avez un

Beta Bug, soit vous utilisez une corde de plus afin de maintenir l’arceau en
place. Les modèles Betamid, Betamid Floor et Beta Bug sont livrés avec les
coutures totalement étanchées.

PLIAGE
Nos Megamids, Betamids, Mega Bugs, Beta Bugs et tapis de sol Floors se
plient avec la plus grande facilité et s’enroulent jusqu’à atteindre une taille
suffisamment réduite pour pouvoir être rangés dans la housse de transport
fournie. Les Mega Lights et Beta Lights se rangent également sans aucune
difficulté dans leurs housses. Introduisez d’abord une extrémité, puis le reste
de l’article dans la housse.
FACILITÉ D’AMARRAGE
Nos ‘Mids se plantent très facilement : amarrez solidement les extrémités,
ouvrez la fermeture à glissière, puis insérez le ou les arceaux. Étendez ensuite
la toile jusqu’à ce qu’elle soit bien tendue. Ajustez l’amarrage extérieur afin
d’obtenir une tension optimale.
Si vous utilisez le tapis de sol Floor, amarrez-le en premier lieu, puis plantez
la toile par dessus. Si vous utilisez le Mega Bug ou le Beta Bug, montez-le

d’abord, ensuite les arceaux, et enfin placez le Mega Bug ou Betamid par-
dessus en guise de toile. Tous les ‘Mids de Black Diamond sont renforcés pour
faciliter le montage à l’aide de bâtons de randonnée munis de pointes. Assurez-
vous que chaque pointe de bâton est bien placée dans son œillet puis, une fois
les ajustements nécessaires effectués, vérifiez une nouvelle fois que toutes les
pointes rentrent bien dans les œillets correspondants.
HAUTEUR RÉGLABLE
Les ‘Mids sont équipés de boucles de corde de 30 cm à chaque point
d’amarrage. Vous les utiliserez si vous choisissez un montage “classique”,
qui sera gage d’une bonne ventilation et d’une protection adéquate contre
les orages. Les ‘Mids peuvent être montés plus en hauteur si le temps est
favorable (avec les bâtons de randonnée, cette solution demande toutefois
un peu d’esprit d’initiative et de créativité) ou plus près du sol (l’extrémité de
la toile se trouvera alors au niveau du sol) en cas de tempête ou d’invasion
d’insectes. Si le vent souffle dans une direction précise, il vaut parfois mieux
monter l’arrière de l’abri au ras du sol, face au vent, et la porte à 30 cm de
hauteur dans le sens du vent.
EN CAS DE NEIGE
Chez Black Diamond, la gamme ‘Mids est idéale pour les bivouacs dans la
neige, notamment lorsque les conditions sont clémentes. Il vous suffit de tasser
la neige ou de dégager un peu la zone sous l’abri afin d’avoir suffisamment
d’espace pour vous installer. En laissant intacte la zone située sous les bords
de la toile, vous aurez assez d’espace toit et vous pourrez former une sorte de
muret en neige qui bloquera le vent au niveau du sol.
CE NE SONT PAS DES TENTES
Les Megamids et Betamids ne sont pas des tentes proprement dites, car ces
modèles n’offrent ni la sécurité ni la protection contre les orages des véritables
tentes. Ils ne sont pas adaptés à toutes les situations, notamment en cas de
vents violents. Dans l’absolu, ils pourraient résister à ces vents, mais la partie
inférieure est trop instable et en cas d’orages, les conséquences seraient
dramatiques pour les occupants. Dans bien des cas, le recours à un tapis de
sol, à un sac de bivouac ou à un sursac amélioreront considérablement le
confort.
Les parois internes des abris sont très sujettes à la condensation, mais il est
possible de minimiser ce phénomène par une bonne ventilation. Si vous
dormez à trois ou à quatre personnes dans un Megamid, il vaudrait mieux que
les personnes les plus à l’extérieur aient recours à un sac de bivouac ou à un
sursac qui éviteront le contact avec les parois.

