You will need a computer-friendly te t light and a 5/16 drill bit
when mounting the hood pin witch. In mo t ca e no additional
tool are required, however if the bottom of your da h on the
driver ide will come off you mu t remove it. In thi ca e a
crewdriver or ocket et may be needed.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN CONT.
PRECAUTIONS
This system will add rem te keyless entry features t any vehicle
with p wer d r l cks. This will als w rk as a replacement
system f r the fact ry installed keyless entry system.
Use masking tape t indicate the preferred m unting l cati ns
f interi r c mp nents, LED and verride switch.
Disc nnect the d me light fuse until y u are ready t plug the
unit in.
DO NOT use mechanical wiring c nnecti ns, such as crimp or
snap together taps. F ll w instructi ns n pages 2-3.
DO NOT disc nnect the battery if the vehicle has an anti-theft-
c ded radi r is equipped with an airbag. D ing s may cause
a warning light t be displayed and may require a trip t the
dealer t be c rrected.
DO NOT leave the interi r r exteri r lights n f r an extended
peri d f time as it may cause battery drain.
DO NOT m unt the c ntr l m dule until all c nnecti ns have

When testing f r a p sitive r negative v ltage, y u must use a
c mputer friendly test light (l gic pr be) r a v lt/ hm meter. Make
sure t pr be and test each wire bef re making y ur c nnecti ns.
TESTING YOUR WIRES
PRECAUTIONS CONT.
DO NOT plug the harnesses int the c ntr l m dule until all
c nnecti ns have been made. Be careful t line up the pins n
the unit with the wiring harness plug (lip up - Red wire t the
right). Failure t d this will cause severe damage t the unit
and p ssibly t the vehicle.
MAKING CONNECTIONS
1. Strip back tw inches f insulati n n the wire fr m the rem te
starter.
2. Strip back ne inch f insulati n n the wire y u need t c nnect t .
3. Separate the vehicle wire as sh wn. Make the separati n large
en ugh t fit the ther wire thr ugh.
4. Insert the wire(s) fr m the starter thr ugh the h le as sh wn. if tw
r m re wires are inserted, wrap them in pp site directi ns.

NOTE:If it is necessary to cut a factory wire to make a connection,
see iagram on page 8.

6. Use electrical tape to wrap. Be sure to cover the wire about two
inches on either side of the connection. First pull the wire that you
have just connected along side the wire you connected to, tape and
wire tie them together. Use this method for all connections.
CAUTION: All wires must be wrapped with tape and wire
tied.
. Wrap the wire around one side then the other and finally around
itself as shown.

2. Twist upper wires together, twist lower wires together as shown.
1. When tying two separate wires together at their ends, strip back 1
of insulation on both wires and separate the strands of wire as shown
below.

4. Use electrical tape to wrap, be sure to cover about 2 inches on either
side of connection. Secure with wire ties as shown.

Use this method ONLY when connecting two separate wires end to end.
LOCATING & MAKING
CONNECTIONS
CONSTANT POWER (+12V, key in any position including off)
This system operates on constant 12 volts, the system also needs a source
of power that is only on when the ignition is turned on (usually referred
to as Ignition Power.
1. Locate the wires going to your vehicles ignition switch (usually located
coming down the steering column). When looking for constant 12 volts:
Usually a large gauge wire located at the ignition switch harness. Probe
these wires until you find one that turns a computer-friendly test light,
or shows 12 volts when the ignition switch is turned to the ON, OFF,
START and ACCESSORY positions. If this wire cannot be located at the
ignition switch harness, run at least a 16 gauge wire from the positive
battery terminal fused at 6 inches from the positive battery post to the
inside of the vehicle through the firewall. (Additional hardware is needed.)
2. Mark this with its function Constant Power.

3. Turn the ignition ON. Probe for a ire that sho s 12 volts only hen the
ignition is on. Confirm this by turning the ignition on and off hile probing
each ire.
4. Mark this ire ith its function Ignition Po er.
5. If these ires cannot be located, please call our technical support staff at
800-878-8007.
CONNECTING THE POWER AND GROUND
1. Connect the RED ire from the harness to a constant 12 volt supply or to
the ire you ran from the positive battery post (if no constant 12 volt supply
as found at the ignition s itch harness).
2. Connect the BLACK ire from the harness to a clean chassis ground, usually
a steel automotive body part connected to the negative side of the battery.
CONNECTING IGNITION POWER
1. Connect the YELLOW/BLACK ire from the harness to the ire market
Ignition Po er.
FINDING THE PARKING LIGHT WIRE (optional - included)
To have the parking lights flash hen using keyless entry or during a violation,
you must connect the 1402 to the vehicles parking lights.
1. Locate the ire harness coming from the back of your vehicles light control.
If the control is on your vehicles steering column, the harness probably joins
several iring harnesses.
2. Use the vehicles iring color code to find the parking light ire. Connect
this ire to the parking light ire usually located under the hood going to your
parking lights.
3. Turn on the parking lights. Probe the ires. The test light should light
indicating 12 volts only w en t e parking lig ts are on.
4. After you locate the ire, use a piece of masking tape to mark it ith its
function (Parking Lights).

