Welcome
Thank you for using the Ambix activ package.
Your hospital has chosen the Ambix activ pump for you to use. Your nurse will have explained
the information you need to know for your specific treatment and the way you need to set
your pump up.
You can always refer to this booklet which supplements the instructions given to you by your
nurse on how to use your Ambix activ pump.
We have also produced a quick reference guide for the Ambix activ pump.
SERVICING:
If you have any problems whilst using
your Ambix activ pump, you can
troubleshoot the problem by consulting
your user guide. If you are unable to
solve the problem, you can call the

Please see the back of your pump for the
date of your pump’s next service, a few
weeks before this date one of the Calea
Patient Services team will be in touch
with you to co-ordinate the service.

How to prime and load your Ambix activ giving set
PRIMING THE SET MANUALLY:
You will need to prime your Ambix activ giving set slowly.
Close the Ambix activ clamp.
Spike your bag with the Ambix activ giving set and hang up.

Hold the line taught.

Create an ‘S’ shape with the line.
Open the Ambix activ clamp to start priming the line. The blue cap on the end will prevent

any leakages.
Close the Ambix activ clamp when the line is fully primed. Remove the blue cap prior to
connection.

INSTALLING THE SET:
Open the door with the lever.
Match the green mark on the Ambix activ giving set to the green mark on the pump.
(Make sure the foot of the clamp is facing outwards).
Match the blue mark on the Ambix activ giving set to the blue mark on the pump.
Close the door and push the lever back into place.
REMOVING THE SET:
Stop the pump, by pressing STOP/ESC.
To turn off the pump, you need to press
ON/OFF for 3 seconds or more.
The pump will count down 3.2.1. off.
Open the pump door.
Remove the Ambix activ giving set.
Dispose of the set –follow the correct procedure.

How to use your Ambix activ pump
Switch the pump on

to choose from volume over time/continuous/

intermittent/ramp modes. The symbol relating to
the mode you have chosen will display. For specific
modes refer to the relevant pages.
Start the infusion

to retrieve the last volume of fluids infused.

Switch the pump on

Set the target volume. Maximum volume is set at 600ml/h.

Set the application time. The flow rate will calculate automatically.

To set your specific mode - Ramp Mode
This mode is used if you would like your fluids administered continuously, with the flow rate
increasing at the beginning and decreasing at the end, if required.
Switch the pump on

Use the top -/+ buttons to switch between the screens:

Set the total time and “UP” and “DOWN” time by using top -/+ buttons.

This mode is used if you would like your fluids administered continuously.
Switch the pump on

until you get to the following symbol

Hold
to reset for new infusion.

Hold +/- down at the same time, to set target volume.

Set the rate.

To set your specific mode - Intermittent Mode
NOTE:This mode is not suitable for use with parenteral nutrition
This mode is used if you have been instructed to administer your fluids at a calculated rate.
After the dose has been administered the pump stops for a defined period or before delivering
additional doses required. To show the total infusion duration and remaining volume press.

Use the top +/- buttons to switch between the screens:

dose settings (dos, A), interval setting (int, B) and start delay (ds, C).
Set the dose time, interval time

Alarms and Safety Features
When an alarm occurs, the pump will show all symbols (see below).
The affected part will flash to indicate the reason for the alarm.
The alarm symbol will flash and indicate that an occurrence has taken place.
Set Insertion
The set is not inserted correctly.
The wrong set used.
Remedy
Check the positioning.
Clean the clamp.
Use an Ambix activ giving set.
Pump Mechanism Blocked
Contact Calea Patient Services or the helpline.
Downstream Occlusion
The infusion will stop.
Check below the pump for the following:
Kink/blockage/clamps/air particles.
Remedy
Remove the kink/blockages/clamps/air particles.
Upstream Occlusion
The infusion will stop.
Check above the pump for the following:
Kink/blockage/clamps/air particles.
Remedy
Remove the kink/blockages/clamps/air particles.

Alarms and Safety Features
Line Empty
The bag is empty.
The set is not fully primed.
The air sensor area is contaminated.
The infusion will stop.
Remedy
Stop the infusion/Change/Check the bag and Ambix giving set.
Prime the Ambix giving set.
Clean (see cleaning procedures).
Batteries are not charging properly
The pump is plugged in at the mains.
Remedy
Contact Calea Patient Services or the helpline.
Battery is low
From the first alarm you will have 30 minutes of battery power left.
Remedy
Plug the pump into the mains.
Battery is depleted
No external power available.
The infusion will stop.
Remedy
Check the installation in the holder.
Check the contact pins and the pump.
Check the cable and connect to the mains.
Plug into mains to complete or stop infusion.

Alarms and Safety Features
Door Open
The pump door or lever is open.
The pump door is installed incorrectly.
The pump door mechanism is defective.
The infusion will stop.
Remedy
Close the pump door and the lever.
Remove the door and re-hang.
Contact Calea Patient Services or helpline.
Target volume pre-alarm
Only available if the target volume is active.
Remedy
Be aware that there is only 30 minutes left of the infusion
from the first alarm.
Target volume achieved
The infusion will stop.
Preventive maintenance
Perform for maintenance.
Technical Error
Contact Calea Patient Services or helpline.

How to clean your pump
Please make sure that you clean your pump before connecting it to you and it is disconnected
from the mains.
It is very important that you clean your pump
When contamination occurs.
At least once a week.
Once cleaned leave the pump to dry for approximately 5 minutes before using.
WARNING:
DO NOT SUBMERGE THE PUMP IN WATER.
DO NOT USE IN THE DISHWASHER.
Pump and Holder
Clean using a lint-free, damp cloth or a lint-free cloth soaked in disinfectant.
Please dry carefully.
Clean contact pins with cotton wool soaked in disinfectant, if required.
