This User Guide provides you with all the
information you need to get the most from
your BT Defender 100.
You must first set up your ma hine before you
an use it. This doesn’t take long and is easy
to do. Just follow the simple instru tions on
the next few pages.

Setting up
1. Plug the power able into your BT Defender 100 and the
other end into the mains.
2. While holding down the and buttons, swit h on your
BT Defender 100. The light will initially be red. When the light
turns green, release the and buttons.
3. Remove the battery ompartment over and install a
9v alkaline ba k-up battery (optional).
4. Plug in the operator’s headset.

IMPORTANT
The BT Defender 100 must be
plugged into the mains power at
all times.

A new PP3 9v alkaline ba k-up
battery provides power for up to
2 days if the mains power fails.
This will start your noise dose
monitoring without the need to
onne t to a omputer.

5. Plug in the supervisor’s headset (optional).
This allows a supervisor to ‘listen in’ to alls only. There is
no mi rophone onne tion so they annot speak to allers.

7. Pla e the BT Defender 100 on your work surfa e so that you

hen first switched on:
Solid Red = The noise dose monitoring is not a tive.
To a tivate noise dose monitoring please refer to point 2 in
Setting up, page 5.
Flashing Red = fault, do not use. Call the Helpline.
During normal use
Flashing Green = se re y on
Turning Green to Red = noise monitor. When the light is solid
red, it is re ommended that the agent has an appropriate
break from taking alls.

www.bt.com/defender for
instru tions on how to download the
software and set the date and time.
If there is a power failure, the
BT Defender 100 will display a solid
RED. This is to inform the user that
noise dose monitoring needs to be
rea tivated.

The ‘Startle’ effe t is when a loud
noise startles you, ausing a sudden
ontra tion of the ne k and shoulder
mus les. This an lead to ne k and
ba k injuries.
Volume
1. Press to in rease and to lower the earpie e
sound level.
Secrecy
1. Press on e to swit h off the mi rophone.
The indi ator light flashes green and you an talk to someone
else without your aller hearing you.
2. Press again to resume your all. The indi ator light
returns to its noise monitor setting.
Sudden loud noises
If your aller makes a sudden loud noise – shouting, blowing
a whistle, loud hailer et – all of whi h have happened – your
BT Defender 100 instantly redu es the sound level to a safe
level. This helps prote t your ears and prevent injuries aused
by the ‘Startle’ effe t.

Installing the software
The software an be downloaded from www.bt.com/defender
The software is only used to log events with date and time.
The BT Defender 100 will prote t agents irrespe tive to
whether the software has been loaded or not.
Follow the instru tions on the web site to download the
software.

Replacing the back-up battery
If you have a power ut a new, fully harged PP3 9v alkaline
battery should provide power for up to 2 days.
The battery should be repla ed every year even if there have
been no power failures. We re ommend you always repla e
the battery immediately after a power failure.
Remove the battery ompartment over and remove the
existing battery. Insert new battery and repla e the
ompartment over.

Your BT Defender 100 doesn’t work – no indicator
lights, no dial tone
Che k that it is plugged into the mains power and that the
power is swit hed on.
If there is a power failure, he k that you have a fully harged
battery installed, see page 13.
You can hear your caller but they can’t hear you

on the underside of the BT Defender 100? The supervisor an

Only use the power supply in luded with the produ t. Using
an unauthorised power supply will invalidate your guarantee
and may damage the produ t. The item number for the
power supply used with the base is 023724.
Use only PP3 9v alkaline batteries for ba k-up power.
Do not open the produ t (ex ept to repla e the battery).
This ould expose you to high voltages or other risks.

Never dispose of batteries in a fire. There is a serious risk of
explosion and/or the release of highly toxi hemi als.
Cleaning
Simply wipe lean with a damp (not wet) loth, or an
anti-stati wipe. Never use household polish as this will
damage the produ t. Never use a dry loth as this may ause
a stati sho k.

Your BT Defender 100 is guaranteed for a period of 12 months
from the date of pur hase.
Subje t to the terms listed below, the guarantee will
provide for the repair of, or at BT’s or its agent’s dis retion
the option to repla e the BT Defender 100 or any omponent
thereof, (other than batteries), whi h is identified as faulty
or below standard, or as a result of inferior workmanship of
materials. Produ ts over 28 days old from the date of
pur hase may be repla ed with a refurbished or repaired
produ t.
The conditions of this guarantee are:
The guarantee shall only apply to defe ts that o ur within
the 12 month guarantee period.
Proof of pur hase is required.
The equipment is returned to BT or its agent as instru ted.

If the Helpline is unable to remedy your problem they will ask

parts, in luding the line ords, power supply units and the
original batteries. (Please note that we annot take
responsibility for goods damaged in transit.) Please obtain
