Pacesetter MacBroidery™ Embroidery Lettering Software –Recipes
The following recipes are installed with MacBroidery™Embroidery Lettering Software.
Select and apply the desired recipe in the preferences. Then begin a new design page to utilize the
settings of the recipe.
Baby Blankets
Baby blankets are most often made of flannel, knit, fleece and other soft-pile fabrics. To embroider on
these, a topping of water soluble stabilizer is used to keep the pile from showing through the
embroidery. If extremely thick consider hooping a sticky tear-away instead of hooping the baby blanket.

Canvas
Canvas is a very stable fabric and is easy to embroider. Canvas, because it is usually thick can be difficult
to hoop. Hooping a sticky type stabilizer will prevent shifting of the fabric during embroidery and
eliminate the need to hoop the canvas.
Fabric Thickness: Heavy
Fabric Stretch: Very little

Caps
Most home embroidery machines do not have a cap frame. Hooping a sticky stabilizer and then
adhering the cap is the most common way of stabilizing caps for embroidery. Watch the embroidery
constantly to be sure the cap remains flat as it sews.
Some Consumers may have a MultiNeedle machine. Be sure to select "MultiNeedle" in the Preferences
section. Now you will see the hoops available for this machine. By selecting the proper hoop you will be
able to set up your embroidery to fit within the embroidery area for a cap design area on a cap frame.
Please consult your machine instruction manual for more specific information.

Dog Collar
Dog collars are generally flexible but thick. Because of this they cannot be hooped to be stabilized
extremely well for machine embroidery. Hooping a sticky stabilizer is best to keep the collar from
shifting during embroidery

Denim
Canvas, denim, twill, duck cloth and many types of 'pack cloths" fit into this category. These are
generally easy to embroider and don't require a lot of stabilizer because the fabric itself is fairly stable.
Beware that many denims now have a little bit of Lycra added for stretch. Most denims will not be
hooped due to thickness of fabric.
Fabric Thickness: Medium to Heavy
Fabric Stretch: Light to a lot of stretch (check for Lycra content )
Needle Size: Size 11 or 14 embroidery needle

Fake Fur
It is usually recommended that any fur type fabric not be hooped. Hooping a self-adhesive stabilizer is
the most common way to adhere the fabric, keeping it flat for embroidery. To embroider on any fur a
topping of water soluble stabilizer is used to keep the pile from showing through the embroidery.

Fleece
Fleece is a soft-pile fabric and comes in a variety of thicknesses. To embroider on these a topping of
water soluble stabilizer is used to keep the pile from showing through the embroidery. If extremely
thick consider hooping a sticky tear-away instead of hooping the fleece. If hooping use cut-away or
heavy weight depending on the design.

Jeans
Denim fabric comes in many weights. Depending on the thickness of the denim the type stabilizer will
vary. If the design is more stitch intensive a heavier stabilizer may also be useful. Jeans are also hard to
hoop. Because Jeans are shaped instead of flat it may be easier to hoop a sticky type stabilizer and
adhere the denim jeans.
Fabric Thickness: Medium to Heavy
Fabric Stretch: Light to a lot of stretch (check for Lycra content )

Leather
Embroidery Designs for leather should be carefully chosen. Open designs with no underlay and low
stitch counts will provide the best results. Because it is very likely that hooping leather will leave marks it
is advisable to hoop the stabilizer and then adhere the leather on top.
Fabric Thickness: Medium to Heavy
Fabric Stretch: Light to a lot
Needle: Size 14 leather needle

Stabilizer: SA5815 Tear-Away Medium Weight Adhesive Stabilizer
Lycra
The stretch of Lycra fabrics can vary from a little to a lot. To keep stretching to a minimum designs with
lower stitch counts work best. If the embroidery design is more detailed the fabric could begin to
pucker or ripple. To minimize stretching the fabric first hoop the stabilizer and then adhere the Lycra on
top. Then place a piece of cut away stabilizer under the hoop. It is recommended that designs to be
sewn on Lycra projects always be tested on the fabric before embroidering the final project.

Pique
Pique is a patterned knit that can easily be embroidered. To minimize stretching the fabric, first hoop
the stabilizer and then adhere the fabric on top. A water soluble topping is suggested as the stitches
have a tendency to sink in a knit fabric.

Pullover
Wool-blend pullovers may vary in their fabric type and thickness. Some pullover fabrics can be easily
hooped and others should be adhered to the top of a hooped stabilizer with a cut away placed under
the hoop. A topping is suggested to to prevent the stitches from sinking into the fabric. Before selecting
a topping check to see if the fabric is washable or not and choose the topping accordingly.

Satin
Satin fabrics tend to be slippery and are not washable. Check the thread to be sure it can be dry cleaned
before attempting to embroider on a special project that will need to be cleaned after use.
Satin also marks easily so hoop the stabilizer and then adhere the fabric on top.

Shirt Cuff
Shirt Cuffs come in all sizes and can be a challenge to embroider on a home embroidery machine. Cuffs
cannot be hooped so hoop an adhesive stabilizer and adhere the cuff in place. A Basting stitch will also
help to keep it from shifting or popping off during embroidery. A hoop grid will help with alignment of
the cuff on the stabilizer.

Silk
Silk comes in all weights and thickness but also varies in many ways. Check the characteristics of the silk
fabric before embroidering. For silks that are "dry clean only" use a thread that can be dry cleaned as
well and do not use a water soluble stabilizer. If the silk is a loose-weave type or extremely heavy, a
topping may be needed to keep the stitches from sinking into the fabric. For very lightweight silks
consider open-style embroidery with lower stitch counts and always test sew your design before
embroidering.

Sweat Shirt
Sweat shirt fabric is stretchy, usually heavy and difficult to hoop. Hoop the stabilizer then adhere the
fabric onto the stabilizer. Place a piece of cut away under the hoop A water soluble topping may be
needed on top to keep the stitches from sinking into the fabric.

T-Shirt knits can be a variety of fabric blends and range from thin to heavy. T-Shirt knits should to be
stabilized on the top and bottom for best results. Stabilizing requirements may vary depending on the
density of the embroidery design.

Towels
Towels vary in weight but are generally thick and difficult to hoop. Some sticky stabilizers can pull the
terry looping when removed so using a spray adhesive is suggested. To embroider on these a topping of
water soluble stabilizer is used to keep the pile from showing through the embroidery.

Velvet
Velvet has nap and can vary in the amount of stretch. Some velvets are washable and some are not.
Because hooping can leave permanent marks on the fabric it is best to hoop the stabilizer and then
adhere the fabric on top. Place a piece of tear away under the hoop. To embroider on this fabric a
topping of water soluble stabilizer is used to keep the pile from showing through the embroidery. Keep
in mind if a water soluble topper is used that the excess will need to be removed by hand because most
velvet cannot be wet to remove the stabilizer. If the velvet is "dry-clean only" check to be sure the
thread used is also able to withstand dry-cleaning.

Woven Fabrics
Woven fabrics include a number of different types such as cotton, cotton calico and cotton polyester
blend and are easily embroidered. A variety of stabilizers can be used with good results but some may
give the best results using two layers since these fabrics are generally thinner in nature.
