2.YourTS2-16ataglance
TheTS2-16hasbeendesignedtoprovidehigh-speeddatatransfertoUSBcompliantdevices
withoutbeingconstrainedbyendpointlimits.
TheTS2-16canchargeattachedUSBdeviceswithoutusingalocalcomputer.TheTS2-16allows
almostanydevicetobechargedatitsoptimumrate(upto2.4A).Thefirmwarecanbeupdated
toensuretheTS2-16canchargethelatestdevices.Itisreadytochargeout-of-the-boxandsync
deviceswhenattachedtoahostcomputer.
Whenalocal(host)computerisattached,thehostcancontroltheoperationofeachportusing
softwareprovidedbyCambrionix.Devicechargingandsynchronisationcanbe
monitoredthroughCambrionix’sLiveViewerApplication,theApplicationProgramming
Interface(API)orCommandLineInterface(CLI).Cambrionix’sfreemonitoringandcontrol
softwarecanbedownloadedfromwww.cambrionix.com/products/api
WithyourTS2-16thereisaThunderbolt™connectiontothehostwhich,iscapableofupto
20Gbps,meaningyourupstreamspeedstothehostwillbecapableofthisdatatransferrate.
Theupstreamdatatransferratewillbesharedamongstthedownstream16xUSB2.0Type-A
connections.

Thismanualprovidesareferenceforend-usersinstallingforthefirsttimeandusingtheirhub
afterthat.Aswellasaguideforproductsafety-relatedinformation.
TheTS2-16isintendedtobeusedinanindoorstaticenvironmentinwhichtheenvironment
fallswithinthetestedspecificationstoprovidecharge,syncandmanagementfunctionality.
Pleaseseethephysicalspecificationssectionofthismanualforinformationonthe
environmentspecifications.
4.1.Openingyourproduct
Whenyouhavereceivedyourproduct,pleasecheckthepackingsliptoensureallcontentsand
quantitiesarecorrectbeforeopening.Thisistoavoidretestingandrepackaginganyitemsthat
arenotrequired.

application.Youcanalsofindinformationonmanagingyourhub,changingportmodes,
connectingmultiplehubstoonehostandusingCambrionixSoftware.
5.0.1LEDConfiguration
YourTS2-16hasinbuiltLEDsusedtoshowthestateoftheportsordevices.TheseLEDscanbe
configuredtosupportyourusecase;thiscanbecontrolledeitherbyusingtheAPItosend
commandsdirectlyorthroughseparatesoftware.
ThedefaultLEDbehaviourofthehubisbelow.

5.1.Usingwithoutconnectingtohost
WhentheHubisswitchedonandisnotconnectedtoalocalhostcomputeritis
automaticallyconfiguredtochargedevicesusingitsintelligentchargingalgorithm.Connectthe
devicestobechargedtoanyoftheavailableports(nottheHostPort)using
USB-compliantcables.
Oncethedevicesareconnected,thealgorithmwilldetectthehighestchargerateallowablefor
eachattacheddevice.Chargingattheoptimumrate(upto2.4A)specifiedbythemanufacturer
willcommenceonceprofilingiscomplete.Dependingonthestateofchargeofthedevice
attached,thismaytaketensofseconds.

5.2.1ConnectingtheHubtoahostcomputer
YoucanuseeitherThunderbolt™hostportontherearofthehubtoconnecttoyourhost
system;therearetwoportsontherear,soyoucanuseoneporttoconnectthehostandthe
otherporttodaisychainmultiplehubs.
5.2.2Charging
WhentheHostPortisconnectedtoalocalcomputer,thehubdefaultstoSyncmodeand
chargecurrentsaredeterminedaccordingtoUSBImplementersForum(USBIF)Super-Speed
USB3specifications.IftheattacheddevicecomplieswithUSB-IFBatteryCharging
specificationBC1.2andsupportsChargingDownstreamPort(CDP),thehubcanprovide
high-speedchargingat2.4A.IftheconnecteddevicedoesnotcomplywithBC1.2,thecharge
currentwillbelimitedto500mAincompliancewithUSBspecifications.
Ifyouwishtolimitthechargingtoyourdeviceswhilstconnectedtoyourhostsystemthenyou
candisableCDPonallportsbyinputtingthefollowingcommands.

