The BMW Group has been voted the market leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for
the fifth consecutive year – making it once more the most sustainable automobile manufacturer
in the world. Sustainability is firmly anchored in our entire value chain, from the development
of fuel-saving and alternative vehicle concepts through environmentally friendly production
processes to innovative recycling methods. With BMW EfficientDynamics we launched
a development philosophy in 2000 that provides considerable benefits to our customers, the
climate and the environment today. This is reflected in the emissions tally of our European
new-vehicle fleet – over the period from 1995 to 2008, the fleet’s CO2emissions dropped by
almost 27 %. But our goals are even more ambitious: over the period from 2006 to 2012,
we aim to reduce the consumption of resources such as energy and water in our vehicle
manufacturing operations by 30 %.

RON 95 or 91 fuel reduces engine output.

Fuel consumption is determined in the ECE driving cycle made up of approximately one-third urban and
two-thirds overland driving (measured in terms of mileage covered). CO2 emissions are measured in
addition to fuel consumption. Optional equipment (such as wider tyres) can have a significant impact on
fuel consumption.