IMPERMÉABILISATION DES COUTURES
Les coutures des toiles et des sols des Mega Light et Beta Light doivent être
imperméabilisées avec de l’enduit liquide (nous vous conseillons par exemple
McNett SilNet) afin d’obtenir une étanchéité maximale. Imperméabilisez des
coutures de l’intérieur (sur le côté enduit de la toile) en déposant un fin filet
d’enduit sur toute la longueur des coutures. Imperméabilisez bien les trois
points les plus susceptibles de prendre l’eau : les deux lignes de couture ainsi
que la jointure entre deux coloris de toile. Aux endroits où les boucles sont
cousues dans la couture, appliquez l’imperméabilisant des deux côtés.
LAISSEZ COMPLÈTEMENT SÉCHER L’ENDUIT pendant 24 à 48 heures avant
de plier et de ranger votre tente. Une application complète et correcte de
l’enduit imperméabilisant peut prendre jusqu’à 6 jours. Soyez donc prévoyant.
Vérifiez soigneusement votre travail une fois celui-ci achevé : pour cela, montez
votre ‘Mid et faites un essai en l’arrosant au jet et cherchez les éventuelles
fuites.
ENTRETIEN DE VOTRE ‘MID BLACK DIAMOND
Ne stockez JAMAIS votre ‘Mid si elle est encore humide. L’humidité provoque
l’apparition de moisissures qui endommageront irrémédiablement le
revêtement d’uréthane et la toile nylon de l’abri. Laissez bien sécher votre tente
avant de la ranger. Au moindre signe de moisissure, lavez immédiatement votre
tente avec le nettoyant McNett MiraZyme™. Si vous effectuez un long raid en
montagne, pensez à glisser une petite fiole de MiraZyme dans votre sac.
La toile nylon ripstop est siliconée, ce qui fait que la moisissure ne sera jamais
un problème pour les Beta Lights et les Mega Lights.
Les fermetures à glissière exigent de l’entretien, en particulier si vous dressez le
camp dans des lieux où abondent la poussière et le sable. Essayer de maintenir
les fermetures à glissière propres. Vous pouvez éventuellement les essuyez
avec un linge humide avant de ranger votre tente. L’utilisation régulière d’un
lubrifiant spécialement adapté tel que McNett Zip Care™ prolongera la vie de
votre abri-bâche.
AVERTISSEMENT QUANT AUX RISQUES D’INCENDIE
Aucun des articles de la gamme ‘Mid ne résiste au feu. Achetés neufs, les
Megamids, Betamids, Floors, Mega Bugs et Beta Bugs sont fabriqués dans
des matériaux traités chimiquement qui remplissent toutes les exigences
CPAI-84 relatives à l’inflammation. Les Mega Lights et Beta Lights sont en
nylon siliconé, matière qui n’est pas ignifuge. Tous ces matériaux brûleront
et fondront rapidement. Ils doivent donc être tenus à l’écart de toute source
inflammable. Ne cuisinez jamais dans votre ‘MID.

MEGAMID- UND BETAMID-ZELTE
Die einfachen und eleganten Megamid- und Betamid-Zelte bieten einen
leichten und kostengünstigen Unterschlupf für unterwegs in den Bergen.
Obwohl Zeltplanen schon lange benutzt werden, machen der einmalige
Minimalflächenschnitt, die sorgfältige Auswahl der Materialien, der
Reissverschlusseingang und die verstärkten Abspannvorrichtungen zum
Abspannen der Zeltplane die Black Diamond Mids zur perfekten Lösung für
alle, die die Sicherheit und den Komfort eines Zeltes bevorzugen... mit dem
Gewicht einer Plane.
Unsere Zeltplanen sind in zwei Familien und zwei Unterklassen unterteilt
– Mega und Beta, Mids und Lights. Megamids werden mit einer zentralen
Zeltstange, Betamids mit zwei Zeltstangen oder zwei Trekkingstöcken
aufgestellt. Die Mids sind aus PU-beschichtetem Polyester-Ripstop (53 g)
gefertigt und bieten einen robusten, wasserfesten Unterschlupf. Für die
ultraleichten Lights mit ihrem aussergewöhnlich kleinen Packmass wird SI-
beschichtetes Nylon-Ripstop verwendet (31 g). Gepackt sind diese Zeltplanen
um etwa 50 % kleiner als herkömmliche Versionen.

