IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING.
7
Use this appliance only for its intended purpose as
described in this Owner’s Manual.
■Before it is used, this
refrigerator must be
properly installed and
located in accordance with
the Installation Instructions
in this manual.
■Do not allow children to
climb, stand or hang on the
shelves in the refrigerator.
They could damage the
refrigerator and seriously
injure themselves.
■Never touch cold surfaces in
the freezer compartment
when your hands are damp
or wet. Your skin may stick
to these extremely cold
surfaces.
■Keep fingers out of the
"pinch point" areas between
the doors and between the
doors and cabinet. Be
careful closing doors when
children are in the area.
■If your refrigerator model
has an automatic icemaker,
avoid contact with the
moving parts of the ejector
mechanism or with the
heating element that
releases the ice cubes. Do
not place fingers or hands
on the automatic icemaking
mechanism while the
refrigerator is plugged in.
■When moving your
refrigerator away from the
wall, be careful not to roll
over or damage the power
cord.
■Repair or replace
immediately all electric
service cords that are frayed
or damaged. Never use a
cord that shows cracks or
abrasions, either on the
cord or at the plug or
connector end.
■Never unplug your
refrigerator by pulling on
the power cord. Always grip
plug firmly and pull straight
out from the outlet.
■Unplug the refrigerator
before cleaning and making
repairs.
■Before replacing the
burned-out appliance bulb,
power to the refrigerator
should be disconnected at
the fuse box or circuit
breaker in order to avoid
contact with a live wire
filament which can happen
if the old light bulb breaks
when being unscrewed.
Note:Turning the control to
the "OFF" position does not
remove power to the light
circuit.
■Do not operate your
refrigerator in the presence
of explosive fumes. Do not
store or use gasoline or
other flammable vapours
and liquids in the vicinity of
this or any other appliance.
Note: We strongly
recommend that any
servicing be performed by a
qualified individual.
Safety Precautions
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions
should be followed, including the following:
WARNING!
Operating InstructionsInstallation Instructions Troubleshooting TipsSafety InformationCustomer Service

DANGER!
Risk of Child Entrapment
8
Child entrapment and suffocation are not problems
of the past. Junked or abandoned refrigerators are
still dangerous, even if left "for just a few days". If you
are getting rid of your old refrigerator, please follow
the instructions below to help prevent accidents and
pollution.
Before You Throw Away Your Old Refrigerator
or Freezer:
■Take off the doors.
■Leave the shelves in place so that children may not
easily climb inside.
CFC Disposal
Your old refrigerator may have a cooling system that
used CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons). CFCs are believed
to harm the earth's stratospheric ozone layer. Your
new refrigerator uses a new refrigerant that does not
destroy ozone. If you are throwing away your old
refrigerator, make sure the CFC refrigerant is
removed by a qualified servicer for proper disposal. If
you intentionally release this CFC refrigerant you can
be subject to fines and/or imprisonment under
provisions of environmental legislation respecting
ozone depleting substances.

How to Connect Electricity
Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third
(ground) prong from the power cord. For personal safety,
this appliance must be properly grounded.
The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a 3-prong
(grounding) plug which mates with a standard 3-prong
(grounding) wall outlet to minimize the possibility of electric
shock hazard from this appliance.
Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a qualified electrician
to make sure the outlet is properly grounded.
Where a standard 2-prong wall outlet is encountered, it is your
personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a
properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet.
The refrigerator should always be plugged into its own individual
electrical outlet (115 V-60 Herts, single phase AC) which has a
voltage rating that matches the rating plate.
This provides the best performance and also prevents
overloading house wiring circuits which could cause a fire hazard
from overheated wires.
Never unplug your refrigerator by pulling on the power cord.
Always grip plug firmly and pull straight out from the outlet.
Repair or replace immediately all power cords that have become
frayed or otherwise damaged. Do not use a cord that shows
cracks or abrasion damage along its length or at either end.
When moving the refrigerator away from the wall, be careful not
to roll over or damage the power cord.
WARNING!
Using Extension Cords
Because of potential safety hazards under certain
conditions, we strongly recommend against the use of an
extension cord.
However, if you must use an extension cord, it is absolutely
necessary that it be a CSA or UL listed, 3-wire grounding type
appliance extension cord having grounding type plug and
outlet and that the electrical rating of the cord be 15 amperes
(minimum) and 120 volts.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING.

