01 COMPONENTS
Thank you for purchasing a Clarity Node! You’ll find the following components in the box:
Please note that hardware and tools required for mounting the device on a pole, wall or
panel (e.g., Phillips screwdriver, zip ties, or additional screws) are not included as they
depend on the requirements of the deployment site. Additional extension cords and plug
converters may also be needed to power the device.
UV-resistant plastic zip ties or metal zip ties are recommended to securing the device
outdoors. In addition, extension cord protectors can be used to weatherproof the power
connectors for outdoor use.

02 CHOOSING A DEPLOYMENT SITE
Ensure the site satisfies the following requirements:
1. Site has access to 2.4 GHz WiFi connectivity.
2. 6 to 15 feet in height from street level to measure general population exposure and
more than 20 feet away from obvious pollution sources (chimney or exhaust).
3. A pole, wall, or panel available for mounting.
4. A powered outlet available to power the device.
5. Infrastructure should allow air inlet/outlet on the Node to be positioned facing down
towards the ground & unobstructed.
03 DEVICE CONFIGURATION
1. Scan the Node ID on the device using a QR code scanning
application or the camera app on your mobile device to
automatically access the Clarity Deployment Tool.
Alternatively, you may access it at https://deploy.clarity.io.
2. Log in with the credentials provided on the Quick Start
Guide in the box. Please save these credentials.
3. Upon successful login, you will see your device labeled as
unconfigured. If you purchased more than one device, you
will see other Node IDs here.
4. Click on the + sign next to the device you’d like to
configure. A form will appear to configure the device.

Enter location latitude (e.g., “38.0704608”)and longitude
(e.g., “-120.1429285”)or select location on the map
Enter height above ground level (m) e.g., “5”
Enter distance from nearest road (m) e.g., “35”
Optional Upload image of deployed device
Click “Submit” to complete configuration

04 WIFI CONFIGURATION
1. Plug the device into a power outlet with the provided power adapter. A Power On sound
(See Appendix B for details on sounds), indicating that it is powered on.
2. On a phone or computer, select “Clarity_AP” from available WiFi networks (Figure 3).
3. A menu or browser will pop up (Figure 4). If not, go to 192.168.4.1 in the web browser.
4. If connecting to a new WiFi network, select “Configure WiFi”. Select “Connect Now” if
the saved WiFi network is the desired network to start connecting.
5. Please enter the WiFi SSID and password for the desired WiFi network. Click “Connect to
WiFi” and wait for connection status (Figure 5).
6. If successful, the device will play the Connection Successful sound (See Appendix B for
details on sounds), indicating that it is connected. If unsuccessful, the device will play
the Connection Fail sounds (See Appendix B for details on sounds). Please proceed to
Troubleshooting (Appendix A).

to a pole (right). Zip ties not included.
05 ASSEMBLY
1. Use a Philips head screwdriver to attach the back-mounting plate to the device with the
provided screws. The plate can be attached horizontally or vertically depending on the
infrastructure. See Figures 6-8 to determine the best orientation.
If securing onto a wall
If hanging onto a
wall
If attaching to a pole
2. Screw the provided antenna into the Node and orient the antenna upright as
illustrated in Figure 9.

06 DEPLOYMENT
1. Mount the Node to a pole, wall, or panel as illustrated in Figure 10.
2. Plug the device into a protected power outlet with the provided power adapter.
07 CHECKING DEVICE STATUS
Log in to https://deploy.clarity.io on your computer or phone to check device status.
1. Tap the hamburger menu on the top left and click on the Devices tab
2. Click on the Node ID to see the status of the device.

Description
Actions to take
Device is assigned to the
account. User has not
completed Clarity Cloud
Configuration (Section 3).
Follow the instructions in Section 3 to
configure the device.
Device is successfully
configured but not
deployed. No readings
have been uploaded from
the device to the Clarity
Cloud.
Follow instructions in Sections 4, 5, and 6 to
deploy the device.
Device is functioning and
uploading data to the
Clarity Cloud normally.
No further action needed.
Device was previously
functioning normally but
has failed to upload at
least two consecutive
readings to the Clarity
Cloud.
Possible causes:
1. Device not powered: Ensure the
provided Power Adapter is securely
screwed into the device and power
outlet is working.
2. Antenna not securely attached: Ensure
the antenna is tightly screwed in to the
device and upright.
3. Temporary Wi-Fi connectivity issues.

08 VIEWING DATA
Air quality data from your devices can be viewed on Clarity’s OpenMap at
https://openmap.clarity.io/.
Please click on a circle to see the device information.
09 GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Regular inspection of the deployed devices is recommended to ensure continued
functioning in the field. Please inspect for the following:
•Power Adapter is securely inserted in to the protected outlet
•Power connector cable is securely attached to the device
•Antenna is oriented upright
•Inlet and outlet of the device are unobstructed
