Install the batteries
Your BT Freeway Mini mobi e radios each use 3 x AAA
a ka ine batteries.
With the back of radio facing you, s ide down the
battery compartment cover.
Insert 3 x AAA a ka ine batteries ensuring that the + and
– marked on the batteries match up with those marked
inside the battery compartment as shown.
S ide the battery cover back into p ace.
If the be t c ip is attached, you wi
need to remove it first, see
‘Attaching the be t c ip’, page 6.
Battery low warning
When the batteries are ow and
need rep acing, your BT Freeway
Mini radio repeated y gives a
doub e beep.
The operation of your radio wi be
become unre iab e when the
batteries are ow.
If the battery eve gets too ow,
your radio wi automatica y
switch off.
For ong-term storage of your
radios it is recommended that you
remove the batteries.

Remember!
To communicate with others, a
mobi e radios in your group must
be set to the same channe .
Switching on
1. Press and hold the button for about 3 seconds, unti
you hear a beep. Your radio wi brief y carry out a LCD
check before disp aying your current channe number.
Switching off
1. Press and hold the button for about 3 seconds,
unti you hear a beep. The radio switches off.
Ad usting the volume
There are 15 vo ume eve s (v1 to v15)
1. When the radio is switched on, press or to
adjust the vo ume. The disp ay f ashes showing the
current eve .
2. Either press to save your new setting or eave the
radio for 5 seconds and your new setting wi be
automatica y saved. The radio gives a confirmation
beep.

Set channel
Your BT Freeway Mini has 8 channe s.
To communicate with others, a radios in your group
must be set to the same channe .
1. Press . The current channe f ashes. Press or
to se ect another channe .
2. Either press to save your new setting or eave the radio
for 5 seconds and your new setting wi be automatica y
saved. The radio gives a confirmation beep.
Talking to another radio
When your radios are switched on:
1. Press and hold .
2. Ho d the radio about 5-7cm from your mouth and speak.

3. Re ease when you have finished speaking. Your
istener wi hear a beep (ca ed a roger tone) to confirm
you have finished speaking. They can then speak to you.
When you are transmitting you wi notice the LCD
out ine stops f ashing and becomes permanent y it.
Sending call tone
To a ert other radios in your group that you want to
communicate with them, you can send a ca tone.
This can a so he p you find a misp aced radio.
1. Press . Both your radio and the other radios in your
group wi sound a ca tone.
Listen to another radio
When switched on, your BT Freeway Mini is a ways in
standby reception when the is not being pressed and
you are not changing any of the settings. Provided the
other radio is using the same channe , you wi hear
them speak.

It is recommended that you do not
use your radios c oser than 1.5
metres apart to avoid interference.
Your radios have a range of up to
3km. However, the range is
affected by the environment or
terrain in which it is being used.
To obtain the maximum range,
use in c ear ine of site situations.
Obstructions between the radios
(e.g. bui dings) wi great y reduce
the range achieved.

When the other radio user has finished speaking you
can respond.
When you are receiving a transmission you wi notice
the LCD out ine stops f ashing and disappears.
Channel scan
You can scan through the 8 channe s on your
BT Freeway Mini to check for any activity and see which
channe s are in use and which are free. You can a so
scan through to ocate another radio user in your group
who has accidenta y changed channe s.

Using your mobi e radios
2. When scan is switched on your radio wi rapid y scan
each of the 8 channe s and pause for 5 seconds on any
active channe so you can hear the transmission, before
resuming the scan.
If an active channel is found and you hear the transmission:
To respond to the other radio, press within 5 seconds.
To exit the transmission, and continue with the channe
scan press or .
Channel monitor
When you are not receiving a ca your handset
automatica y mutes the speaker so that you wi not
hear weak signa s or background noise. By switching
channe monitor ON you can hear transmissions on your
se ected channe that you wou d not hear under norma
circumstances as the signa is too weak.
1. Press three times. The channe monitor is switched
ON for 5 seconds. During this time you wi hear
background noise a ong with any weak transmissions.

Poor reception
The range is dependent on environment and terrain.
The range of your BT Freeway Mini radios can be impaired when there is not c ear
sight between the radios. For examp e, bui dings and thick stone wa s can severe y
affect the range.

Safety and genera
Do not open the mobi e radio.
Radio signa s transmitted between mobi e radios may cause interference to hearing aids.
Switch off the mobi e radio when near medica equipment.
This product shou d not be used by peop e with pacemakers.
Do not use the radio when driving a vehic e or operating machinery.
Do not use your radio when on board an aircraft.
Do not use your radio if it has a damaged antenna. When transmitting do not ho d the
antenna.
Turn the radio off and remove the batteries during ong term storage.
IMPORTANT In the event of an accident this product cannot be used to contact the emergency services.