5.2.3DataTransfer
Ifyouwishtotransferdata,changeapplications,restoreorupdateyourmobiledevice,adata
connectiontoalocalhostcomputerisrequired.ThehubiscompatiblewithmacOS®,
Windows™andLinux®operatingsystemsandcantransferdatabetweentheseoperating
systemsandmanymobileoperatingsystemssuchasiOS™andAndroid™.
Inordertotransferdata,connectthehostporttoyourlocal(host)computerusinga
Thunderbolt™2compliantcable.Anydevicesconnectedtothehubwillnowappearasifthey
wereconnectedtothehostcomputer’sUSBport.

5.3.Scalability
USBcontrollersgenerallyhaveanendpointlimit,limitingthenumberofdevicesthatcanbe
enumeratedwhenconnectedtotheUSB3portofalocalcomputer.USB3portxHCIhost
controllersinmostcomputerslimitthenumberofendpointsenumeratedbetween64and128.
Mobiledevicesenumerateasmorethanoneendpoint,andcomplexdeviceswithtouchpanels
oftenenumerateas5or6endpoints.Consequently,thenumberofdevicesthatcanbe
successfullyenumeratedistypicallylimitedtolessthantwenty.
ByusingThunderbolt™connectivityandincorporatinghostcontrollersinsidethehubeachport
canhandleupto16endpoints.Ifyouwishtosynchronisemoredevices,multiplehubscanbe
daisy-chainedtoallowupto96devicestobemanagedsimultaneouslyfromasinglehost
computer.
Todaisy-chainmultiplehubs,eachhubneedstobeconnectedtomainspowerindividually,
thenthefirsthubinthechainshouldbeconnectedtothelocalcomputerthroughoneofthe
Thunderbolt™ports.Thenexthubinthedaisy-chainisconnectedusingoneofits
Thunderbolt™portstotheremainingThunderbolt™portofthefirsthub.Athird,fourthand
fifthhubcanbeaddedinthesameway,connectingtheavailableThunderbolt™portofthe
previoushubtooneoftheThunderbolt™portsofthenextdeviceinthedaisy-chain.Usingthis
approach,amaximumofsixhubscanbelinkedtogether,allowing96devicestobesyncedfrom
asinglehostcomputer.

portsoffandon,changetheportmode,orchangethechargingprofiles.Thiscanbedone

easyuserexperience,ourLiveViewerapplicationisnowaset-and-forgetsolution.The
LiveViewerapplicationwilldiscoveryourUSBhub’sfirmwareandpresentanupdateforyou.
Toupdatethefirmware,first,gotothefirmwareupdatersectionofLiveViewer.Hereyoucan
seetheavailableFirmwareversionstodownloadandinstalltothehub.Todownloada

firmwarefileclickontheversionunderthe"downloadablefirmwareupdates"section.once
downloadeditwillappearinthe"Availablefirmwarefiles"section.
Thecurrentfirmwareversiononthehubisdisplayedinthefirmwareupdatersectionalongside
thehub'sname.Thiswillappearredifanewerversionisavailableorgreenifitisthemostup
todate.
Toinstallthefirmwareontothehubclickthehub/hubsconnectedthatyouwanttoupdate,
thenselectthefirmwareversionyouwanttoupgradeto.Onceselectedpresstheupdate
buttonatthetopandtheupdatewillcommence.
CAUTION
Your Cambrionix Firmware may get corrupted

5.5.Software
Moreproductivity,savingyoutime.CambrionixprovidesthreeinterfacesbywhichtheHubcan
bemonitoredandmanaged:

