Chapter 1 Introduction
Thanks for purchasing Colorful 945 series motherboard:
The C.945PL is based on the latest Intel 945PL and ICH7. Support
dual-channel DDR2 400/533/667MHz memory, Other configurations-such as
hardware functions, interface, BIOS etc, are the same as C.945PL Ver2.1,so we
take C.945PLVer2.1 as an example.
The C.945PL Ver2.1 motherboard supports the Intel® Pentium D/Core TM 2
Duo/ Pentium 4 / Celeron D CPU processors in the LGA775 socket with the
scalability for future processor innovations. Embedded AC’97 8-channel Audio
CODEC. It Provides RTL81100S Gigabit LAN /RTL8100C Megabit LAN
(optional) .
C.945PLVer2.1 provides 3 PCI slots, 2 PCIE x16 slots, 1 PCIE x 1 slot

ATI CrossFire Technology Introduction
ATI released today its new technology that allows two video cards to be
connected together in parallel in order to increase the system gaming performance –
theoretically this technology can double it, called Crossfire. When two ATI cards are
linked up, they are capable of using three different methods to split the rendering load
between them—super tiling, scissor, and alternate frame rendering. Super tiling is
supported only in Direct3D applications; it divides up the display into 32x32 pixel
squares, like a chess board, where each card renders alternate tiles. Both Direct3D and
OpenGL applications can benefit from scissor mode, where the screen is split in half
horizontally, with one card rendering the top half while the other does the bottom half.
Finally, Alternate frame rendering mode does just what it sounds like: The two cards
take turns rendering frames.
Crossfire allows you to use different video cards which stay on the same family
together. The only requirement is that one of the cards must be “Crossfire Edition”,
the other card can be an early model, but if their memory is not the same, system will
recognize GDDR of the small one as default.ATI suggest users use the same model.
NOTE: When you make a Crossfire system, we suggest you using a driver newer than
Catalyst® driver 5.12.

Chapter 2 Hardware Installation
Hardware Installation Steps
Before using your computer, you had better complete the following steps:
1. Install CPU and Fan
2. Install System Memory (DIMM)
3. Fix into the case
4. Install all of the Expansion cards
5. Connect IDE and Floppy cables, ATX Power cable, Front Panel /Back Panel cable
Step 1: Install CPU
The C.945PL Ver2.1 motherboard supports the Intel® Pentium D/Core TM 2 Duo/
Pentium 4 / Celeron D CPU processors in the LGA775 socket .
When you are installing the CPU, make sure to install the cooler to prevent
overheating.
NOTE: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL Socket-478/Socket-A processor (like PPGA
Celeron, FCPGA Pentium-III, Pentium-MMX or AMD CPU etc.) on LGA775.
Install Procedures:
a. Remove the plastic cap from lever hinge side and lift the load lever up and open the
load plate.
b. Correctly align the triangle of CPU Clip with the CPU chamfer, and the square on
the CPU Clip to the hook of the socket. Use your thumb and the middle fingers to
push the clips to release the CPU, and then press down the CPU with your index
finger to allow the whole module to be installed onto the CPU socket. Then cover the
load plate onto the package.

c. Install the cooler. Connect the power cable to the CPU_FAN connector.
NOTE: After installing the system, please check and set the CPU frequency.
Step 2: Install Memory
The motherboard provides 4 slots for 240-pin DDR2 DIMM, which supports
dual-channel DDR2 533/667/800MHz.
The clock can be set in BIOS. Please refer to “Advanced Chipset Features Setup”
section for more detail information.
Install Steps:
a. Open the white plastic clip at each side of the DIMM.
b. Insert the DIMM memory module vertically into the DIMM slot. Then push it in
until the golden finger on the memory module is deeply inserted in the socket.

c. The plastic clip at each side of the DIMM slot will automatically close.
Install Dual-channel
C.945PL Ver2.1 motherboard supports dual-channel DDR2 533/667/800MHz
memory interface, while both channels (in different color) populated with same
amount of memory size will work as dual-channel DDR.
NOTE: The memories must be the same type, same size, and same frequency for dual
channel function.
Step3 Install the Motherboard into the Case
You can easily install the motherboard into the case .Please screw the
motherboard firmly to prevent of short circuit.
Step4 Install Expansion Card
You can easily install the AGP or PCI expansion cards on the motherboard .Please
align the card's connectors and press firmly.
Step5 Connect all the signal cables, IDE cables, power cables and panel cables to the
connectors

