1 About these operating
instructions
These operating instructions apply to
the Cheyenne Power Units PUI and PUII
and to their accessories. They contain
important information about how to
operate and maintain these products
safely and in the intended manner.
These operating instructions do not
contain all of the information needed
for safe operation of tattooing machines
and their accessories. Note the following
additional documents:
Tattoo machine operating instructions
Information about safety cartridges and
tattoo inks
Safety data sheets about disinfectants
and cleaning agents
Health and safety information and
statutory provisions relating to tattooing

2 Important safety
notices
2.1 General safety information
!Read these operating instructions care-
fully and completely.
!Keep these operating instructions in
areadily accessible location for every-
one who uses, cleans, disinfects, ster-
ilizes, stores or transports the Power
Unit.
!When handing the Power Unit on to
another person, always enclose these
operating instructions.
!Use the Power Unit, its accessories and
the power unit as well as all connecting
cables in perfect technical condition.
!Only use accessory and spare parts
from Cheyenne and do not use plug-in
power supply units from third-party
manufacturers.
2.2 Product-dependent safety
information
!Never modify the Power Unit, the power
supply plug or other accessories.
!Prevent fluids from entering the Power
Unit and the power supply plug.
!Protect the Power Unit with a plastic
sheet during the tattooing.
!Disconnect the voltage supply when the
Power Unit is not in use.
!Route all cables so that they cannot
kink.
!Observe the technical data (chapter4.2
on page 22) and observe the operating
conditions (chapter 4.3 on page 22)
and transport and storage conditions
(chapter 8 on page 27).
!Hand over the Power Unit to a specialist
retailer for inspection if it exhibits any
external signs of damage or if it does
not function in the usual manner.
2.3 Important hygiene and safety
regulations
!Before use, follow the steps required to
disinfect the Power Unit (see chapter6.1
on page 24).
!Check regularly to determine whether
there is visible soiling of the Power Unit.
If this has happened, in addition to regular
disinfection, you must perform all the
steps described in chapter “7 Cleaning
and maintaining thePower Unit” on
page26.
2.4 Required qualification
The Power Unit may only be used by
people who have acquired the following
knowledge:
Basic knowledge of the tattooing pro-
cess, in particular correct insertion
depth and frequency
Knowledge of the hygiene and safety
regulations (see chapter 2.3)
2.5 Intended use
The Power Unit is a digital control unit for
tattooing machines for the application of
tattoos to the human skin in dry, clean
and smoke-free environments, and under
hygienic conditions. It is optimized for
use with the Cheyenne HAWK series of
tattooing machines.
The Power Unit must be prepared, used
and maintained in the manner described
in these operating instructions. In partic-
ular, the applicable provisions for work-
place layout must be observed.
Intended use also includes thoroughly
reading and understanding these operat-
ing instructions, in particular the chapter
“2 Important safety
notices”.

Unintended use is defined as using the
Power Unit or its accessories in a way not
described in these operating instructions,
or failing to comply with its operating
conditions.

4 Power Unit product
information
The Cheyenne Power Units enable the
voltage supply of tattooing machines and
a simple control of the piercing frequency
during tattoo application.
Individual tattooing machines can be
connected to PU I and two tattooing
machines can be connected to PU II. The
tattoo artist can quickly and conveniently
switch back and forth between two
tattooing machines.

5 Preparing the Power Unit for
use
ATTENTION
Damage from condensate
If the Power Unit is exposed to significant
variation in temperature, e.g. during
transport, condensate can form inside
which can damage the electronics.
!Ensure that the Power Unit has
reached ambient temperature before
using it. If the Power Unit was exposed
to high temperature fluctuations, wait
for at least 3 hours for every 10°C of
temperature dierence before putting
it into operation.
!Only use the Power Unit at ambient
temperatures of +10 to +35°C
(+50 to +95°F).
CAUTION
Cables constitute a trip hazard
People can stumble over inappropriately
routed cables and get injured.
!Route all cables so that no-one can
stumble over them or pull them
accidentally.
5.1 Setting up the power unit
!Position the Power Unit on a clean,
stable and level surface.
5.2 Connecting the power supply plug
In order to establish the voltage supply:
!Insert the supplied, country-specific
adapter in the recess in the power
supply plug as illustrated below.
!Press in the adapter until it audible
engages.
!Plug the DC plug of the
power supply plug into the
jack for the mains adapter.
!Plug the power supply plug into the
mains adapter jack.
The Standby LED illuminates.
5.3 Connecting the optional foot
switch
!Plug the cinch plug of the
optional foot switch into the
jack for the foot switch.
5.4 Switching on the power unit
CAUTION
Risk of injury due to uncontrolled start-
up of the tattooing machine
If the Power Unit is switch on, uncon-
trolled start-up of connected tattooing
machines is possible, which can cause
the machine to fall or cause personal
injury.
!Only connect the tattooing machine
after the Power Unit is switched on .
!Ensure that a tattooing machine is not
connected to the Power Unit.
Switching on PU I:
!Press the ON button.
The preset piercing frequency of
110 pierces per second appears
on the display. The Power LED illumi-
nates.

