motor-generator unit continues to spin along with
the engine. This provides smooth take-off power
when you want to speed up again.
• The engine automatically shuts off when the car
is stopped, while the lithium-ion battery continues
to power accessories such as climate control and
infotainment systems. When you need to release the
brake pedal, restarting is immediate and seamless.
• Energy stored in the lithium-ion battery delivers up

POWERHOUSE OF INGENUITY Impala Eco features a
182-horsepower ECOTEC® 2.4L 4-cylinder engine with
eAssist. This patented technology helps Impala Eco
deliver outstanding fuel efficiency in a full-size car. By
adding a 115-volt lithium-ion battery and replacing the
traditional alternator with a 15-kW motor-generator
unit, Impala Eco offers an EPA-estimated 25 MPG city/
36 highway.
HOW IT WORKS Put simply, eAssist uses captured
energy to assist the powertrain — and help save fuel.
Here are some details.
• Regenerative braking captures energy normally
lost during braking or when coasting off-throttle
and converts it into electricity to charge the lithium-
ion battery.
