The Cochlear™Aqua+ for Kanso™is a re-usable sealable
cover that keeps your Cochlear™Kanso Sound Processor
(model number: CP950) dry during use in or around water
(e.g. when swimming, surfing, or just having fun splashing
around). It is worn on your implant with your sound processor
sealed inside.
The Aqua+ is intended for use by recipients using the Kanso
Sound Processor with specific disposable batteries. It should
only be used by recipients who can either remove the sound
processor themselves if it’s causing discomfort or who can
indicate any discomfort to their parent or caregiver.
The Cochlear Headband is a retention option that holds
Aqua+ more securely on your head.
The Nucleus®Safety Line is a retention option to help
prevent accidental loss of your Aqua+ by securing it to your
clothing with a snap-lock clip.
Remotes and wireless accessories can be used with Aqua+,
however they should be protected from water and kept dry.
Testing shows Aqua+ can be used at depths of up to 3 metres
for up to 2 hours.
Testing shows Aqua+ can be re-used up to 50 times, but this
may vary depending on your particular use of it.
There have been no reported undesirable side effects from
using Aqua+ .

Battery use with Aqua+
For everyday use, most Kanso Sound Processor users will
achieve at least 16 hours battery life with zinc air batteries.
But you cannot use zinc air batteries with Aqua+ as they need
air and there is insufficient air inside Aqua+ when it’s sealed.
You must use other disposable batteries for your Kanso
Sound Processor to work inside Aqua+. You can use
alkaline, nickel metal hydride or silver oxide* batteries.
BATTERY TYPE USE WITH
AQUA+
ESTIMATED
MINIMUM LIFE
(Zinc air - p675 - PR44) (No) (16 hours)
Alkaline (LR44) Yes 1 hour
Nickel metal hydride (P675) Yes 1 hour 30 min
Silver oxide (SR44) Yes 3 hours
* (USA) Silver oxide batteries are contraindicated by the FDA.
NOTE
Battery life depends on your implant type, the thickness of skin
over your implant, system settings and hearing situations. It can
also vary between battery manufacturers.
If you use a Cochlear Nucleus CR230 Remote Assistant, you
can check your remaining battery life (when you’re out of the
water):

1. If you use a Safety Line, remove it from your sound
processor (see your sound processor’s user guide for
instructions).

3. Open the Aqua+ housing.
Put your fingers under the top cover’s side tabs and press
your thumbs on the raised sides of the base.
CAUTION
Don’t damage the soft top cover with your fingernails.
TIP
You can gently bend the Aqua+ side tabs towards you,
and press alternately on the left then right side until the
base pops out.
4. Check both halves for damage (e.g. scratches, tears) or
contamination (e.g. sand, hair, sunscreen).
If it is damaged, use a new Aqua+.
CAUTION
Anything that affects the seal may cause water to leak in
and damage your sound processor.

6AQUA+ FOR KANSO™USER GUIDE
5. Place your sound processor button side up in the Aqua+
base unit.
TIPS
• Your Aqua+ is shaped so your processor only fits in
one way.
• If you use a Cochlear SoftWear™ pad, you can leave it
on the processor.
6. Put the Aqua+ top cover on the base unit (line up the
button shape on the top cover with the button on your
sound processor).
TIP
Make sure you don’t trap too much air in the top cover.
This may affect sound quality and comfort.

7AQUA+ FOR KANSO™USER GUIDE
7. Turn the Aqua+ over and firmly press around the edges
until the base is flush with the top cover.
CAUTION
Make sure your Aqua+ is properly sealed, so water doesn’t
leak in and damage your sound processor.
8. If you’re worried about losing Aqua+ (e.g. in the surf), use
the Safety Line to attach it to your clothing.
See Safety Line instructions on page 10.

Safety Line instructions
WARNING
Retention lines longer than the Safety Line (standard length) are
not recommended for use by children as they may present a risk
of strangulation.
1. Thread the loop end of the line through the hole in the
Aqua+.
2. Create a knot by passing the clip end of the line through
the line loop. Pull it tight.
3. Lift the lever to open the clip. Place the clip over your
clothing and press the lever down to close the clip.

After you get wet...
Care and storage
1. Rinse Aqua+ with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.
2. Open the Aqua+ top cover and remove your sound
processor.
3. Place your Aqua+ in your dry aid kit overnight.
4. Once it’s thoroughly dry, put the two halves together and
test the seal by pressing down on the top:
• If any air leaks out, you should not use it again.
5. If the seal is ok, separate the two halves again and place
your Aqua+ in your storage case or the Kanso Activity
Kit’s waterproof case until you want to use it again.

12 AQUA+ FOR KANSO™USER GUIDE
Cautions
• Where possible, avoid pressing the processor button with
your fingernail as this can damage Aqua+.
• If your Aqua+ appears damaged or worn, replace it with
a new one.
• If your sound processor does get wet, dry it with a soft
dry cloth and place it in your dry aid kit for at least eight
hours.
• If you use a Softwear pad or Headband, and you
experience intermittent sound from your processor, try
removing the Softwear pad or Headband.

13AQUA+ FOR KANSO™USER GUIDE
Warnings
• If your sound processor becomes unusually warm,
remove it immediately and seek advice from your
clinician. Parents/caregivers: if your recipient indicates
discomfort, check if their sound processor is unusually
warm.
• Small parts (e.g. batteries, Safety Line) may be a choking
or strangulation hazard.
• If you experience tightness or pain at the implant site, or
develop significant skin irritation, stop using your sound
processor and contact your clinician.
• If you experience tightness or pain from your retention
aid (e.g. Headband, goggles), either loosen it or replace it
with a larger retention aid.
• If the coil magnet is too strong, pressure sores may
develop at the implant site. If this happens, or if you
experience any discomfort in this area, contact your
clinician.
• Store spare magnets safely and away from cards that may
have a magnetic strip (e.g. credit cards, bus tickets, etc).
• No modification of this equipment is allowed.
• Use only as intended.
• Report unexpected problems to your clinician.
