4. Read these instructions before using thephone
4.1 Choose alocation for thebase station and thecharger
The base station should be placed on alevel surface in alocation where:
• The mains adaptor reaches avacant wall socket.
• The base station’s phone line reaches atelephone socket.
• It is not near another cordless phone which may cause interference.
• It is not near akitchen sink, bathtub, or shower, or anywhere else where it may be
exposed to water or splashing.
• It is not near any electrical equipment such as afridge, dishwasher, microwave,
fluorescent tube light, or TVset.
4.2 Connecting to themains
The base station must only be used with theincluded adaptor. Theusage of any other
adaptorisinviolationofEN60950andvoidstheconformityapprovalsbestowedupon
thedevice.
4.3 Radio signals between thehandset and thebase station
In order to use thehandset and thebase station together you must establish aradio
signal link between them. Alwaysbe aware that:
• Large metal objects such as fridges, mirrors, or filing cabinets located between
thehandset and thebase station may block theradio signal.
• Solid structures such as walls may reduce thestrength of thesignal.
4.4 Interference
• If thesound quality deteriorates as you move around during acall, theprobable
cause is some form of interference between thehandset and base station.
Thismight be because you are too close to another telephone or another
electricalappliance.
• Move to anew location to try and avoid thesource of theinterference.
• Radiointerferenceinthesurroundingareacansometimescauseashortinterruption
in theradio signal between thehandset and thebase station during acall.
4.5 Out of range warning
Ifyouhearawarningsignalduringacall,and/orthesoundinthespeakerisweak
or unclear you may have moved outside thebase station’s range. Youneed to move
closer to thebase station (until thewarning signal stops) within 20 seconds; otherwise
thecall will be disconnected.
4.6 Battery safety
Only use rechargeable batteries in thehandset. Neveruse non-rechargeable batteries,
they can leak and cause damage.

4.7 Initial battery charging
Before using thephone for thefirst time, make sure thebatteries are fully charged by
charging thehandset for 15hours.
4.8 Important – Emergency calls
It is not possible to make emergency calls with this cordless phone during apowercut.
An alternative way of contacting theemergency services should be planned.
Makesure that you have atelephone which works in powercuts.

6. Getting started
6.1 Connecting thebase station
Connect thephone lead and theadaptor to
thebase station as shown in thefigure.

6.3 Inserting thehandset batteries
1. Openthebatterycompartmentandinsert2×AAA/LR03batteries,observing
correct polarity.
2. Retthecoverofthebatterycompartmentbyslidingitintoplaceandpressingto
make sure it is secure.
6.4 Charging thebatteries
• Before you use thehandset for thefirst time it is important that thebatteries have
been fully charged.
• The handset emits abeep signal when it is inserted into thebase station correctly.
Chargethehandset for 15hours.

one at atime. Holding down the[ ] key deletes all thedigits.

more easily.

4. Press [ ] and enter thecontact’s number.

7.10 Showing astored number
1. In standby mode, press [ ] twice. Thefirst contact in thephonebook
isdisplayed.
2. Use [ ] or [ ] to browse thelist of stored numbers.
3. To search for aspecific contact, enter thename instead of browsing with [ ] or [ ].
7.11 Deleting anumber
1. Press [ ] and select contacts. Thenpress [ ] oncemore.
2. Use [ ] or [ ] to browse thelist of contacts.
3. Press [ ] and select DELETE.
4. Press [ ] to confirm.
You can delete theentire list in thesame way by using DELALL.
7.12 Editing acontact
1. Press [ ] and select contacts. Thenpress [ ] oncemore.
2. Use [ ] or [ ] to browse thelist of contacts for theone you wish toedit.
3. Press [ ] to select and then select EDIT.
4. Press [ ] to display thecontact.
5. Press [ ] to delete letters and digits from thecontact. Confirm by pressing
[ ] when you are finished.
6. Use [ ] or [ ] to select aring signal and confirm using[ ].