Switching on PU II:
!Switch the On/Oswitch to the
"I" position.
The preset piercing frequency of
110pierces per second appears on the
display.
5.5 Connecting the tattooing machine
!Ensure that Power Unit is switched on.
PUI:
!Plug the jack plug of the
connectingcablefor tattooing
machine completely into the
jack for the tattooing machine.
PUII:
!Plug the jack plug of the connect-
ing cable for tattooing machine 1
completely into the jack for the tattooing
machine 1.
!To alternate between two tattoo-
ing machines, plug the jack plug
of the connecting cable for tattooing
machine 2 completely into the jack for
the tattooing machine2.
6 Using the Power Unit
6.1 Disinfecting the Power Unit
ATTENTION
Damage caused by fluid
If cleansers or disinfectants enter the
Power Unit of the power supply plug or
their jacks or plugs, a short-circuit can
occur.
!Never immerse the Power Unit or
power supply plug in cleansers or
disinfectants.
ATTENTION
Product damage caused by
non-approved disinfectants
Disinfectants that are not compatible
with the materials of the Power Unit can
damage its surface.
!Always use disinfectants that are ap-
proved, i.e. that comply with stipula-
tions in your country.
!Observe and check to ensure material
compatibility (see chapter 7.1 on page 26).
!Disconnect the Power Unit from the
voltage supply by pulling the power
supply plug out of the socket.
!Check to determine whether there is
visible soiling of the Power Unit. In such
cases, perform the steps described in
chapter “7 Cleaning and maintaining
thePower Unit” on page26.
!Wipe down the Power Unit, the power
supply plug and the connecting cable
with a soft cloth moistened with disin-
fectant.
!Cover the Power Unit with a plastic
sheet.
6.2 Setting the piercing frequency
CAUTION
Risk of injury due to high piercing
frequency
If the piercing frequency is too high, the
skin can be cut.
!Always start at a low piercing frequen-
cy, e.g. 70.
!Please observe that the piercing
frequencymust suit the characteristics
of the customer's skin, the needle
protrusion and the individual piercing
depth when working, as well as the
operating speed.

The preset piercing frequency is
110pierces per second. The Power Unit
is automatically reset to this presetting
each time it is switched on.
!Adjust a suitable piercing frequency by
pressing the or arrow button.
The piercing frequency can be adjusted
in 10 increments from 60 to 160 pierces
per second.
6.3 Starting or stopping the tattooing
machine
CAUTION
Risk of injury when operating
the tattooing machine
If an unsecured tattooing machine is
started, uncontrolled movement can
occur due to vibrations, which can cause
the machine to fall or cause personal
injury.
!Hold the tattooing machine before you
start it or place it in a suitable holder.
To start the tattooing machine:
!Ensure that the voltage supply is
connected (see chapter 5.2 on page 23).
!Ensure that Power Unit is switched on
(see chapter 5.4 on page 23).
!Ensure that the tattooing machine is
connected correctly (see chapter 5.5 on
page 24).
!Only PUII: Ensure that desired tattooing
machine is activated.
After switching on PU II, Tattooing
machine 1 is activated automatically.
To activate Tattooing machine 2, refer to
chapter 6.4 on page 25.
!Press the Start/Pause button
on the Power Unit to start the
tattooing machine.
The Operating LED illuminates.
If the connected tattooing machine does
not start:
!Observe chapter “10.1 Risk of injury
when lifting the tattooing machine” on
page27.
To stop the tattooing machine:
!Press the Start/Pause button
again.
Alternatively, you can start and stop the
tattooing machine with the optional foot
switch:
!Step on the foot switch to start or stop
the tattooing machine.
The foot switch can also be used
in combination with
the Start/Pause button.
6.4 Switching back and forth between
two tattooing machines (only PU II).
CAUTION
Risk of injury when switching over
If an unsecured tattooing machine is
started, uncontrolled movement can
occur due to vibrations, which can cause
the machine to fall or cause personal
injury.
!Before switching over to the other
machine, switch othe tattooing
machine or stop it by pressing the
Start/Pause button.
!Hold the tattooing machine before you
start it or place it in a suitable holder.
It is only possible to use two tattooing
machines alternately on PU II.
!Stop the tattooing machine by
pressing the Start/Pause button.
!Press button 1or 2to activate the
respective tattooing machine.
!Firmly hold the tattooing machine
that you would like to start.
!Start the activated tattooing
machine by pressing
the Start/Pause button.