Die Pyramide gehört schon seit über 5000 Jahren zu den beliebtesten
strukturellen Formen. Unser pyramidenförmiges Megamid wird mit nur einer
zentralen Zeltstange aufgestellt. Der besondere Minimalflächenschnitt der
seitlichen Nähte bildet eine stabile und windfeste Zeltplane. Der Eingang ist
mit einem durch eine Sturmklappe geschützten Reissverschluss versehen und
kann bei gutem Wetter zurückgebunden werden. Die kleine Lüftungsöffnung
am oberen Ende lässt warme und feuchte Luft aus der Zeltplane austreten. Mit
der robusten, zentralen Zeltstange (365 g) aus Aluminium kann das Megamid
am stabilsten aufgestellt werden. Die Zeltstange kann zusammengeklappt
und verstellt werden. Die leichte und solide Zeltstange des Mega Light ist aus

Kohlenstofffaser gefertigt und wiegt nur 320 g. Trekkingstöcke (ausfahrbar auf
132 cm) können mit unserem Pole Link Converter zu einer zentralen Zeltstange
umgewandelt werden, die zwar etwas weniger stabil ist, aber dennoch gut
eingesetzt werden kann. Eine weitere Möglichkeit zum Aufstellen des Megamid
bietet die Schlaufe aus Gurtband an der Spitze der Zeltplane, die an einem
überhängenden Ast befestigt werden kann.
Die nutzbare Bodenfläche der Megamids beträgt 2,2 m_.
Unsere Definition der nutzbaren Fläche berücksichtigt ca. 30 cm Freiraum
zwischen Kopf und Zeltplane. Es ist luxuriös für zwei, angemessen für drei
und akzeptabel für vier Personen und darüber hinaus auch hervorragend zum
Reisen mit einem Hund geeignet.
Der Megamid Floor ist ein ideales Zubehör zum Schutz gegen Schlamm
und Staub. Dieser Zeltboden ist mit einer 10 cm breiten „Bodenwanne“
ausgestattet und wird mit Druckknöpfen und Schnellverschluss-Schlaufen
an der Zeltplane befestigt. Das Mega Bug mit seinem geschlossenen Boden
und den Fliegennetzen bietet Schutz vor Ungeziefer und kann allein oder
zusammen mit dem Mega Light oder Megamid verwendet werden. Alle Nähte
am Megamid, Megamid Floor und Mega Bug sind getaped.

Noch leichter auf Tour! Wenn Sie ihre Trekking- oder Skistöcke als Zeltstangen
verwenden möchten, bieten die Betamids maximalen Schutz bei minimalem
Gewicht. Mit einer nutzbaren Fläche von 3,2 m_ und einer Länge von 1,10 m
sind die Betamids auch für grosse Personen geeignet und bieten ausreichend
Platz für Ausrüstung oder einen Hund. Betamids bieten zwei Personen
ausreichend Platz zum Schlafen. Es sind zwei Teleskopstöcke nötig (ausfahrbar
auf mindestens 132 cm), um die Zeltplane straff aufstellen zu können.
Für grösstmögliche Gewichtsersparnis tragen Sie nur die Zeltplane im
Gepäck. Zum Schutz gegen Schlamm und Staub ist der Megamid Floor ein
wichtiges Zubehör. Dieser Zeltboden ist mit einer 10 cm breiten „Bodenwanne“
ausgestattet und wird mit Druckknöpfen und Schnellverschluss-Schlaufen an
der Zeltplane befestigt.
Der Zeltboden kann mit dem Beta Bug kombiniert werden, einem
geschlossenen Innenzelt aus leichtem, durchsichtigen Fliegennetz, um Sie
vor lästigem Ungeziefer zu schützen. In klaren Nächten kann es auch ohne
Zeltplane verwendet werden. Durch den Reissverschlusseingang an einer Seite
ist es leicht zugänglich.
Betas können auch ohne Zeltstangen aufgestellt werden, indem Sie eine
Firstleine spannen und die Abspannschlaufen an den Zeltspitzen mit
Abspannleinen daran befestigen. Achten Sie darauf, dass Sie die Länge der
Firstleine und die Zugrichtung der Abspannleinen unabhängig voneinander
einstellen können.
Die Betamids verfügen über spezielle Abspannschlaufen, sodass der
Zelteingang auf jeder Seite eingerollt werden kann. Hierfür ist entweder das
Beta Bug oder eine separate Leine erforderlich, um zu verhindern, dass die
Zeltstange umfällt. Alle Nähte am Betamid, Betamid Floor und Beta Bug sind
getaped.

