PRODUCT INFORMATION
OSR45 HIGHLIGHTS
• Telescopic (20 to 45 foot) overheight frame for highest flexibility
• Fast and safe container handling, low maintenance
• Robost, fully mechanical design with no power supply or hydraulics
• Easy to transport as it fits into a 20 foot container
• Bromma ISO floating twistlocks
• Index unit eliminates slack in twistlock system
The OSR45 is an automatic telescopic overheight frame.
It can be used together with Bromma spreaders, and also
other spreader brands. Using the OSR45 increases the
operational speed and safety of cranes, reachstackers
and straddle carriers when handling flats and overheight
containers.
The OSR45 can be attached under any parent spreader
with ISO standard base measure which is equipped with
Bromma overheight frame lifting lugs (can be ordered
separately).
The cargo is lifted by the spreader twistlocks which act
as “extended legs” to the spreader. This results in a much
faster and safer handling of goods, compared to using
chains.
As the spreader telescopes, the overheight frame
telescopes simultaneously, allowing the unit to handle
20, 30, 40 and 45 foot containers with overheight cargo.
OSR45 LOAD COMBINATIONS
OSR45
The exact load combination would depend on the design
of the parent spreader.
The OSR45 is only mechanically operated and does not
require any power supply or hydraulics for attaching itself
to the spreader, nor for its operations.
The OSR45 is as standard delivered in a demounted form
in a 20 foot container for easy on-site mounting, thus
reducing transportation costs. It can also be delivered as
an option in a fully assembled form, but will then need to
be delivered on a flatrack.
The OSR45 frame can be quickly and automatically
connected and disconnected to the storage fixture. The
fixture can be placed on the ground or attached to the
crane legs. It can also be moved using the storage fixture
or a forklift.
The exact load combination will depend on the design of the parent spreader.

Steel structure of OSR45
OSR45 STRUCTURE
Made of high quality steel, the OSR45 provides high
lifting capacity with a low nominal tare weight.
All components can be easily assembled, adjusted,
removed and are accessible for inspection and main-
tenance.
The overheight frame is designed in accordance with
EN13001.
The OSR45 is available in different colours but will
be delivered in RAL2004 (orange) as standard, unless
specified otherwise.
The OSR45 has two short side profiles and one tele-
scopic 20 to 45 foot beam that are bolted together.
The telescoping runs on glide plates and follows the
parent spreader telescoping. The overheight frame can
be connected to any parent spreader with ISO stan-
dard base measures, independent of twistlock rotation
directions. The spreader must be equipped with Brom-
ma overheight frame lifting lugs (can be ordered sep-
arately).
The OSR45 comes as standard with a storage fixture.
During storage of the OSR45, the overheight frame will
be stored in the storage fixture, which can be placed
on the ground or mounted on the crane legs.

4
OSR45 - CONNECTING THE OSR45 TO A
SPREADER
To pick up the overheight frame from the storage
fixture the spreader needs to land on the overheight
frame and then do the twistlock ‘lock’ plus ‘unlock’
motion.
During this twistlock movement, a cam wheel in
the storage fixture will rotate to release a mecha-
nism which has been holding up a push rod in the
overheight frame. The push rod is connected with
a spring mechanism, which will push it downwards,
and as a result pull up the latches to engage on the
spreader lugs.
When the push rod comes into a down position, a
plunger will protrude into a hole in the frame, ensur-
ing the latch will stay in its hooked-on position.
The push rod gets an extra movement downward
through a connected spring mechanism, and will be
kept in position.
As the twistlocks will now be unlocked, and the
latches engaged on the spreader lugs, the overheight
frame can be lifted from the storage fixture. The
overheight frame will now only be hanging through
the latches holding on to the spreader lugs.
Once the overheight frame is lifted up from the
storage fixture, a spring mechanism will push up
the release mechanism in the storage fixture, for it
to function accordingly when the overheight frame
needs to be disconnected from the spreader.

5
OSR45 - DISCONNECTING THE OSR45
FROM A SPREADER
When the operation with the OSR45 is completed,
the overheight frame needs to be put back on the
storage fixture in order to be disconnected from the
spreader.
The release mechanism in the storage fixture will
press the push rods on the overheight frame upwards
after landing the overheight frame on the storage
fixture. A wedge connected to the push rod will re-
lease the plunger, ensuring the push rod can be fully
moved upwards, unlocking the latches.
This will release the overheight frame from the
spreader, and the spreader can move away and oper-
ate on its own.

system

6
The overheight frame twistlocks act as extensions
of the parent spreader twistlocks. Both spreader and
overheight frame twistlocks unlock and lock simulta-
neously.
Each twistlock incorporates a landing pin with a
mechanical interlock to prohibit unlock operations
when under load, similar to the Bromma spreaders.
The twistlock pins are proof load tested to 40 metric
tons.
An index unit makes the overheight frame twistlock
move fully 90° when unlocking or locking, eliminat-
ing any slack in the twistlock system.
TWISTLOCKS
The overheight frame twistlocks act as extensions
of the spreader twistlocks and will work in the same
way as a normal spreader operation.
When the twistlocks from the overheight frame are
in locked position, the overheight frame will be held
in the spreader by the twistlocks.
The latches will still be locked, but there will be a
clearance between the latches and the lugs, so the
full weight of both overheight frame and load under-
neath will hang on the twistlocks instead of the lugs
and latches.
As a result, the spreader lugs will only be under load
when the twistlocks are unlocked, and there is no
load hanging under the overheight frame.

TRANSPORTATION
The storage fixture can be lifted by the spreader to-
gether with the overheight frame with the twistlocks
in locked position. It can also be transported by a
fork lift truck or locked to a trailer.

OSR45 can be equipped with one or several possible accessories.
POSSIBLE ACCESSORIES OSR45
The OSR45 has the following available leg lengths:
● 1.80 m (standard)
● 2.25 m
● 2.50 m
● 2.70 m
Longer legs will enable lifting of cargo with higher
overheight, however, this will make each lift more
difficult.
LEG LENGTHS
For spreaders with INRS, a special designed latch is
required on the OSR45, in order to reach higher up.
With this latch, it will still be possible to connect
the OSR45 with standard spreaders using the lifting
lugs.
In order to connect the OSR45 to a spreader, the
spreader needs to be equipped with a spreader lift-
ing lug.
The spreader lifting lug is only designed to lift the
OSR45 itself, as in lifts with locked twistlocks, the
OSR45 will be lifted by the twistlocks.
To simplify maintenance and access of the upper
parts of the OSR45, the storage fixture can be adapt-
ed to also include a platform with rails and ladders.
SERVICE PLATFORM
For spreaders with Twin Twenty Detection System
(TTDS), the OSR45 can be equipped with a special plate
on top helping the TTDS to detect
that there is not empty space during
handling of the OSR45.
TTDS PLATE
The OSR45 can be equipped with
warning stickers.
In addition to the
standard forklift attachment
on the storage frame, a pair
of additional forklift attachment can
be added to the upper frame.

for OSR45 with leg lengths
longer than 1.8 m.