Connect the BROWN ire from the iring harness to the ire marked Parking
Lights.

is only rated for 200 ma (1/5 amp). CAUTION: Overloading
t ese outputs is not considered a warranty related repair.
CONNECTING THE NEGATIVE OUTPUT #2, BUTTON #3
The GREY ire is used to operate the po er trunk release. Press and
release Button #3. The trunk ill open and the parking lights ill
flash. If the unit is armed (doors locked) you must press and hold
Button #3 for t o seconds. The trunk ill open and the shock sensor
input (black ire ith green tag) ill be disabled. The door triggers
ill still be active. NOTE: A 30 amp relay must be used since t is
negative output is only rated for 200 ma (1/5 amp). Since
most power trunk releases are positive controlled and draw
5 to 6 amps, t is relay andles t e load and also can convert
t e release signal from negative to positive polarity.
INSTALLING THE FLASHING LED STATUS INDICATOR
(optional)
The LED indicator installs inside your vehicle and should be installed
as high as possible and in vie from all indo s. Drill a 1/4 inch
mounting hole in the dash panel or use the supplied mounting bracket
to hold the LED status indicator in place.

CONNECTING THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS TO THE MODULE
Carefully plug the mai har ess i to the 1402 module. DO NOT plug
the harnesses into the control odule until all connections have
been ade. Be careful to line up the pins on the unit with the
wiring harness plug (lip up - Red wire to the right). Failure to do
this will cause severe da age to the unit and possibly to the
vehicle.
CONNECTING THE STARTER DISABLE (Part #773 Required)
Locate the cra ki g wire at the base of the steeri g colum . Whe testi g,
the cra ki g wire will show 12 DC o ly whe the key is i the cra ki g
positio . O ce located, cut the wire i two. Try to cra k the e gi e, it
should ot cra k. Next, mark both e ds of the cra ki g wire. The wire
ru i g back i to the steeri g colum , mark Key Side, a d the wire
ru i g toward the e gi e, mark Starter Side.

armed to the optio al starter disable relay (-) egative i put.
Use a wire tie to secure the starter disable relay to a o -movi g part
u der the dash.

DETERMINING YOUR VEHICLES DOOR PIN SWITCH TYPE
NOTE: For your alar syste s ar ing feature to work, you ust
connect the alar to the door pin switch.
O some vehicles this wire might also be called a door trigger a d is
usually located behi d the drivers kick pa el. Some vehicles have logic
co trolled dome a d courtesy lights that tur o differe tly depe di g
o which vehicle door is ope ed. NOTE: So e vehicles such as Honda
have door switch isolation diodes on each door. These vehicles
ust be wired at the wire that triggers the do e light circuit after
the diodes. If the door switch wires are difficult to reach, connect
the input wire to the do e light itself. Be sure to locate a wire
that is triggered fro all your vehicles doors.
Touch your test lights positive lead to a poi t o the fuse block that has
co sta t 12 volts. Use the other lead to probe the co trol wire. The ope
the door. If the test light tur s o , your vehicle has a egative
(-) switch door pi .

Use the positive lead or other lead to probe the co trol wire. The ope
the door. If the test light illumi ates, your vehicle has a positive (+)
switch door pi .
Use maski g tape to mark the wire with its fu ctio Dome Light a d
switchi g type positive or  egative.
CONNECTING THE DOOR PIN SWITCH (Programmable optio )
Co ect the RED/BLACK wire from the module to the wire marked Dome
Light. (Select positive or egative accordi g to the pi switch type whe
i programmi g mode - refer to programmi g mode, page 25. NOTE:
The door i puts activate 10 seco ds after armi g. If the 1402 chirps three
times with the door closed, after armi g the system, the wro g door
optio has bee selected.
FINDING THE EXISTING CAR HORN WIRE
The existi g car hor wire will usually be fou d i a har ess at the base
of the steeri g colum . Probe for a wire which will remai eutral u til
the hor is pressed. Whe the hor is pressed, the test light will show a
egative pulse or a grou d. To be sure that this is the correct wire, simply
pulse the chassis grou d to this wire. The hor should sou d. Mark this
wire with its fu ctio , Hor .