Das Megamid, Betamid, Mega Bug, Beta Bug und die Bodenplanen werden
einfach gefaltet und zusammengerollt, sodass sie in den Packsack passen.
Das Mega Light und Beta Light lassen sich am besten direkt in die Packsäcke
stopfen.
EINFACH AUFZUSTELLEN
Die Mids werden aufgestellt, indem Sie die Ecken fixieren, den Reissverschluss
öffnen und die Zeltstange(n) einfügen und ausfahren, bis die Zeltplane straff
gespannt ist. Versetzen Sie die Befestigung der Ecken gegebenenfalls, um das
Zelt noch besser zu straffen.
Wenn Sie die Bodenplane verwenden, befestigen Sie diese zuerst und stellen
Sie anschliessend die Zeltplane auf. Wenn Sie das Mega Bug oder Beta Bug
verwenden, stellen Sie es zunächst mit den Zeltstangen auf und legen Sie dann
das Megamid oder Betamid als Zeltplane darüber.
Alle Black Diamond Mids sind so verstärkt, dass Trekkingstöcke als Zeltstangen
verwendet werden können. Setzen Sie die Stockspitze vorsichtig in die dafür
vorgesehene und verstärkte Öffnung ein. Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Spitzen
auch nach dem Einstellen noch richtig sitzen.
EINSTELLBARE HÖHE
Mids sind an jedem Befestigungspunkt mit 30 cm langen Abspannleinen
ausgestattet. Beim Aufstellen unter „normalen“ Bedingungen werden diese

