1. DO’S
GENERAL
Always read the instruction manual carefully and follow all recommendations. This
manual must be provided to the rescuer. Only Checkmate genuine parts are
permitted for the repair or service of this winch. Keep this manual with the device at
all times, and never discard this manual. If used in the hire industry and there are any
concerns with the use of this device, always seek clarification from the Checkmate
reseller. Copies of this manual are downloadable from www.checkmateuk.com.
INSTALLATION
The Checkmate WG-01 should always be installed by a competent and trained person.
You should always ensure a complete risk assessment and method statement is
carried out and recorded and suitable rescue planning is considered if being used in
conjunction with Fall Protection equipment.
COMPATIBILITY
When making connections with WG-01, eliminate all possibility of roll-out. Roll-out
occurs when interference between a hook and the attachment point causes the hook
gate to unintentionally open and release. All connections must be selected and
deemed compatible with WG-01 by a Competent Person. All connector gates must be
self-closing and self-locking, and withstand minimum loads of 3,600 lbs. See the
following for examples of compatible/incompatible connections:

ANCHORAGE REQUIREMENTS
As stated in ANSI Z359.4:2007 Section 7.2.2 to 7.2.4; “Anchorages selected for
rescue systems shall have a strength capable of sustaining static loads, applied in the
directions permitted by the rescue system of at least 3,100lbs (13.7kN) for
connection of rescue system only, or meet a Factor of Safety of 5:1 based on the
static load placed on the system when the system is designed, installed and used
under the supervision of a qualified person. Persons engaged in rescue operations
that are exposed to a fall hazard, must be provided an anchorage suitable for fall
arrest. Anchorage connectors shall not be attached to anchorages where such
attachment would reduce the anchorage system strength or reduce the anchorage
strength below the allowable level set by the applicable structural codes. A suitable
anchorage connector shall be used for rigging the connection of lanyards and lifeline
to structural members. A lanyard shall not be connected back onto itself for use as
an anchorage connector unless designed for this purpose. Anchorage connections
shall be stabilized to prevent unwanted movement or disengagement of the rescue
system from the anchorage. Verify system connections by pre-tensioning the system
before applying the intended load.”
USE
The WG-01 is a worm gear winch used for raising and lowering. Ensure the load is
connected and secured, check gates on hooks, karabiners or any other connection
method are closed and tightened. Always consider the loads centre of gravity and do
not snatch lift at any time. Check for obstructions and ensure area around the load is
clear. Raising and lowering of the load should be smooth and raised to an adequate
height to ensure the load is clear of obstructions. Only lower load on to level and
sound surfaces. If the device and equipment is being used outside always observe the
weather conditions. Ice and cold can increase the risk of brake icing, and your hand
could easily slip off the handle.
Always check the device is holding the load when the handle is released by performing
a test lift raised only a few cm’s off the ground. If the handle rotates when released
STOP, lower the load, and remove the device from service.
If the equipment has been subjected to the forces of arresting a fall or affecting a
rescue, the rescuer must immediately remove it from field service when safe to do so,
for inspection, repair or replacement.
