The BridgemateII scoring devicesareplaced onthe bridge tableand areused toenterthe scores.
Forthe purposeofsimplicity,weshall refertotheseinput devicesas”Bridgemates”.Wireless

BridgemateControlSoftware
Aspecificprogramisrequired tocontrolthe serverfromthe PC: BridgemateControl Software(“BCS”).
Thisprogramrunson Windows98 orhigherand iscontrolledinpart byyourscoring program.BCS
fullycontrolsthe serverand dataexchange between theserverand the PC.BCSfirst savesallthe
relevant session datausedbythe servertocontrolthe Bridgemates. BCSthen retrievesall entered
boardresultsfromthe serverand storestheseinthe resultfile. Allotherservercontrolsarealso
executed fromBCS.
Inaddition, the following three componentsareimportant. Although theyarenot supplied togetherwith
yourBridgemateII scoring system, theyareof crucial importancetothe correctoperation ofthe
system.
•Client(=PersonalcomputerwithBridgemateControlSoftware)
•Resultfile
•Scoring program
Client
BridgemateControl Softwarerunson aso-called “client”(Windows-based)personalcomputer(PC).
The scoring programand BCSusuallyrun on one client PC,towhichthe serverisalsoconnected.
During bigtournaments, multipleserversmaybe required tosupport the high numberofBridgemates
and/ortoestablishand maintainthe wireless communication between the serverand the Bridgemates.
Inthiscase, the serversareconnected toanetwork PC, and the network consistsofmultipleclients.
Note: The term“client”suggeststhat the BridgemateII scoring systemalsoconsistsofaPCnetwork
server.Thisisnot the case. All(network) PCsrunning the BridgemateIIscoring systemareknownas
clients.
Resultfile
The resultfileiscreated bythe scoring program. It containsallthe session data, including sections,
tables, movements, etc.Thisdataisgenerated bythe session configured inthe scoringprogram. BCS
readsthissession dataand feedsthe correct datatotheserver. During thesession, BCSreadsallthe
boardresultsentered inthe serverand savestheseinthe resultfile. AllBridgemateII result fileshave
the fileextension .bws.
Scoringprogram
The scoring programcreatesthe session and calculatesthe scores. Afteryou havecreatedasession,
the scoring programwill createthe abovementioned resultfile.Thisfilecontainsallthe relevant
session data. Thescoring programwill read allboardresultssaved inthe result fileand process these
during the session. Theseproceduresareexplained inmoredetailinthe usermanualsorhelpfilesof
yourscoring program.
Procedure
Having examined the individual componentsofthe BridgemateIIscoring system, the next step
involvesassessing the entireprocess and howthe different componentsrelatetoeachother.
The process isoutlined inthebelowdiagram:
