This manual describes how to access the NetViewService Point function in a SmartSwitch
1800, 9W004, FRX4000, or FRX6000from a NetView host. It is assumed that the user has a
working knowledge of NetView, so this document does not attempt to explain how to use
NetView.

Introduction
NetViewsupport in Cabletron frame relay access products provides manager access
to downstream SDLC devices,and allows themanager to diagnose problems and
change parameters in the node to overcome some problems.
The NetView host (focal point) sends commands to the service point in the form of
NMVTs (network management vector transports). The service point function trans-
lates information from the node into NMVTs and responds to the host.
The various user guides (FRX4000/6000, SmartSwitch 1800, and Frame Relay
Module) describesthe NetView function inthe relatedproducts. The remainder of this
document describes the supported operations on the NetView host.
Installing the Cabletron Supplemental Software
It isstrongly recommended that the software be installed by
someone familiar with NetView.
To install the Cabletron software into the host device, follow this procedure:
1. Upload the binary/EBCDIC files (all files without filename extensions) from the
PC to a temporary or working Partitioned Data Set (PDS) on the host, as follows:
a. Insert the 3.5" (DOS) NetView diskette into the device and edit the file
SENDER.BAT,replacingthe lowercase letters with values appropriateto your
configuration.
b. Log onto your target host and set it up for a file transfer.
c. Execute UPLOAD.BAT from the PC.
2. Edit Host PDS member "NSS" as follows:
a. Find the sample name "SAMPLE."
b. Enter the names (as known to VTAM) of the Network Management PUs that
identify each Netlink node to NetView.
c. Optionally, enter the Data Set Name to record configuration change requests.
3. Copy or move all members whose fourth character is a "U" or "V" to a NetView
Panel dataset. Copy or move all other members to a Clist dataset.

Operation
To invoketheprogram, enter NSSfrom the NCCF. This will display a screen similar
to the following:

Service Point Name
Status – is the status (active or inactive) of the PU.
Prod Type– will always be OLX.
Software Version – is the current version of the Cabletron software.
Config Name – is always OLXCONF.
Last Loaded – is the time of the last IPL.
Function Key Operations
Pressing one of thefunction keys listed below will perform the appropriate operation:
[PF1] Help – willdisplay a"road map" ofthepanels (screens),shown in
Figure2.
[PF3] End – will exitto the NCCF (NetView Controls Command Facility).
[PF7], [PF8] Pg_up,Pg_down – will scroll the screen up or down if there is more
information to display.
[PF11] Rfsh – will re-display the screen with updated values.

Data Displayed
Line Name – is the Name configured on the first screen of the Cabletron deviceSNA
Port record, or if that parameter is not configured, the Name in the NetView Param-
eters part of the Network Defaults record.
Actual Status – is the current status (active or inactive) of the line.
Desired Status – matchesthe Blocked PortFlag (N= active, Y =inactive) configured
on the first screen of the SNA Port record.
Port – is the RLP and port that defines the line.
Interface – is always RLP/960.
DTR/DSR/CTS/DCD – are the current states (On, Off) of the modem signals on the line.
Function Key Operations
Pressing one of the function keyslisted below will perform the appropriate operation
from the Line Status panel:
[PF1] Help – will display the Help panel (Figure 2).
[PF3] End – will return you to the Main Status panel (Figure 1).
Moving the cursor to an entry under Line Name and pressing a supported functionkey
gives you these additional options:
[PF4] PU_Status – will display the PU Status panel for that line, as described
under "PU Status Panel" later.
[PF6] Config – will display a screen of parameters for that line, and allowyou
to change the values of some parameters.See "Line Configuration
Panel" later.
[PF7] Act – will activate the line.
[PF8] Deact – will de-activate the line.

PU Name – is the PU Name configured in the Cabletron device SNA Port record.
SDLC Actual Status – is the current status (active or inactive) of the PU.
Desired Status – is the Istatus (active or inactive) configured on the PU parameters
screen of the SNA Port record.
POLL ADDR – is the LocalSAPAddress configured on the LLC2 Parameters screen
of theSNA Port record.
LLC2 Actual Status – is the current status (active or inactive) of the LLC2 session.
LANCON Status – is not applicable. (This is from part of the software that is shared
with Netlink's SDLC Link Server.)
MACAddress –is the LocalMAC Address configuredon the LLC2 Parameters screen
of theSNA Port record.
XID – is the ID created from IDBLK and IDNUM in the SNA Port record.

ISTATUS
will cause the line to be enabled (if ACT)ordisabled (if INACT) the next time the node
undergoesIPL. The line will remain in that state until either an on-line port disable or
enableis performed on the Cabletron device (as described in the User Guide) or a
VARYINACT or VARY ACT is sent from the NetVIEW manager.
NRZI is the inverse of the parameter NRZ in the SNA Port record in the Cabletron device.
The setting determines the level of data encoding:
No = NRZ, which means that 1 represents high-level encoding and0 is low-level.
Yes = NRZI, which means that 1 represents no change in leveland 0 is a change.
CLOCK
is equivalent to the Cabletron device parameter Generate Clock, which specifies
whether the port will generate the clock necessary tosynchronize traffic over the link.
INTERNAL = Yes, EXTERNAL = No.