7.13 Storing speed dial numbers
Upto8ofyourfavouritenumberscanbestoredonthespeeddialkeys(keys2–9).
Bypressing and holding down one of thekeys for about 2 seconds you can ring
afavourite number much more quickly.
1. Press [ ]. “CONTACTS” is shown on thedisplay.
2. Press [ ] again to enter your contact list.
3. Press [ ] and use [ ] or [ ] to select FASTDIAL.
4. Press [ ] and use [ ] or [ ]toselectoneoftheslots(2–9)andconrmby
pressing [ ].
5. Todeleteacontactfromyourspeeddiallist,followstep1–3butselectDELETE.
7.14 Caller ID
If you have this service from your provider you can see on thedisplay who is calling
you. Iftheperson who is calling has awithheld number, or if someone is calling via
aswitchboard thenumber might not be shown. Thephone saves thenumbers of
thelast10incomingcalls(whetheryouansweredornot).Whenall10ofthecallerID
memory slots are filled, thenext incoming number will overwrite theoldest number.
Ifthenumber was withheld or not accessible no information will besaved.
8. Phone settings

IfyouhavesubscribedtocallerID,thetimeanddatewillbeupdatedautomaticallybut
theyear might need to be set manually.

• Tochangethehandsetlanguage:LANGUAGE.
• Torenamethehandset:HSNAME.
• Todisplayinformationinstandbymode:DISPLAY–HSNAME/TIME.
• To set theAuto Answer so you can answer by just lifting thehandset:
AUTOANS–ON/OFF.
• Tosetthedirectmemorykeys,M1–M3:MEMKEY.
• Registering(Pairing)thehandsetwithmultiplebasestations:SELBASE.

9.1 Changing thePINcode
The PIN code is to prevent thephone from unauthorised use. Thepreset code
is0000. To change thePIN code:

2. Press [ ] and use [ ] or [ ] to select CHGPIN.
3. Press [ ],andthemessage“OLDPIN”willappearonthedisplay.
4. Press [ ] to enter anewcode.
5. Press [ ] to confirm.
9.2 Resetting thephone
To reset thephone to its default factory settings:
1. Press [ ] and use [ ] or [ ] to select DEFAULT.
2. Press [ ] and enter thePINcode.
3. Press [ ],andthemessage“CONFIRM”willappearonthedisplay.
4. Press [ ] to confirm.
9.3 Registering a handset with a base station
The handset which comes with your base station normally does not need to be registered;
only new receivers that have been bought separately need to be registered.
Ifthedisplayonthehandsetshows“UNREGISTERED”,itneedstoberegisteredwith
the base station.
1. Instandbymode,press(symbol)once.Thedisplaywillshow“PHONEBOOK”.
2. Press ▲twice,“REGISTRATION”willshowonthedisplay.
3. Press [ ],“BASE1”willbeshown.Ifthehandsetisalreadyregisteredtoa
base station a “+” sign will be shown to the right of the base station’s name on
the display.
4. Press ▼toselectanumberforthebasestation(BASE1,2,3or4).
5. Press [ ],“PIN1”willbeshown.EnterthePINcodeofthebasestation.
The preset code for this base station is 0000.
6. Press [ ]toconrm.Thesearchstartsandthedisplayshows“SEARCHINGx”.
7. Hold the [ ] button on the handset in for 10 seconds.
8. When the registration is completed the handset beeps to confirm. The number of
the handset will appear on the display and the indicator on the base station will
shut off.

Wipe thesurface clean using asoft damp cloth. Neveruse solvents or strong detergents.