•CambrionixAPI
•CommandLineInstructions
TheTS2-16usesstringcommandstocommunicatewiththehostsystem.Thesecanbesentvia
thevirtualserialportoftheTS2-16directly,ortheAPIcanbeusedtoprovideotherprotocols
thatsendtranslatedstringcommands.LiveViewercanusetheAPItointeractwiththedevices
throughauser-friendlyapplication.
TherearethreedifferentchannelsforbothourLiveViewerapplicationandtheAPI.Thethree
channelsareAlpha/BetaandRelease.Wewouldrecommendusingthereleaseversionofboth
theAPIandLiveViewer.
WewillpushbugfixesandupdatesthroughAlphaandthenontoBetabeforeitismergedinto
theReleaseversion.Ifyouhavefoundabugthatwehaveafixfor,theAlphaandBetareleases
mayalreadyhaveaddressedtheseandimplementedfixes.
5.5.1InstallingSoftware
Cambrionixhastwopiecesofsoftwarethatcanbeusedtomanagethedevicesandyourhub
usingdifferenthostsystems.Thissectionhasinstructionsandinformationonusingour
softwareonthreeofthemostpopularhostsystems.
Oursoftwareisavailabletodownloadfromwww.cambrionix.com/software,youwillfind
softwareavailableforWindows™,Mac®andLinux®Systems.
ToinstallonMac®andWindows™systems,downloadtheinstallfilesfromtheabovelink,once
downloadedruntheinstallprocessanddialogueboxeswillhelpyouthroughinstallationand
initialset-up.
ForLinux®systems,downloadtheinstallfilesfromthewebsiteattheabovelink.Once
downloaded,youcaneitherinstallitfromthedesktopGUIorthecommandlinevia:

5.5.2LiveViewer
LiveViewerisanapplicationdownloadedfromwww.cambrionix.com/products/liveviewer.
Oncedownloadedandinstalledonthehostcomputer,LiveViewerallowsyoutoswitchthe
portsonandoff,settheporttochargeonly,orsyncmode.LiveViewer’shomepageshowsthe
followinginformationaboutalltheports:
•Status(Attached/disconnected)
•Mode(Charge/Sync/Off)
•Profile(Chargingprofile)
•Duration(Howlongthedevicehasbeenattached)
•Endtime(Timethebatteryreachesathreshold(full)level)
•Current(QuickchargecurrentinmA)
•Energy(Presentenergyrate)
Tickboxesadjacenttoeachportsymbolallowthatportmodetobechanged.Whentheportis
inSyncmode,onlyinstantaneouscurrentcanbemonitoredthroughLiveViewer.Whentheport
isinChargemode,thechargeprofile,current,energyrate,chargedurationandendtimeare
displayed.Inadditiontoindividualportinformationandcontrol,LiveViewershowsthehubrail
voltages,timesinceswitchedon,totalcurrentandpower,andtemperature.Furtherdetailson
LiveViewerareavailableonourwebsite.
NVRAMsettings
Withinyourhub,therearesomespecificcontrollablesettingscalled"nonevolatile
RAMsettings",whicharereferredtoasNVRAMsettings.Thesecontrolavarietyofdifferent
settingsonyourTS2-16.
YoucannavigatetotheNVRAMsettingsbyopeningLiveViewerandselectingthehubyouwant
toconnectto.Onceyouhavechosentheconnectedhub,navigatetothebelowicononthetop
rightofthescreenfromLiveViewerandclickonadvanced.

Onceyouhavepressedadvancedthiswilltakeyoutotheadvancedsettingspagewhereyou
canviewandchangetheNVRAMsettings,includingrevertingbacktodefaultfactorysettings.

5.5.3CambrionixAPI
CambrionixAPIallowsyoutomonitorandcontroleachportinmoredetailandtointegrate
thesefunctionsintoyourownworkflowprocesses.TheAPIcomprisesadaemonthatcanbe
downloadedfromwww.cambrionix.com/products/apiandinstalledonthehostmachine.Port
informationandcontrolcanbeprovidedthroughtheAPIusingJavaScriptObjectNotation
(JSON)RemoteProcedureCalls(RPC)overTCP.JSON-RPCcallssendarequesttotheAPIto
“Get”port,deviceorHubinformation,or“Set”portfunctions(suchasmode).Alibraryof
samplePythoncodecanbeobtainedfromwww.cambrionix.com/products/apitohelpyou
integratemanyofthesefunctionsintoyourprocessworkflowalongsidethecompleteuser
manual.
5.5.4UpdatingSoftware
ByusingLiveVieweryouwillbeabletoautomaticallydownloadandinstallthemostuptodate
software(LiveViewerandtheCambrionixAPI)
Bygoingintothesettingssectionontheleft-handsideofLiveViewer,youcannavigatetothe
generaltab,andunderthiscanseetheoptionsforkeepingbothLiveViewerandtheAPIupto
date.

prefer,youcanchangetoamanualupdateselection.Youcanalsoselectwhichversionofthe
