This document explains how to install or replace Brooktrout™TR114+P2L, TR114+P4C,
TR114+P4D, and TR114+P4L PCI analog fax cards in a OneBox®fax server platform. We
recommend that you read this document in its entirety before disassembling the hardware.
IMPORTANT Consider the following issues when installing these PCI analog fax cards:
•Because Ericsson sells Brooktrout PCI analog fax cards as a kit to be
installed in a computer platform that you provide, we cannot
guarantee the compatibility of these cards in a computer platform that
we have not tested. Hardware conflicts and configuration issues can
occur between hardware devices installed in a computer platform.
Ericsson will offer troubleshooting advice and assistance to the best
of its knowledge and ability. However, you are ultimately responsible
for resolving all hardware conflicts and configuration issues.
•Brooktrout PCI analog fax cards are not approved for use in a
platform containing Brooktrout ISA fax cards. If Brooktrout ISA fax
cards are currently installed in the platform, they must be removed
prior to installing the Brooktrout PCI analog fax cards. Brooktrout PCI
fax cards are approved for use with all Intel®Dialogic®linecards
supported by OneBox.
•Brooktrout PCI analog fax cards are approved for use with RightFax
version 6.0 or later only.

Before You Begin
Review this section before performing any of the procedures in this document. This section
provides important information about electrostatic discharge and document conventions.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Warning
Static electricity will damage internal components. When working with internal components,
keep them on a static-safeguarded work area and make sure that you wear a grounding strap.
Document Conventions
The RightFax software and documentation use the term channel to refer to both analog ports
and digital channels. The OneBox software and documentation use the term port to refer to
analog ports only and reserves the term channel for discussions of digital channels in T1 and
E1 environments. Therefore, this document uses the term port to refer to fax resources
provided by Brooktrout PCI analog fax cards and the term channel in discussions related to
the configuration of the fax cards in the RightFax BoardServer and other software
components. The use of both terms in this document should be considered synonymous.

Installing Brooktrout PCI Analog Fax Cards
in the Platform
All PCI fax cards should share IRQ 10 if the platform’s BIOS allows it. Since Brooktrout PCI
analog fax cards are designed for the PCI expansion bus, the interrupts and memory (I/O)
addresses used by the cards are assigned by the BIOS of the platform, not by configuring
jumpers or switches. For example, a BIOS may allow you to assign IRQ 10 to the expansion
slots you intend to use for the fax cards. Another BIOS may automatically assign IRQ 10 to
the PCI expansion slot based on its location (slot number) in the platform. Refer to the
platform documentation to determine how to configure the platform to assign IRQ 10 to
expansion slots used by PCI fax cards.
In addition, the RightFax BoardServer assigns channel numbers to the PCI fax cards based on
the memory address range assigned to the fax card by the BIOS. The fax card with the lowest
memory address range in the platform is assigned channel 0, and then additional fax channels
in ascending order. For example, a TR114+P2L with the lowest memory address range among
fax cards installed in the platform will be assigned fax channels 0 and 1. A second
TR114+P2L with the next highest memory address range will be assigned fax channels 2 and
3, and so on for all TR114+P2L cards installed in the platform.
If the platform BIOS allows you to assign a memory address range to the PCI expansion slot,
be sure to assign the lowest memory address range to the PCI expansion slot that will contain
the fax card you want to be assigned channel 0. Further, be sure to assign memory address
ranges to additional PCI expansion slots that will contain fax cards in ascending order.
Another BIOS may assign memory address ranges to the PCI expansion slot based on its
location (slot number) in the platform. Refer to the platform documentation for information
about the memory address assignment scheme used by the platform.
Once you have determined a scheme that will assign IRQ 10 to all PCI fax cards, and the
lowest memory address range for the PCI fax card you want to be assigned channel 0 and for
each additional card in ascending order, you can install fax cards into the platform.
IMPORTANT Brooktrout PCI analog fax cards are not approved for use in a platform
containing Brooktrout ISA fax cards. If Brooktrout ISA fax cards are
currently installed in the platform, they must be removed prior to installing
the Brooktrout PCI analog fax cards. Brooktrout PCI analog fax cards are
approved for use with all Dialogic linecards supported by OneBox.
