General
Introduction
You have opted for a small basic stove with BRULA firebox. We would like to
congratulate you on your choice and thank you for showing confidence in our
product. With this product you are getting premium quality basic stove technology for
a healthy radiant heat and stylish heating. We hope you enjoy using our "fiery"
products. These assembly and operating instructions serve to familiarise you with
the assembly and correct handling of this fireplace in order to ensure smooth
operation. Please take the time to read these assembly and operating instructions
carefully. Our warranty and guarantee only apply if all points for the correct assembly
and operation of the fireplace are observed as described below. Keep the assembly
and installation instructions in a safe place so you can refer to how to operate the
fireplace correctly time and time again (e.g., at the start of a new heating period).
The basic stove principle
The basic stove (also known as a storage stove) is synonymous with long-lasting
and healthy heating. And these are precisely the advantages offered by this stove
system. Compared to a hot air system which uses the principle of convection and
essentially only heats up the air, a basic stove emits warmth into the room slowly
and evenly in the form of healthy radiant heat, something which is valued in
particular by allergy sufferers. And this is how it works: Once the fire has been lit in
the combustion chamber, the heating gases are drawn through a draught system
made of firebricks which absorb and store the heat. The draught system is designed
so that the heating gases must firstly pass through the entire stove before escaping
through the chimney. This means that the generated heat is emitted by the stove
over a long period of time. The radiant heat created in this way does not heat up the
air but rather the objects which it encounters, just like a ray of sun.

General requirements
Please note that the small basic stove must be installed taking the specific state
building regulations into account, "any national or local rules, general specifications
and application rules must be observed"
Please consult your competent district master chimney sweep about this prior to
installation.
He will advise you on the suitable chimney as well as all other requirements which
are of relevance for the setup and commissioning of your basic stove. A sufficient
combustion air supply must be ensured in particular, especially with a well sealed
building shell, flat ventilation systems etc. in order to guarantee smooth operation.
Your chimney sweep will be able to help here too. He will also check that the
fireplace has been connected properly.
The small basic stove described here is tested according to DIN EN 15250:2007,
15a B-VG Austria) and may be attached to a chimney with multiple connections
provided that the chimney's technical conditions allow this. If the basic stove is
attached to a chimney with multiple connections, the springs in the firebox door must
not be removed. This ensures that the door closes automatically after adding more
fuel and thus the supply pressure of the chimney is not affected.
Installation site / fire protection regulations
When setting up the small basic stove, the valid fire protection regulations of the
German Fire Code Ordinance (FeuVo) must be observed. The specified minimum
distances to combustible objects and walls must be maintained and the flooring must
also be protected.
Note on setting up the fireplace only on surfaces with a sufficient load bearing
capacity. If the load bearing capacity is not sufficient, suitable measures must be
taken (e.g. a panel for load distribution) to remedy this. Safety distances:

All connections from the stove to the chimney must be tight and firm. Always use a
wall lining to connect the connecting piece to the chimney.

Operation of the basic stove
The fireplace should only be operated by adults, supervise children! Only use
suitable lighting and burning materials as described in these operating instructions.
Check whether there is a good combustion air supply to ensure perfect operation of
the fireplace.
Initial commissioning
All the documents, accessories, tools and other objects provided must be removed
from the firebox. Inform yourself fully as regards fuels (refer to page 8). To avoid
cracks and damage when using for the first time, all cladding elements and
components must be dry. The first burnup should be at a reduced heat, i.e., not with
the full amount of fuel as the stove must firstly get used to the development of heat.
Any smells which occur (e.g., from the firebox door) dissipate after a short time.
Heating up
Use 2.0 kg of small pieces of wood (strips) to heat up the fire (max. length 30 cm),
leave the door ajar, the air slider should be fully open,
allow to burn for approx. 10 minutes.
Adding fresh fuel
After 30 minutes place two logs (approx. 1.8 - 1.9 kg) next to each other in the
firebox (max. length 28 cm), the combustion time is approx. 45 min., lock the door,
move the air slider to the "nominal load position". Once the 2 logs have burnt, two
logs of the same size are to be added.
Add new fuel like this a total of 4 times.

Achieving glowing embers
Add 2.5 kg of wood after 10 minutes (small to medium sized logs) - diameter approx.
4 to 6 cm, length of max. 28 cm - lock the door,
set the air slider to half open, allow to burn for approx. 30 minutes
After firing up, close the air slider
A maximum of 12 kg can be placed in the stove during one complete burn-up
Ash
Wood logs and wood briquettes produce only a small amount of combustion residue.
It will therefore be necessary to remove this ash from time to time. This should be
done when the bed of ashes is more than 5 cm high. It is staggering how long
embers can remain hot in seemingly cold ash. That is why ash should never be
thrown directly from the stove in the waste bin. It is recommended to store ash
temporarily in a metal bucket with lid. Ash is also suitable for composting.
General instructions
• The maximum amount of fuel which can be placed in the stove is 3 kg.
• Do not store combustible items on the stove.
• Metal items can become hot.
• Your basic stove is not a waste incineration plant and should never be used for
burning waste!
• Just like all technical appliances, your basic stove should also be checked by a
specialist at regular intervals to ensure it is functioning properly.
The fireplace must never be modified!

Tips
During extreme weather conditions (low pressure, fog, etc.) it is advised to keep the
combustion chamber door ajar (with locking) during heating up until the firebox /
draughts and the chimney have reached the operating temperature. The combustion
chamber door must be closed for subsequent operation.
The firebox must be monitored when the combustion chamber door is not closed in
order to intervene if necessary.
Safety instructions
Operate the small basic stove as per these operating instructions and note the
following information on the proper handling of the firebox to ensure efficient and
environmentally friendly heating.
Caution! The stove and stove door with view pane become hot during combustion
and there is a risk of burns. Use a glove to open the stove door.
Do not place combustible objects on or in the direct vicinity of the stove. Maintain a
distance of at least 80 cm between combustible objects and the stove door.
If fireplaces are installed in living areas and the combustion air is taken from the
room where the fireplace is installed, the operator must ensure that the fireplace is
supplied with sufficient combustion air.
What to do in the event of a chimney fire
−Close the combustion air inlet and keep it closed
−Call the fire brigade and the chimney sweep!
−Enable access to the cleaning openings (e.g., cellar and attic)!
−Remove all combustible materials from the chimney!
−Before using the fireplace again, notify your chimney sweep and have the
chimney checked for damage.
−Equally, the chimney sweep should determine the cause of the chimney fire and
remedy this.

Fuels
Wood has a significantly lower fuel value and causes sooting of the firebox pane and
the accumulation of soot in the chimney.
Beech, ash and birch are best suited as fuels. These wood types have a high fuel
value and burn cleanly if stored properly in a dry place.
Tip: Freshly cut wood should be stored for around 18 months outside in a dry place,
protected from the rain, before being used as fuel.
Use a standard fireplace lighter to light the fire.
The following must not be used for lighting and must not be burnt:
• Liquid fuels
• Moist or treated wood
• Wood chips or bark waste
• Chip boards or comparable coated and
uncoated materials
• Plastics and foams
• All materials which are foreign to wood
• Paper, cardboard
• All types of waste
Your fireplace is not a "mini waste incineration plant"!
Please protect the environment and only use approved and suitable fuels!
Cleaning the firebox
When operated properly, wood in the basic stove burns leaving approx. 1 -2% residue.
When removing ashes from the firebox, it must be ensured that there are no residual
embers. Any soiling of the firebox pane can be easily removed with a special cleaner.
Only ever clean the firebox when it is cold.
