This Workshop Manual covers K series 3- and 4-cylinder models. Wherethere are differencesbetween 3- and
4-cylinder models,the symbol 1
••• 1 relers to the3-cylinderversion and I •••• 1 to the 4-cylinder
version. IIadeviation appliesto only one
or two models, the relevant models designation is stated directly.
This Workshop Manual is intendedto help you carry outall the majorrepairand maintenanceoperations on the
motorcycle correctly.
It should be relerred to whenever necessary byworkshop personnei, as an extension 01
thetheoretical and practical knowledge acquired at our Service Training School. Relerencetothis inlormation
is essential as a means 01 increasing the quality 01 servicingworkstill lurther.
When the contents
01 the Workshop Manual have to be added to or amended, this issue will be replaced. The

x

(Boltor screwphosphatised, nutgalvanized or untreated. Eitheroiled or dry.)
For cadmium-plated bolts
or nuts(total I' == 0.08 to 0.09) thetightening torque for the same strength limit utilisation
of theboltmaterial mustbe 30% lowerthan statedinthetable.
Not valid if the thread has any other surface treatment or lubrication, or for different nut heights. In such cases the
valuesmustbe speciallycalculated.
Not valid for screws
or bolts of the expansion type, for self-locking threaded connections or when components made
from differentmaterialsare usedtoformthethreadedjoint.

and horizontallyatthesides) and remove.
Cut open the sheeting bag and remove the mirrorand
batterycovers, also windshield on K 75
c, K75 sand
K100 RT.

Firstremovethe cross struts.
00 notknock offthecrossstrutsfrom underneath
with a
hammer or similarobjekt, as thereisa risk of
damagingthevehicle.
1- Push offthe side section
2- Twistupthe crossstrut
Next removethe endsofthe crate, togetherwith the
integral caseand enginespoilerif included.
Nextremovethe side sections.
Note:
Do notoperatethe handbrake leveron the K 100 RS and
K 100RT.
Thefront wheel is notfitted!
Onlyapplicabletomotorcycles packed with front
wheel fitted:
Release retaining strapson left and right atfront, loosen
thoseon eitherside atthe rearand removethe support
underoil sump (arrow).
Releasethe retaining strapon the left
atthe rear. Lean
overthe dualseatand undothe right-hand strap.
Push themotorcycleouttothe rear.

Front wheel- installing
K 100RS, K 100RT:
Onlyslacken the retaining strapsas far as
is possible
withoutthe motorcyclefalling over. Raise the motorcycle
with suitable lifting gear(e.g. crane) and unfastenthe
straps. Releasethebrakecaliperon thefork
sl idertubeon
bothsides andthebrake li ne holder.
Allowthe brakecalipersto hang downfreely.
Slacken
offthe retaining screws (arrows) on either side
and remove machinescrew (1) from quick-releaseaxl
e.
Pu ll outquick-releaseaxl e.
Lowerthe motorcycleuntil the frontwheel need notbe
raised for assembly.
Fromthe right-hand si de ofthe motorcycle, push in the
quick-releaseaxle through the clamp blockand wheelas
far asthe stop. Do notforgetthe spacing sleeve (2) on the
left-hand side.Insert machinescrew(1) with shim (3) and
tighten.Only tighten the retaining screws (arrows) on the
left-hand side.
Tighteningtorque:

Push the brakeca li perontothe brake disc, notingthe gap
betweenthe brake pads; carefully force apart a s li ght
distancewith a suilablewedge ifnecessary. Affix brake

li perretaining screws (arrow) and washers, and tighten.
Securethe brake line holderto the s
li dertube.
Tightening torque:
Machinescrew 32 ±

Lowerthe motorcycleand removefrom crate base.
Compressthetelescopic fork a few
limes wilh Ihe
handbrakeapplied. Tighten Ihe relaining screws forlhe
quick- re leaseaxle onthe right-hand side.
The compressing action is intendedto e li minate stresses
in thefork.

• Allowspring hoop (13) to engage in rubberblock on
frame.

• Raisethe spring hoop slightlyforeaseof assembly.

Fitting front holder:
Leveroutstoppers atfront leftofoil sumpand front rightof
crankcase base using ascrewdriver. Fitthetwo M5 sheet
metalnuts (1) on holder(2).
Screwon the holderwith machine screwsand spring
washers.

Cleaning themotorcycle
Position windshield on fairing and screw in M 5 x 25
retaining screws (arrows) with ho il owdiscs.
Tighten retaining screws, working from the centre
outwards.
Screw
in retaining screw (arrow) on eitherside with nut
and rubberwasherfrom the outside and tighten.
As a rule,
al lareastreated with a protectivecoating, in otherwords chromium plated and bright metal parts, aluminium
and brakeelements,can easily be cleaned with aclean, soft cloth.
Dryprotective coating is removed as fo li ows:
