The Bogen VRS1and VRS2 are vandal-resistant speak-
ers designed for hands-free two-way communications.
The VRS1and VRS2 each consist of a 3-inch, weather-
resistant, cone-type speaker and a 25V transformer
(tapped at 1/2 watt). The transformer can be
bypassed for 8-ohm operation. The speaker and trans-
former are mounted on a #11-gauge stainless steel
faceplate. The speaker is protected from harm by the
faceplate, a baffle plate with stamped perforations, and
a grille screen.
The VRS1includes a heavy-duty metal push button
switch that protrudes slightly from the faceplate and
can be used to initiate a call to a control center. The
switch can be wired for use with systems that require
a momentary contact closure for call annunciation
(e.g., MULTICOM 2000), and includes a silicon-con-
trolled rectifier circuit for use with systems that
require “latching” operation (e.g., Multi-Graphic).

The vandal-resistant speaker shall be a Bogen Model
[VRS1] [VRS2], or approved equivalent. It shall pro-
vide for hands-free, two-way communication.The van-
dal-resistant speaker assembly shall consist of a 3-inch,
weather-resistant, cone-type speaker, and a 25V line-
matching transformer tapped at 1/2 watt. It shall be
possible to bypass the transformer when 8-ohm oper-
ation is desired.
(Use for VRS1) The speaker station shall include a
heavy-duty metal push-button type switch, which shall
be wired to provide for call-in to the control center.
It shall be possible to wire the switch for use with sys-
tems that require a momentary contact closure for
call annunciation. A silicon-controlled rectifier circuit
shall be included for use with systems that require
“latching” operation for call annunciation.
All components shall be mounted to a #11-gauge
stainless steel faceplate. The speaker shall be protect-
ed by the faceplate and by a baffle plate with stamped
perforations and a grille screen. The faceplate shall
measure 5-1/2" W x 7-3/4" H, and shall include
mounting holes corresponding to the location of
threaded holes on a 2-1/2" deep gang box (Steel City
H2BD, or equivalent).
