TheLISNmustbesecurelyfastenedtotheearthgroundbeforemakinganyconnectionsto
externalpower.PropergroundingoftheLISNnotonlyensurescorrectconductedemissions
measurementsandalsopreventspotentialhighleakagecurrentfrompresentingahazardtest
personnel.TohelpestablishpropergroundingthebottomsurfaceoftheLISNisunpainted.In
addition,thebottomplatehasholesforsecurelyboltingtheLISNtothegroundplane.
OnlyconnectEUTswithpowerplugwithaprotectiveearthcontactshouldbeinsertedintoLISN
powerinputport.Theprotectiveactionmustnotbenegatedbytheuseofacheaterplugoran
extensioncordwithoutaprotectiveconductor.
Maintenance
Therearenouserserviceablepartsinsidetheunit.UsermodificationstotheLISNswillvoid
warrantyandmayalsoinvalidatethecalibration.SendtheLISNtoauthorizedCom‐Power

5.0 Warranty
Com‐PowerwarrantstoitsCustomersthattheproductsitmanufactureswillbefreefrom
defectsinmaterialsandworkmanshipforaperiodof3years.Thiswarrantyshallnotapplyto:
•Transportdamagesduringshipmentfromyourplant.
•Damagesduetopoorpackaging.
•Productsoperatedoutsidetheirspecifications.
•ProductsImproperlymaintainedormodified.
•Consumableitemssuchasfuses,powercords,cables,etc.
•Normalwear
•Calibration
•ProductsshippedoutsidetheUnitedStateswithoutthepriorknowlegeofCom‐
Power.
Inaddition,Com‐Powershallnotbeobligedtoprovideserviceunderthiswarrantytorepair
damageresultingfromattemptstoinstall,repair,serviceormodifytheinstrumentby
personnelotherthanCom‐Powerservicerepresentatives.
UndernocircumstancesdoesCom‐Powerrecognizeorassumeliabilityforanyloss,damage
orexpensearising,eitherdirectlyorindirectly,fromtheuseorhandlingofthisproduct,or
anyinabilitytousethisproductseperatelyorincombinationwithanyotherequipment.
Whenrequestingwarrantyservices,itisrecommendedthattheoriginalpackagingmaterial
beusedforshipping.Damageduetoimproperpackagingwillvoidwarranty.

5.1Maintenance
Thisproductcontainnouserserviceablepartsinside.Iftheunitdoesnotoperateorneeds
calibration,pleasecontactCom‐PowerCorporation.Donotinstrumentcover.Any
modificationsorrepairsperformedontheunitbysomeoneotherthananauthorizedfactory
trainedtechnicianwillvoidwarranty.
Theexteriorsurfacemaybecleanedwithmilddetergentandthenbewipedwithadry,clean,
lint‐freecloth.Usecaretoavoidliquidsorotherforeignobjectsenteringthechassis.

Thisswitchallowsmeasurementofnoisefromeachline.Thelinethatisnotbeingmeasuredis
automaticallyterminatedinternallybya50Ωterminator.However,thepowertoEUTis
uninterrupted.
6.5Groundingbolt(GND)
Theboltmarked'GND'onbackpaneloftheLISNisusedforextragroundingwithabraidor
shortwire.ThisisinadditiontomountingtheLISNontheRFgroundplaneusingconductive
bottomsurface.

7.0 LISNTheory
7.1Overview
LineImpedanceStabilizationNetworksusedsupplystandardizedlineimpedancetotheEUT
duringconductedemissionstestingwhichisindependentoftheexternalpowerlineimpedance.
ThestandardizedimpedanceenablesconsistentreadingsforRFnoisemeasurementsonthe
powerline.ThemodelLI‐215AconsistsoftwoseparateLISNnetworkshousedinasingle
enclosurefortestingEUTswithsinglephasepowerrequirementsdownto9kHz.
Inadditiontoprovidingstandardizedimpedance,theLISNalsoactsasalowpassfilterforthe
powertoequipmentundertest.TheLISNblocksRFnoisefromthepowerlinefromreachingthe
equipmentundertest,however,thepowertotheequipmentpassesthroughtheLISNwith
minimaleffect.ThisfiltercomprisesoftwostagelowpassLCfilters.Therefore,therearetwo
capacitorsandtwoinductorsforthefilters.ThetwoinductorsusedintheLI‐215Aareaircore
typetoeliminatethepossibilityofsaturationandtoprovidestability.
TheLISNalsoprovidesalowimpedancepathfortheRFnoisefromtheEUTtothemeasuring
equipment,therebyfacilitatingthemeasurementoftheRFnoise.Theinsertionlossofthe
measurednoisemaybesignificantatlowfrequency.Therefore,atfrequenciesbelow400kHz,
theinsertionlosscorrectionfactormustbecompensatedforhighestaccuracynoise
measurement.
