Christie IMB-S3 Battery
Replacement
This document provides instructions for replacing the Christie IMB-S3 batteries using the Christie
battery replacement service kit.
General safety precautions
Hazard warnings also apply to accessories once they are installed in a Christie product that is
connected to power.
Warning! If not avoided, the following could result in death or serious injury.
• SHOCK HAZARD! Disconnect the product from AC before installing, moving, servicing, cleaning,
removing components, or opening any enclosure.
• EXPLOSION HAZARD! Allow sufficient time for the lamp to cool down before powering down the
product, disconnecting it from AC, and opening the lamp door.
• EXPLOSION HAZARD! Replacement battery must be of the correct type.
• EXPLOSION HAZARD! Dispose of the battery according to local area regulations.
Caution! If not avoided, the following could result in minor or moderate injury.
• Only Christie qualified technicians are permitted to open product enclosures.
• Observe all electrostatic precautions. Use a grounded wrist strap and insulated tools when
handling, servicing, or cleaning electronic assemblies.
Required components
Before replacing the batteries in the Christie IMB-S3, ensure the necessary components are available.
• Christie IMB-S3
• Christie Replacement Battery Kit (P/N: 003-006461-XX)
Required tools
Before you begin, ensure you have the following tools.
• Projector high security key
• Electrostatic wrist strap
• #2 Phillips® screwdriver

Replacing the IMB-S3 batteries
Only use the replacement batteries supplied in the Christie Battery Replacement Kit (P/N:
003-006461-XX). Incorrect battery types create an explosion hazard.
Caution! If not avoided, the following could result in permanent loss of data.
• To avoid triggering a tamper condition, follow this procedure exactly. Once triggered, the unit is
unusable and must be returned to Christie.
1. Turn off the light source and allow the projector to cool a minimum of 15 minutes.
2. Disconnect the projector from AC power.
3. Remove the top cover.
4. Remove the high security cover.
5. Remove the card cage cover.
6. Release the security ring and remove it from the projector.
7. Remove the IMB-S3 from the projector.
8. On the IMB-S3, remove the plastic cover on the battery enclosure by removing the two screws.
9. Remove the first battery and replace it with a new battery.
Remove only one battery before proceeding to the next step. Removing both batteries at the
same time triggers the tamper condition.
10. Re-install the IMB-S3 in the projector.
It is not necessary to re-install the security ring during this step.
11. Apply power to the projector and wait for projector to start fully.
Steps 9, 10, and 11 are critical. Ensure they are followed exactly to avoid triggering the tamper
condition.
12. Disconnect the projector from AC power.
13. Remove the IMB-S3 from the projector.
14. Remove the second battery and replace it with a new battery.
15. Re-install IMB-S3 in the projector.
16. Re-install the security ring.
17. Apply power to the projector and wait for the projector to start fully.
18. Activate marriage for the IMB-S3 and the projector.
