Intended use of the pump/installation also includes follow-
ing these instructions.
Any other use is not regarded as intended use.
3.2 Product description
The pump (Fig. 1/1) consists of a hydraulic system, a glan-
dless pump motor with a permanent magnet rotor, and an
electronic control module with an integrated frequency con-
verter.
The control module contains an operating knob for setting
the control mode and an LED (Fig. 1/2) for displaying run
and fault signals.
3.3 Functions
All functions can be set, activated or deactivated using the
operating knob.
If the LED is green, mains voltage is applied and the pump
is in operation. If the LED is flashing, the pump is running
outside its normal parameters or is out of operation due to
a fault (see chapter 6, Maintenance / fault).
Control modes
Variable differential pressure (p-v):
The differential-pressure setpoint H is increased linearly
over the permitted volume flow range between ½H and H
(Fig. 2a). The differential pressure generated by the pump
is adjusted to the corresponding differential-pressure set-
point.
3 speed stages:
The pump runs uncontrolled in three prescribed fixed speed
stages. (Fig. 2b).

4 Installation and electrical connection
4.1 Installation
DANGER: Before starting work, make sure that the
pump has been disconnected from the power supply.
Installation site
• Provide a weatherproof, frost-free, dust-free and well-venti-
lated room for the installation.
Choose an installation site that is easily accessible.
• Prepare the installation site so that the pump can be
installed without being exposed to mechanical stresses. If
need be, support or secure piping on both side of the pump.
NOTE: Provide check valves upstream and downstream of
the pump to facilitate a possible pump replacement. Per-
form installation so that leaking water cannot drip onto the
control module. To do this, align the upper gate valve later-
ally, if need be.
• Complete all welding and soldering work near the pump
prior to the installation of the pump.
CAUTION:
Dirt can cause pump failure. Flush the pipe
system before installation.
• Choose the correct installation position with horizontal
pump motor - only as shown in (Fig. 3). Direction arrows on
the pump housing indicate the direction of flow.
• If heat insulation work is necessary, only the pump housing
may be insulated. The pump motor, module and the con-
densate-drain openings must remain uncovered.

English

Turn motor head)
If the installation position of the module is changed, the
motor housing has to be turned as follows:
• Loosen the internal hexagon screws
• Turn the motor housing, including control module
NOTE: Generally turn the motor head before the system is
filled. When turning the motor head in an installation which
is already filled, do not pull the motor head out of the pump
housing. Turn the motor head with a small amount of pres-
sure on the motor unit so that no water can come out of the
pump.
CAUTION: Do not damage the housing seal.
Replace damaged seals.
• Turn the motor head in such a way that the plug corre-
sponds to the permitted installation position (Fig. 3).
CAUTION: If the position is wrong, water can penetrate
and destroy the pump.
• Turn in the internal hexagon screws.
4.2 Electrical connection
DANGER:
Work on the electrical connection may only
be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance
with national and local regulations.
Before establishing the connection, make sure that the
connecting cable is dead.
• Mains voltage and current type have to correspond to the
rating plate specifications.
• Connect the plug (Fig. 4a to 4e).
• Mains connection: L, N, PE.
• Max. back-up fuse: 10 A, slow.

Installation and operating instructions 9
English
• Earth the pump according to the regulations.
Dismantle the plug in accordance with Fig. 5. A screwdriver
is needed for this.
• The electrical connection is to be established via a fixed
connection line equipped with a connector device or an all-
pole switch with a contact opening width of at least 3 mm.
• To ensure drip protection and strain relief at the PG
screwed connection, a connected load with an adequate
outer diameter is necessary (e.g. H05VV-F3G1.5 or
AVMH-3x1.5).
• When pumps are used in systems with water temperatures
above 90°C, a suitably heat-resistant connected load is
installed.
• The connected load is to be placed in such a way that it can
under no circumstances come into contact with the pipe
and/or the pump and motor housing.
• The switching of the pump via triacs/solid-state relays is to
be checked on an individual basis.
5 Commissioning/operation
WARNING: Depending on the pump or system operat-
ing conditions (fluid temperature), the entire pump can
become very hot. Touching the pump can cause burns!
Commissioning by qualified personnel only!
5.1 Operation

head or speed stage.

English
10 4172332-Ed.01 (2012/07)
5.2 Filling and bleeding
• Properly fill the system.
• The pump rotor space bleeds automatically after a short
time in operation. This may cause noises. If necessary,
switch off and on repeatedly to accelerate the venting.
Dry running for short periods will not harm the pump.
5.3 Adjusting the pump
By turning the knob, the control mode symbol is selected
and the desired delivery head or speed stage is set.
Selection of the control mode
Variable differential pressure (p-v): also see Fig. 2a
The pump for the control mode p-v is set on the left of the
middle position.
3 speed stages: also see Fig. 2b
The pump is set for three speed stages on the right of the
middle position.
NOTE: If a standard heating pump is replaced by this high-
efficiency pump, the knob can be set (as a reference point
for setting the pump setpoint) on the first, second or third
pump curve (c1, c2, c3) on the scale for three speed stages.
Setting of the delivery head/speed stage
If the knob is turned from the middle position to the left or
to the right, the set setpoint or the selected speed stage
increases. If the knob is turned back again to the middle
position, the set setpoint or the selected speed stage is
reduced.
When the knob is turned in the p-v control mode, the set-
tings correspond to the following setpoints:

Installation and operating instructions 11
English
In 3 speed stage mode, the settings are c1, c2 or c3 for the
relevant pump curve.
NOTE: When the knob is turned to the middle position, the
pump runs at minimum speed.
Factory setting: p-v, ½ Hmax
NOTE: All settings and displays are retained if the mains
supply is interrupted.
6 Maintenance/faults
DANGER: Before starting any maintenance and repair
work, disconnect the pump from the power supply, and
make sure it cannot be switched back on by unauthor-
ised persons. Damage to the connection cable should
always be repaired by a qualified electrician. Have faults
remedied by qualified skilled personnel only!
WARNING: Depending on the pump or system operating
conditions (fluid temperature), the entire pump can
become very hot. Touching the pump can cause burns!
When removing the motor head or pump, hot fluid may
spurt out under high pressure. Allow the pump to cool
down beforehand.
Close the stop valves before removing the pump.
Inside the machine there is always a strong magnetic
field that can cause injury and damage to property in the
event of incorrect dismantling.