 
 
CONNECTING THE CAR HORN WIRE
You must use optional part #775.
MOUNTING AND CONNECTING THE OPTIONAL SIREN
Select a location under the hood for the siren. For best results, the location
should meet the following conditions:
 he mounting location should be solid and have no moving parts nearby.
For the loudest sound, the siren should point down.
 he siren should not point straight up as moisture could collect in the
siren horn and damage the system.
 o prevent water damage, the siren should NO be mounted in a wheel
well, directly behind the radiator grill or close to the ground.
Mount the siren as far away from sources of heat, i.e. exhaust manifold,
turbo charger, etc. as possible. ape, wrap or tube all wires. Run all
wires to the siren as high up in the engine compartment as possible to
prevent cutting from below.

Using the siren base as a template, mark the three mounting holes.
Drill a 1/8 inch hole at each mounting hole location, taking care not to
damage anything behind the mounting surface.
Secure the siren to the mounting location with two of the mounting
screws.
Connect the wires as shown.

TESTING: Door Locks  There are four basic types:
Type A Door Lock Test (Most GMs a d some Chryslers)
Probe both of your door lock wires going to the door lock switch usually
located in the drivers kick panel. Attach the clip end of your test light
to a good chassis ground. Using the vehicles door lock controls, activate
the lock then the unlock, testing both wires one at a ti e. If one of these

sensor to 22 gauge BLACK wire with green tag. If you add ore than
one sensor, a diode ust also be added. NOTE: This u it is desig ed
to use o ly a si gle stage se sor. If you are usi g a dual stage
se sor, use o ly the major output of the se sor. CAUTION: Whe
addi g more tha o e perimeter se sor o the same i put trip,
you must add a 500ma diode to the output of each se sor.

Drill a 5/16 inch hole in the ounting surface, taking care not to da age
anything behind the surface.
Re ove the switchs top nut and lock washer.
Push the switch into the hole fro the back of the ounting surface.
Then secure it with the lock washer and nut.
Connect the ground wire to a etal vehicle body part using an existing
screw.
Plug override switch into the left side of the ain header.

TESTING DOOR LOCKS CONT.
wires tests (+) positive when ock is pressed and the other tests (+)
positive when they are un ocked, your vehic e has a Type A door
ocking system. Make sure to mark which wire is ock and un ock. Proceed
to Connecting Door Locks, Connecting Door Locks. NOTE: Type A and
Type C ocks wi test the same, unti you test for ground. Make sure
you run both tests before making your connections.
Type B Door Lock Test (Most Imports, some newer Fords)
Probe both of your door ock wires going to the door ock switch usua y
ocated in the drivers kick pane . Attach the c ip end of your test ight
to +12V. Using the vehic es door ock contro s, activate the ock then the
un ock testing both wires one at a time. If the test ight i uminates when
you probe the ock and the un ock wires your vehic e has a Type B
door ocking system. Make sure to mark which wire is ock and un ock.
Proceed to Connecting Door Locks.
Type  Door Lock Test (Most Fords, some hryslers, GM Trucks)
(Optiona part #778 required)
Using your test ight probe both the ock and the un ock wires usua y
ocated in the drivers kick pane . Attach the c ip end of your test ight
to ground probing both wires one at a time whi e ocking and un ocking
the doors with the drivers side switch (usua y the master switch). The
test ight shou d i uminate in both switch positions. Now attach the c ip
end of your test ight to +12V constant, probe both wires one at a time
again. The ight shou d then i uminate again on y in reverse order. This
te s you that you have a Type  reversing po arity system. Make sure
to mark which wire is ock and un ock. Proceed to Connecting Door Locks.
Testing Switch Wire and Motor Wires for Type  Door Locks
Before connecting, you must now determine which wire is the switch wire
and which is the motor wire. Cut both the ock and un ock wires in ha f.
Start with both of the ock wires by p acing the c ip end of your test ight
to ground, ho d the door ock switch in the ock position, make sure you
are using the master switch (usua y on the drivers door) and probe both
ock wires ooking for vo tage. The wire that i uminates the test ight,
mark as the switch wire, the wire that shows no vo tage, mark as the
motor wire. Repeat the procedure for the un ock wire.
One Wire Door Lock System
Some vehic es have a sing e switch wire for both ock and un ock. This
system wi wire as a Type A or Type B depending on the vehic e. The
on y difference being this system wi require one or two resistors depending
on the make and mode of the vehic e. P ease consu t our website for the
proper resistor va ue for your vehic e.
