ReplacementSteam Canistersare available fromyourinstalling
contractor.Useonly genuinereplacementpart number8045HUM.
TheSteamHumidifierdelivershumidityin theformof steamto the
conditionedspaceviathe HVACsystemduct.Thehumidifiergenerates
steambyenergizingtwo electrodesthat extendintoacanisterof water.
Currentflowing betweentheelectrodescausesthewater to boil,creating
steam.Water is introducedto the humidifierthrougha fill valveto a fill
cuplocatedinthetop ofthecabinet.Thefill cupservesasanoverflow
reservoirandprovidesanair gapbetweenthehumidifierandwater
source.Thesteamcanisterisfilled fromthe bottom.Thecanisteris seated
in a draincupassemblywhich includesa drainvalve.Thedrainandfill
valvesworktogetherto maintainwater levelinthe canistertodeliverthe
ratedsteamcapacitybasedon theelectricalconductivityofthewater and
totemperdrainwater.SeeFigure1 for representationoffill anddrain
systemandcanister.
Steamisdeliveredintothe airstreamthroughadispersiontubemounted
in the HVACsystemductwork.Openingsin thedispersiontubearefitted
with "tubelets"whichextendintothe centerofthetube.Thedesignof the
dispersiontubeandtubeletsdistributesteamovera wideareain the duct
anddirectanycondensedmoisturebackintothesteamhose.

Whenthe HumidifierControldetectshumiditybelowtheset point,
andprovidedthe humidifieristurnedonandtheindoorunitbloweris
operating,theinternalcontrollerinthehumidifierenergizestheelectrodes
andmeasuresthecurrentflowing throughthewater betweenthem.The
controlleradjustswater levelinthe canisterviaa fill valveanda drain
valveto maintaina constantcurrent.Theoperatingwater levelinthe
canisterdependsonthe mineralcontentof thewater whichdetermines
conductivity.
A relayis providedwith the humidifierthat will allow thecontrolto turn
onthe indoorunitblowerwhena callis madefor humidity.

YourSteamHumidifiercanbeinstalledtooperateon120volts,208volts
or240voltsusing11.5or16.0amps.Thehigherthevoltageandamperage
thehigherthepotentialoutput.

it may take several daysfor the humidifiertoreach rated capacity
depending on the input voltageand the electrical conductivityof
thewater, 120volt systemstake longerto reachratedcapacitythan240
volt systems.Thehumidifiershouldalwaysbe plumbedto coldwater but
thewater canbesoftenedor unsoftened."Hard"water,which hasa high
mineralcontent,andsoftenedwater generallyhashigherconductivitythan
naturallysoftwater.Systemsplumbedto higherconductivitywaterwill
reachcapacitysoonerthansystemsplumbedto lowconductivitywater.As
thehumidifieroperates,mineralsbuild upinthe canister,which increases
theconductivityofthe water.With a new canister,allowingthe humidifier
to operatecontinuously(alongwith theindoorunitblower)will allow it to
reachratedcapacityin theshortestamountoftime.
Whenthe humidifierispoweredandturnedon,the"On/Off" light is
illuminatedgreen.
Whenthecanisterisbeingfilled or replenishedwith water,the"Fill" light
illuminatesgreen.
Whenthecanisterisbeingdrained,the "Drain" lightilluminatesgreen.
Duringinitialstart upwith a newcanister,the humidifiermayrunthrough
a seriesoffill/drain cyclesuntiltheconductivityof thewater isin a range
thatallowsnormaloperation.Duringthistime,the"Steam"lightilluminates
green.If thehumidifiercannotproducesteamat theratedlevelaftertrying
for 168hours,the"Steam"lightilluminatesyellow.Thehumidifiercontinues
tooperateinthis stateuntilthe ratedoutputis reached.
Theconductivityofnaturallysoftwater, hardwater, andsoftenedwater
changesasthewater heatsup,butthe internalcontrolleradjuststhe
water levelto maintaina nominalcurrentbetweentheelectrodes.Over
the lifeof thecanister,mineralsthat builduponthe electrodeswill reduce
theireffectivesurfaceareaandaffecttheresistancebetweenthem.The
operatingwater levelwill increasewith useuntilit reachesthe highwater
levelprobe.Atthat point,the "Service"lightwill flashredindicatingthat
thecanisterneedsto be replaced.Thehumidifierwill continueto operate
butwith reducedoutput.
Whenthe humidifierbeginsa draincycle,thefill valveopensto introduce
coldwater intothecanister.Thisis doneto preventhotwater from
enteringthedrain.Thedrainvalveremainsopenforfourminutesto allow
all water to drainfromthe canister.
Anytime poweris disconnectedor humidifieristurnedoff,the internal
timerfor start-upanddraincyclesis reset.
Ifthe humidifierhasoperated168hourswithout a draincycle,the drain
valvewill openanddrainthe canister.Normaloperationwill continue.
Ifthehumidifierisoperatinganda powerfailure occurs,oncepower
is restored,the"On/Off" lightwill flash greenfor oneminute,thenthe
humidifierwill turnon.
Ifthehumidifierdoesnotreceivea call to operatein72 hours,the
humidifiercontrollerdrainsthecanister.Thedrainlightwill remainonuntil
thereisa humiditycallor 24hourshaselapsed.Thehumidifierwill resume
normaloperationwhena callfor humidityismade.

