PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The USCG 46 CFR 28.250 & 182.530 compliant BG-HW is an electronic high water sensor that uses patented technology to detect the presence of
rising water. When water is detected the BG-HW will set the alarm wire to a high voltage state if the sensor on the boom of the device is detecng
water. The alarm line can be used to drive an audible alarm or other device (up to 1 amp) to nofy the operator and it is easily interfaced with the BG-CP
(Control Panel). The BG-HW is CE and ISO 8846 Marine Ignion Protecon Cered, tested to ABYC-1500 standards.
The BG-HW can be tested and its status can be viewed using the BGI Cong App, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. The App is
used on a mobile device with Bluetooth to wirelessly connect to the BG-HW device. The App will report the input voltage level, system temperature, and
alarm state. It also allows changing the name of the device for easy idencaon and tesng the device.
INSTALLATION
The BG-HW is designed for mounng in any vessel compartment where
detecon of the presence of water is required. A mounng bracket and
three #8x0.75” 316 stainless steel screws are provided to allow mounng
to a vercal or horizontal bulkhead structure.
The Blue Guard Installaon Guide shows the wiring for all supported con-
guraons. All wiring connecons are made using 14 gauge marine grade
wire. All wiring should be done by a licensed electrician following NEC
code.
INSTALL STEPS:
1) Locate proper mounng locaon for the BG-HW.
2) Install mounng bracket to bulkhead using two #8x0.75” stainless steel
screws provided.
3) Aach BG-HW to the mounng bracket in one of these three posions
with the wires facing up:
a. Horizontally with product label facing the bulkhead and the
mounng bracket below the sensor (See Figure 1).
b. Horizontally with product label facing up (See Figure 2).
c. Vercally with product label facing the bulkhead (See Figure 3 or 4).
4) Run wiring to the BG-CP (Control Panel) on the user supply panel and
baery depending on the installaon chosen from the Blue Guard
Installaon Guide. Secure the wiring using the oponal BG-JBox. It is
recommended that connecons to the BG-JBox be made using 14 AWG
crimp spade lugs at the ends of the wires.
5) Apply power to the system.
6) Connect to the BG-HW using the BGI Cong App to view the status of
the unit and test, and set the unit name. The App can be used to view
the system parameters at any me.
*The BG-HW can also be mounted on the hull using three #8x0.75” 316 stainless steel screws.
Mount the strainer rst, then aach the BG-HW into place.

WIRING DESCRIPTION
Power (Red Wire) — System Power In: Supports 12 or 24 Vdc power system.
Alarm (Yellow Wire) — Alarm Output: Transions from 0 Vdc to the voltage supplied on the power line when water is detected. The output supplies up to
1 amp current. Be careful not to connect devices that have a high inrush current that exceeds 1 amp or permanent damage to the unit may occur.
Ground (Black Wire) — Ground Return: Connect to system ground per Blue Guard Installaon Guide.
MAINTENANCE
Periodically check the base of the unit to ensure that no foreign material is stuck inside the sensor poron of the unit.
If salt has built up on the sensor poron, rinse with fresh water to clean.
If cleaning is required, use rubbing alcohol followed by wiping with a so clean cloth.