Leinen verwendet und es besteht ein gutes Verhältnis von Luftzirkulation
und Windfestigkeit. Mids können bei ruhigem Wetter höher (hierfür ist etwas
Kreativität mit der Zeltstange gefragt) und bei stürmischem Wetter tiefer (Kante
der Zeltplane auf Bodenhöhe) aufgestellt werden. Wenn der Wind aus einer
Richtung kommt, ist es u. U. sinnvoll, die Rückseite der Zeltplane gegen den
Wind auf Bodenhöhe und den Eingang der Zeltplane leicht erhöht (bis zu 30
cm) im Lee aufzustellen.
CAMPEN IM SCHNEE
Die Black Diamond Mids eignen sich ausgezeichnet zum Biwakieren im
Schnee, vor allem bei frühlingshaften Bedingungen. Komprimieren oder graben
Sie eine Fläche unter der Zeltplane als Nutzfläche aus, wobei der Bereich unter
der Planenkante unberührt bleibt. Auf diese Weise entsteht ausreichend Raum
über dem Kopf, und der Schnee an der Seite dient als natürliche Windblockade
auf Bodenhöhe.
KEIN ZELT
Megamids und Betamids sind keine „wirklichen“ Zelte. Sie bieten nicht die
Sicherheit und den Schutz vor starken Winden, die echte Zelte bieten. Sie sind
nicht für alle Bedingungen geeignet, vor allem nicht für stürmisches Wetter. Die
Zeltplanen können natürlich so aufgestellt werden, dass sie starken Winden
widerstehen. Da der untere Bereich jedoch nicht geschlossen ist, können die
Zeltbewohner einen Sturm als recht unangenehm empfinden. Häufig kann
eine Bodenplane, ein Biwaksack oder eine Schutzhülle für Schlafsäcke zur
ungestörten Nachtruhe beitragen.
An der Innenseite von Zeltplanen kann Feuchtigkeit kondensieren. Dieser
Umstand kann durch gute Luftzirkulation minimiert werden. Wenn drei oder
vier Personen in einem Megamid schlafen, sollten die Personen am Rand
einen Biwaksack oder eine Schutzhülle für Schlafsäcke verwenden, sodass die
Schlafsäcke nicht direkt an den Zeltwänden anliegen.
VERSIEGELN DER NÄHTE
Die Nähte an den Zeltplanen des Mega Light und Beta Light müssen von
Hand versiegelt werden (wir empfehlen den flüssigen McNett SilNet), um eine
maximale Wasserfestigkeit zu erreichen. Versiegeln Sie die Nähte von innen
(auf der beschichteten Seite des Materials). Verwenden Sie die Tubenkante, um
einen dünnen, fortlaufenden Streifen aufzutragen, der die drei durchlässigen
Bereiche der Naht versiegelt: zwei Nahtreihen und die Verbindung zwischen
zwei Stoffbahnen. Wenn in der Naht Schlaufen eingenäht sind, tragen Sie das
Mittel auf beiden Seiten auf.

Lassen Sie das Versiegelungsmittel 24 bis 48 Stunden VOLLSTÄNDIG
TROCKNEN, bevor Sie die Zeltplane einpacken. Die vollständige und
sorgfältige Versiegelung der Nähte kann bis zu sechs Tage dauern. Planen Sie
im voraus. Überprüfen Sie die Nähte, indem Sie das Mid aufstellen, mit einem
Gartenschlauch abspritzen und auf durchlässige Stellen überprüfen.
PFLEGE DER BLACK DIAMOND MIDS
Mids sollten NIEMALS nass eingepackt und aufbewahrt werden. JEGLICHE
Feuchtigkeit führt zu Schimmelbefall, der sowohl die PU-Beschichtung als auch
das Nylon-Gewebe zerstören kann. Packen Sie die Plane nur in vollständig
trockenem Zustand ein. Falls erste Anzeichen von Schimmel auf der Zeltplane
sichtbar werden, waschen Sie sie sofort mit McNett MiraZyme™. Beim
Wandern über längere Strecken packen Sie vorsichtshalber eine kleine Flasche
MiraZyme mit ein.
Aufgrund der Beschaffenheit von SI-beschichtetem Nylon-Ripstop ist Schimmel
bei Beta Light- und Mega Light-Zeltplanen kein Problem. Auch Reissverschlüsse
erfordern Instandhaltung, besonders in sandigen und schmutzigen
Umgebungen. Versuchen Sie, die Reissverschlüsse sauber zu halten, indem
Sie sie gelegentlich vor dem Packen mit einem feuchten Tuch abwischen. Die
regelmässige Verwendung eines Schmiermittels für Reissverschlüsse, wie z. B.
McNett Zip CareTM, verlängert die Lebensdauer Ihrer Zeltplane.
ACHTUNG VOR FEUER
Keines der Mids ist feuerfest. Das Megamid, Betamid, die Bodenplanen
das Mega Bug und das Beta Bug sind aus chemisch behandelten
Materialien hergestellt, die im neuen Zustand gemäss der CPAI-84-Norm
flammenhemmende Eigenschaften aufweisen. Das Mega Light und das Beta
Light sind aus SI-beschichtetem Nylon hergestellt, das nicht flammenhemmend
wirkt. All diese Materialien brennen und schmelzen und müssen offenem Feuer
ferngehalten werden. Kochen Sie niemals in Ihrem MID.