6.5 Switching othe power unit
Switching oPU I:
!Press the OFF button.
The display and Power LED go
out.
Switching oPU II:
!Switch the On/Oswitch to the
"O" position.
The display goes out.
7 Cleaning and maintaining
thePower Unit
CAUTION
Risk of short circuits and risk of mild
electric shocks
If the Power Unit is cleaned while the
voltage is connected, there is a risk of
minor electric shock and electronic
damage to the Power Unit or power
supply plug.
!Disconnect the Power Unit from the
voltage supply before all cleaning and
service work.
ATTENTION
Damage caused by fluid
If cleansers or disinfectants enter the
Power Unit of the power supply plug,
a short-circuit can occur. The electrical
and mechanical components can also
corrode.
!Never immerse the Power Unit or
power supply plug in cleansers or dis-
infectants.
!Never run Power Unit or power supply
plug in autoclaves or ultrasonic baths.
!Pay attention to compatibility of mate-
rials when selecting cleaning agents
and disinfectants (see the following
chapter 7.1).
7.1 Material compatibilities
!Check the compatibility of the cleanser
and/or disinfectant in an inconspicuous
area before cleaning the Power Unit.
!Use a mild soapy solution that is
permitted in your country to clean
the Power Unit, or a 50% aqueous
1-propanol solution.
!Use a mild disinfectant that is permitted
in your country to disinfect the Power
Unit, or a 70% aqueous 2-propanol
solution.
Based on the following material compat-
ibilities, you can assess which cleaning
agents and disinfectants are suitable.
The surfaces of the Power Unit are resis-
tant to:

7.2 Disinfecting surfaces
Before and after each usage:
!Disinfect all surfaces of the Power Unit
as described in chapter 6.1 on page 24.
7.3 Cleaning surfaces
In the event of external contamination:
!Wipe the Power Unit, the power supply
plug and the cable with a soft cloth
moistened in a cleaning agent or
adisinfectant.
8 Transport and storage

If the Power Unit is dropped, it can be
damaged.
!Always place the Power Unit on its
rubber feet on a level and stable
surface so that it cannot fall.
!If the Power Unit falls, perform avisual
inspection of the components.

aspecialist retailer for inspection if it
exhibits any external signs of damage
or if it does not function in the normal
manner.
!Always transport the Power Unit and its
accessories in their original packaging.
!Always store the Power Unit and
its accessories under the following

10 For questions or problems
10.1 Risk of injury when lifting the
tattooing machine
If the connected tattooing machine does
not start, although the Operating LED is
illuminated:
!Only PUII: Ensure that desired tattooing
machine is activated (see chapter 6.4 on
page 25).
!Test the function of the tattooing ma-
chine as described in the corresponding
operating instructions.
If the connected tattooing machine does
not start and the Operating LED is not
illuminated:
!Perform all steps described in chapter
10.2 below.
10.2 Correcting Power Unit
malfunctions
!Disconnect the Power Unit from the
voltage supply, from the optional foot
switch and from the tattooing machines.
!Check all connections and re-connect
the components.
!Check the functions of the Power Unit
once again.