11.Troubleshooting guide
Check that:
• You have followed theguidelines for theinstallation of thephone.
• All units are correctly connected to thephone line and themains.
• That thewall socket works.
• That thehandset’s batteries are correctly inserted and not discharged.
The handset does not work:
• Check that thehandset’s batteries are correctly inserted and not discharged.
• Check that thebase station is connected and thephone is charged when placed
in thebase station.
The handset works but cannot be connected to thebase station:
• Check that thebase station is connected to themains.
• Make sure that thewall socket that thebase station is connected toworks.
• Registerthehandsettothebasestation.
It is not possible to make or receive calls:
• If thehandset display is not lit it may be turned off. Push[ ] to turn it onagain.
• Check that thebase station’s adaptor is correctly connected. Thebase station
needs power in order for thephone to work properly.
• Make sure you are using thephone lead that was delivered with thephone.
Otherphone leads may notwork.
• Move thehandset closer to thebase station.
• Check thesymbol for thebattery level on thedisplay. Ifit is low, place thehandset
into thebase station and recharge thebatteries.
• Unplug theadaptor from thewall socket, wait for afew seconds and then plug it in
again. Thatmay solve theproblem.
I cannot make acall:
• Thehandset’skeypadlockmaybeactivated.Deactivatethekeypadlockbefore
making acall.
• Call blocking may be activated.
Nothing happens when I push thebuttons:
Check that thebatteries are in thehandset. Ifthebattery level symbol shows “low”,
recharge thehandset.
When I enter anumber it appears on thedisplay but I cannot make anexternal call:
• Try placing thehandset closer to thebase station or change thebase station’s
position. Ifpossible place it in ahigher location or away from other electrical
equipment.
• Call blocking may be activated.

The phone does not ring:
• Check that thebase station’s adaptor is correctly connected. Thebase station
needs power in order for thephone to work properly.
• Make sure you are using thephone lead that was delivered with thephone.
Otherphone leads may notwork.
My call was lost when I went out of range. NowI cannot use my receiver:
Move thehandset closer to thebase station before trying again.
There is interference and noise on theline:
Move thehandset closer to thebase station or to another location. Trymoving
thebase station so it is not near electrical equipment such as aTV or computer.
Youget thebest reception if you place thebase station as high as possible.
I hear a“beep” from thehandset when I make acall:
• You may be on your way out of base station range. Movecloser or your call may
belost.
• Check thesymbol for thebattery level on thedisplay. Ifit is low, recharge thehandset.
The Caller ID function does not work:
YoumustsubscribetoCallerIDthroughyourprovider.Thepersoncallingmayhave
withheldtheirnumberoritcouldbecallingfromanetthatdoesnotsupportCallerID
(e.g. international calls or switchboards).
I hear abusy tone when I try calling:
If you have extra handsets registered to your base station, check that none of
theother handsets is currently being used for acall.
The volume in theearpiece is low when I call:
Make sure theearpiece is held against your ear. Adjustthevolume using [ ] or [ ].
The handset does not work despite 15 hours charge:
Removethebatteriesandleavethemoutforafewsecondsbeforereplacingthem.
Iftheproblem remains you may have to change thebatteries.
The handset’s batteries discharge after anhour or two:
• Before thephone is used it should be charged for 15hours.
• If thebatteries are old they may have to be replaced.
• Clean thecharging contacts with acleancloth.
• Check theconnection between thebase station and thewall socket.
I try charging thebatteries but still get awarning that they are not fully charged:
• Ifthebatteriesareoldtheymayhavetobereplaced.Disposeofemptybatteries
in asafe manner, never burn them, and never place them in aspot where they
maybreak.
• Never use non-rechargeable batteries, they can break and cause damage.

If theproblem remains…
• Disconnectallotherdevicesconnectedtothesamelineandtrymakingacall.
• Disconnectthebasestationfromthephonelineandconnectanotherphoneto
themain phone socket (where theline enters your property). Trymaking acall.
Ifitworks then thelineworks.
• If thecall does not work and you are using atwo-way splitter plug, remove it
and connect aphone directly to thephone socket. Ifthecall does work now
thesplitterplug might be faulty.
• If you still cannot make acall thetelephone network may have afault.
Contactyourprovider.
