Safety Precautions
■Check with your doctor before starting an exercise program.
If you have not been active for a long time or if you are currently under
the care of a physician, check with your doctor before starting any
program that involves strenuous activity. Should you ever start feeling
weak or abnormal while exercising, stop immediately or reduce your
pace.
■Remove the ear clip if hurts your ear.
The Pulse Monitor monitors your pulse using an ear clip that you clip
onto your earlobe. You may experience swelling of the earlobe if you
wear the ear clip for a very long time or if you have thick earlobes.
Should you ever experience pain or discomfort in your earlobe while
wearing the ear clip, immediately remove it.
■Never wear the Pulse Monitor while operating a motor vehicle.
Wearing the Pulse Monitor while operating an automobile, motorcycle, or
other motor vehicle creates the risk of accident.
■Do not wear the Pulse Monitor during a lightening storm.
Wearing the Pulse Monitor outdoors while there is lightening in the area
creates the risk of electric shock. Take off the Pulse Monitor immediately
if you notice lightening.
■Do not set the volume so high that you cannot hear sounds
around you.
Using a volume level that is too high while walking can interfere with
your hearing normal sounds around you. Also, be sure to remove the
Pulse Monitor when approaching a railroad crossing, a construction site,
and any other area where you need to be cautious of what is going on
around you.
■Be careful with battery fluid.
•Touching battery fluid leaking from a battery creates the risk of loss of
eyesight, personal injury, and skin inflammation.
•Should battery fluid ever get into your eyes, immediately flush with
clean water and contact your physician.
•Should battery fluid ever get onto your skin or clothing, immediately
rinse the area with clean water.
■Securely tighten the battery cover screws.
After replacing the battery, make sure that you securely tighten the two
screws that secure the battery cover. A loose battery cover can allow
water to get inside of the Pulse Monitor, and can cause battery fluid to
escape should the battery ever leak.
■Guard against hearing damage.
Take care to avoid listening to output from the earpieces for long periods
at high volume, which can adversely affect your hearing.
■Keep the earpieces away from objects that can be affected by
magnetism.
Keep the earpieces away from credit cards, ATM cards, and any other
items that have a magnetic strip. Magnets in the earpieces can affect the
data recorded on a magnetic strip.
■Never try to take the Pulse Monitor apart.
Trying to take the Pulse Monitor apart creates the risk of personal injury
and product malfunction.
■Battery Precautions
•Miss-handling of a battery can cause it to leak, which can soil and
damage the area around the battery, leading to the risk of fire and
personal injury. Be sure to observe the following important battery
handling precautions.
•Make sure that the positive (+) and negative (–) ends of the battery
are facing correctly when you load it into the Pulse Monitor.
•Remove the battery from the Pulse Monitor if you do not plan to
use it for a long time.
•Use only the type of battery specifically recommended for the
Pulse Monitor.
•Keep all batteries out of the reach of small children. If a battery is
accidentally swallowed, contact a physician immediately.
•When replacing the battery, take care that no foreign objects get
inside of the battery compartment. Foreign objects create the risk of
fire and electric shock.
•Removing or loading the battery can damage long fingernails. Take
care when removing or loading batteries.

Operating Precautions
■This Pulse Monitor is not a precision medical instrument!
Note that this Pulse Monitor is intended for use as an exercise tool only.
It is not a precision medical instrument.
■Types of exercise
The Pulse Monitor is designed for use while walking. Strong impact and
vibration during running can make it impossible for the sensor to
correctly monitor your pulse.
■Use in cold weather
The Pulse Monitor detects the movement of blood in your earlobes to
determine your pulse rate. Very cold temperatures can cause poor blood
flow to your earlobes. When it is cold, massage your ears to stimulate
blood flow before attaching the clip.
■Ear clip position
The best position to wear the ear clip differs from person-to-person. If
you experience problems with getting a good pulse reading, try changing
the position of the ear clip on your ear until you find the best one.
■Removing the ear clip
When removing the ear clip from your earlobe, make sure you squeeze
the clip so it opens. Never pull on the wire to remove the ear clip. Doing
so can damage the wire.
■Pierced ears and earrings
Remove earrings before attaching the ear clip. If you have pierced ears,
avoid attaching the ear clip in the vicinity of an earring hole. Also, take
care that there is no hair between the ear clip surfaces and your earlobe.
This can cause incorrect measurement results.
■Use in the rain
Avoid using the Pulse Monitor in the rain. Exposure to water creates the
risk of malfunction.
■Storing the Pulse Monitor
Never store the Pulse Monitor where excessive force or pressure will be
applied to its arms. Such conditions can cause deformation of and
damage to the arms.
■Low battery indicator
Replace the battery as soon as possible after the low battery indicator
() appears.
■Care of the Pulse Monitor
Should the Pulse Monitor become dirty, wipe with a soft, dry cloth, or
with a cloth moistened in a solution of water and a mild neutral
detergent. Never use thinner, benzene, or other chemical, or any agent
that contains alcohol.
■Precautions when handling the arms
The arms of the Pulse Monitor are foldable.
Never apply undue force when folding or
unfolding the arms. Be especially careful
that you do not try to force the arms wider
than they are designed to unfold normally.
Applying too much force when folding or
unfolding the arms can damage them.