Preparing to install the refrigerator.
Read these instructions completely and carefully.
Water Supply to the Icemaker
(on some models)
You will need to connect your icemaker to a cold water line. A
water supply kit containing copper tubing, shutoff valve, fitting
and instructions is available at extra cost from your dealer.
There should be sufficient tubing for the icemaker from the
cold water supply to allow moving the refrigerator out from the
wall several feet. (You will need approximately 3 coils of 1/4
inch copper tubing that measures at least 25 cm (10") in
diameter.
Install the refrigerator on a floor strong enough to
support it when it is fully loaded.
Do not install refrigerator where temperature will go
below 16°C/60°F because it will not run often enough to
maintain proper temperatures.
Refrigerator Location
Allow the following minimum clearances for ease of installation
and proper air circulation:
Side…1 1/4 cm (1/2") Top…2 1/2 cm (1") Back*…0 cm (0")
*metal cover on back when touching the wall gives 3.2 cm
(
1 1/4 "
) clearance
If refrigerator is to be installed against a wall on the hinge side,
allow a minimum of 4.5cm (l 3/4") between the wall and the
side of the refrigerator to allow for door and handle clearance.
Clearances
Consider providing a water supply to the refrigerator location. It
will simplify connecting of an optional automatic icemaker
should you wish to install one at a later date.
When Building a New Home
Remove all Packaging tapes and peel-off films. These tapes were
added to secure and protect your refrigerator during transit.

Preparing to install the refrigerator.
Your refrigerator comes with either adjustable rollers or
adjustable legs. Either rollers or legs should be set so the
refrigerator is firmly positioned on the floor and the front is
raised just enough that the doors close easily when opened about
halfway.
To adjust rollers for levelling tilt the base grill out exposing the
adjustment screws. Turn the two front roller adjusting screws
counterclockwise to raise the refrigerator, clockwise to lower it
using an adjustable wrench.
Adjustable legs are located at the front corners. Turn the
adjustable leg clockwise to raise the refrigerator and counter

18
Many refrigerators use special electric heaters. This refrigerator needs
none. That's why there is no "energy-saver" switch...there's no need for it.
Warm liquid from the refrigerator's condenser is automatically
circulated around the front edge of the freezer compartment to help
keep moisture from forming on the outside of the refrigerator during
humid weather. This is why the front edges of the refrigerator cabinet
may feel slightly warm to the touch.
No Defrosting
It is not necessary to defrost the freezer or fresh food compartments.
Although your refrigerator is designed and equipped to defrost itself
automatically, some frost on packages is normal.
Automatic Energy Saver System
Use the milk test for the fresh food compartment. Place a
container of milk on the top shelf and check it a day later. If the
milk is too warm or too cold, adjust the temperature controls.
Use the ice cream test for the freezer compartment. Place a
container of ice cream in the center of the freezer and check it
after a day. If it's too hard or too soft, adjust the temperature
controls.
After changing the controls, allow 24 hours for the refrigerator to reach the
temperature you have set.
How To Test Temperatures
The type of packaging used and the storage temperatures will
affect how long food will keep in the refrigerator.
New food storage guidelines are constantly being developed.
Please refer to chart on page 32.

Operating Instructions

• Location of your refrigerator is important. Try not to locate it next to
your range, a heating vent or where the sun will shine directly on it.
• Don't open doors more often than necessary.
• Close the doors as soon as possible, particularly in hot, humid weather.
• Be sure the doors are closed tightly. Before leaving the house or retiring
for the night, check to be sure the doors haven't been left ajar
inadvertently.
• Store only those foods requiring refrigeration in your refrigerator.
• Allow warm or hot foods to cool before placing them in your
refrigerator.
• Wipe all moisture from bottles and cartons before putting them in the
refrigerator.
• Keep all foods covered to reduce moisture build-up inside the
refrigerator.
• Don't waste ice cubes by letting many melt while using only a few.
• If you turn the control to coldest position for quick chilling or freezing,
be sure to turn it back to normal setting.
• Don't overcrowd your refrigerator. Overcrowding can require extra
electrical energy to keep everything cool.
• Your refrigerator must have sufficient clearances from surrounding
cabinets to ensure proper air circulation.
• Keep condenser clean.

All about refrigerator shelves, storage drawers
& features
Not all features are on all models.
Shelves
In the fresh food compartment are adjustable shelves
to suit your needs. To remove shelves, tilt shelf up at
front (1), then lift it up and out of tracks on rear wall
of refrigerator (2).
To replace shelves, select desired shelf height. Raise
shelf front slightly, engage top lugs in tracks at rear of
cabinet. Then lower front of shelf until it locks into
position. Wire, tempered glass and spill proof shelves
are adjustable in the same manner.
Adjustable Door Bins
Adjustable Storage Bins on the Doors (on some
models) - Adjustable storage bins on fresh food
compartment doors can easily be carried from the
refrigerator to the work area. To remove, simply lift
the front edge of the storage bin and gently slide the
bin forward on molded supports until it comes
completely out of the door.
Fruit and Vegetable Drawers
These storage drawers at the bottom of the fresh food
compartment are designed to provide HIGH
humidity levels required by most vegetables and
LOWER humidity levels required for most fruits.
Make sure drawers are tightly closed when not in use.
Excess water that may accumulate in the bottom of
the drawers should be emptied and the drawers
wiped dry.