Jumper set
There is a CMOS RAM on board that has a power supply from external battery to
keep the system configuration data. With the CMOS RAM, the system can
automatically boot OS every time it is turned on. If you want to clear the system
configuration, use the CLR_ CMOS Jumper to clear data.
Clear CMOS PROCEDURE

You can clear CMOS by shorting 2-3 pin. Before you clearing the CMOS, following
next procedure:
1. Shut down your computer
2. Pull out the ATX power cable
3. Shorting 2-3 pin 3 seconds
4. Then shorting the 1-2 pin
5. Connect the ATX power connector again
NOTE: You need clear CMOS when
in next instance
1. When you forget your CMOS
password.
2. When over-clocking is failed.

Connectors
Floppy Disk Dive Connector:FDD1
The motherboard provides a standard 34pin floppy disk drive connector that can
supports 2 floppy drives. There is also a foolproof design on pin 34 to avoid wrong
installation.
Connect the floppy disk ribbon cable
After connecting the single plug end to J23 on the motherboard, connect the two
plugs at other end to the floppy drive(s).

IDE Connector: IDE1
IDE1 is a 40 pin connector which can connect 2IDE devices and support
ATA33/66/100. We suggest you to set the HDD to Master and the CD-ROM to Slave.
Serial ATA Connectors: SATA1-SATA4

You can use these connectors to install Serial ATA hard disks.
USB Port Headers: USB2/USB3
The header is used for connecting 2 additional USB 2.0/1.1 ports plug.
Line-Out, MIC Header: F_AUDIO
These headers connect to Front Panel Line-out, MIC connector with cable.

FAN Power Heads: AUXFAN1&SYS AN1
These two fan heads is very
important in you installation. It’s the
power supply of the fan which to
reduce the system and the CPU
temperature.

NOTE: We suggest you to install cooler on the CPU and connect the power cable to
the J13 connector.
CD Audio-In Headers: CN_IN1
CN_IN1 is the connector for CD-Audio Input signal. Please connect it to CD-ROM,
TV, or MPEG card Audio output connector.

Front Panel Switch, LEDs and Speaker connector: FPIO2
SPEAKER1: Speaker connector
This 4-pin connector connects to the case-mounted speaker. You should follow the
instruction of the speaker cable.
HD-LED: Primary/Secondary IDE LED
When the IDE hard disks are written, this LED will shine.
RESET: Reset switch
This connector connects to the case-mounted reset switch for rebooting your
computer without having to turn off your power switch. This is a preferred method
of rebooting in order to prolong the lift of the system’s power supply.
PWRSW: Power switch
This connector connects to the case-mounted power switch to power ON/OFF the
system. Please refer to Chapter 3 "Soft-Off By PBTN" section for more detail
information.
PWRLED - Power/StandBy LED
The Power LED is light on while the system power is on. When the system post on
S1(POS-Power On Suspend) or S3(STR-Suspend To RAM),this LED will shine every
second.
NOTE: When the system can't boot, but the Power/Standby LED (PWR-LED) is
shining, please check whether the CPU or the memory install well.

Power Connector: ATX
Install PCI Express x16 Graphics Card(s)

This motherboard provides 2x PCI-E 16X slots and 1X PCI-E 1X slot, supports single
PCI Express x16 graphics card, 2 pieces NVIDIA SLI graphics cards or 2 pieces ATI
Crossfire graphics cards. If you have a single graphics card, please insert it in
PCIE16XP1;if you want to install a SLI platform, please insert two SLI ready
graphics cards to the 2 PCI-E 16X slots, and then you need to install the SLI bridge; if
you want to install a CrossFire platform, please insert two CrossFire ready graphics
cards to the 2 PCI-E 16X slots.
NOTE: You must install the driver that the graphics cards need to install the SLI or
CrossFire.