providedthe indoorunitblowerison.If thebloweractivationrelayis
installed,a callforhumiditywill turn onthe indoorunitblower.
It isimportantto anticipatechangesin outdoortemperatureandadjust
thesettingaccordinglyto avoidexcessivecondensationwhenoutdoor
temperatureis low. Forexample,with anoutdoortemperatureof 20°Fthe
correctsettingwill be35%.If thetemperatureisexpectedto fall to O°F
that evening,thenmerelyreducethesettingto 25%severalhourspriorto
thetemperaturechange.
SeeTable2 for therecommendedsettings.Thesesettings,which are
basedonyearsof research,representa compromisebetweenhumidity
levelsthat wouldbemostdesirablefor comfortandhumiditylevelsthat
aresuitablefor protectionofyourhomeandtoavoidcondensationon
yourwindows. Forexample,a wintertimeindoorhumidityof 50%maybe
consideredidealfor comfort,butunfortunately,it probablywould result
in condensation,whichcancausedamageto yourhome.Observingthe
recommendedhumiditylevelsonyourHumidifierControlisan important
safeguard.Condensationofwater onthe insidesurfaceof windowsin
theformof foggingorfrost isusuallyanindicationoftoo muchhumidity.
Thissamecondensationcanoccurin otherareasin yourhome,possibly
resultingin damage.

TurnthecontrolknobtothemaximumRHsetting.Makesurethatthe
watersaddlevalveisopenandthatthehumidifierison.Theindoorunit
blowermustberunningforthehumidifiertofunction.Oncehumidifier
operationisverified,reducetheHumidifierControlsettingtothe
recommendedinsidehumidity,dependingontheoutsidetemperature.
If usingthe automatichumidifiercontrolmodelnumber
KUAWC0101CACor KUAWC0101BRY,DONOT LEAVEiN TEST
MODEASHUMIDIFIERWILL NOTOPERATE.
Besureto keepfireplacedampersclosedwhennotin use.Theyprovide
anexcellentescaperouteforheat,aswell ashumidity.
Onoccasion,indoormoistureproducingactivitiessuchasclothesdrying,
cooking,showers,etc.,mayraisethehumiditylevelhigherthanit should
be,eventhoughthe humidifieris notoperating.Telltaleindicationsare
condensationorfroston coldsurfacessuchaswindows,doors,walls,
etc.If suchcondensationpersistsforseveralhours,your homeshouldbe
ventilatedto dissipatethepotentiallydamagingexcessmoisture.
NOTE:Themanufacturerofthe devicerecommendsthat servicebe
performedonlybya qualifiedtechnician.Contactyourinstallingcontractor
forservice.SeeCautionsandWarningson pages2 and3 priorto
attemptingtheseprocedures.
Turnhumidifieroff and allow humidifierto drain.Disconnect
power before servicing.
InspectHumidifieratapproximately500hourintervalsor severaltimes
duringthe humidificationseason.
• Checksystemoperationand inspectall plumbingconnectionsand piping
for signsof cracksor leaks.
• Inspectdrainlineto makesureit isnotblockedandhasconstant
downwardslope.Cleanor replaceif necessary.
• Inspectsteamhoseto makesureit hasnolow spotsandhasconstant
upwardslopefromhumidifierto dispersiontubein duct.If dispersion
tubeis mountedbelowhumidifier,inspectdriptee drain.
Replacethecanisterannuallyandwhenpromptedbythe"Service"light.
Useonlygenuinereplacementpartnumber8045HUM.
1. PressOn/Offswitchtoturnhumidifieroff.Humidifierwill drainforfour
minutes.
2. Allowhumidifiertodrain.Whenthegreen"drain"LEDstopsflashing,
disconnectmainelectricalpowerto humidifier.
3. Removefront panel.
4. Pullthreewiresoff postsontopofcanister.(Twolargeelectrode
conductorsandonewater levelprobeconductor.)
5. Loosenhoseclampattopofcanister.
6. Slidehoseoff topofcanister.
7. Slidecanisterupandoutofdrainassembly.Discardcanister.
8. Removeo-ringfromdrainassemblyusingsmallscrewdriver.
g. Inspectdrainassemblyandremoveanydebris.Seedrainvalvecleaning
procedurein Installation& Maintenancemanual.
10.Insertnewo-ringintoslot in drainassembly.(O-ringis providedwith
canister.)Dampeno-ringwith waterbeforeinsertingcanister.Donotuse
oil,grease,or anylubricantbesideswater.
11.Makesurestrainerisinsertedintobottomofnewcanister.
12.Insertcanisterintodrainassembly.Positioncanisterwith labelfacing