Important!
•You need to configure personal information (weight, age, etc.) before
using the Pulse Monitor to perform pulse measurements. See
“Configuring Settings”.
•The Pulse Monitor takes some time to detect your pulse after you start
a measurement operation. During this time, the voice error message
“Check ear clip.”will sound through the earpieces if you press the
PULSE button. Leave the ear clip attached to your ear and allow the
pulse rate measurement to stabilize. The voice message should
change to a Voice Exercise Advice announcement of your current
pulse level after a short while.
•You will not be able to perform measurements if the low battery

Using Auto Scan
With Auto Scan, the radio scans frequencies and automatically stops at
the first receivable frequency that it finds.
•If you have problems finding a receivable frequency with Auto Scan, it
could mean that reception is poor at your current location. Try moving
to a different location and perform Auto Scan again.
To use Auto Scan
1. While the radio is turned on, hold down the TUNE button to select
Auto Scan.
2. Press the TUNE button.
•This causes the radio to scan
frequencies and stop at the first
receivable one it finds.
•If the radio cannot find a receivable
frequency, it will continue to scan
without stopping. Press the TUNE
button again to stop scanning.
3. To continue scanning from the current frequency, press the TUNE
button again.
Using Memory Tuning
Memory Tuning lets you register up to five frequencies in frequency
memory for quick and easy tuning. You can perform the following
procedure while Auto Scan or Memory Tuning is selected as the tuning
mode.
To register a frequency
1.
While the radio is turned on, hold down
the RADIO button for about two seconds.
•This displays the screen for the
currently selected frequency memory,
with the memory number and
frequency flashing on the display. This
is the frequency registration screen.
2. Press the MODE/SELECT button to cycle through frequency memory
screens in numeric sequence (
1through 5).
3. When the screen of the memory whose frequency you want to
change is displayed, use the +(increase) and –(decrease) buttons to
tune in the frequency you want.
•Each press of +or –changes the displayed frequency by 0.1MHz.
•Holding down either button changes the frequency at high speed.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to register other frequencies, if you want.
5. After registering all the frequencies you want, press the RADIO
button to exit the frequency registration screen.
Note
•The Pulse Monitor will automatically exit the frequency registration
screen if you leave it on the display for two or three minutes without
performing any button operation.

Check this:
첸
Is the ear clip attached to your earlobe?
Attach the ear clip securely to your ear.
첸
Is the ear clip positioned correctly?
Change the position of the ear clip on
your earlobe.
첸
Is it very cold?
Massage your ears to stimulate blood
flow.
첸
Is the ear clip connected?
Make sure the ear clip connection is
secure.
첸
Is the wire or ear clip damaged?
Replace the ear clip with a new one.
첸
Is the measured pulse within the
measurable range?
Keep your pulse rate within the range of
30 to 199 beats per minute.
첸
Is the ear clip attached securely to your
ear?
A loose or improperly fastened ear clip
can allow strong light to interfere with
proper pulse measurement. Make sure
the ear clip is attached correctly and
securely.
첸
Are you in an area where there is electrical
noise?
Strong electrical noise can cause pulse
rate measurement errors. Avoid such
areas where electrical noise is being
generated.
첸
Is your exercise causing severe vibration?
The Pulse Monitor is designed for use
while walking. Strong impact and vibration
while running can make it impossible for
the sensor to correctly monitor your pulse.
첸
Are you exercising at a sufficiently high
intensity?
The energy consumption and fat burned
values produced by the Pulse Monitor will
not change unless you achieve a pulse
rate of at least 90 beats per minute. Try
walking faster to increase your pulse rate.
첸
Are your personal information settings
correct?
Proper measurement readings are not
possible unless your personal information
settings are correct. Check your settings
and make any changes that are
necessary.
첸
Are you exercising at an intensity that keeps
your pulse within the target pulse range?
Try to keep the intensity of your exercise
at a level that keeps you within your target
pulse range.
첸
Is an elapsed time operation in progress?
Measurement memory contents cannot
be displayed while the stopwatch is
performing an elapsed time operation.
Stop the elapsed time operation before
trying to view measurement memory
contents.
Important!
•Resetting the stopwatch to all zeros will
clear measurement memory contents.
