Comway product configuration software can connect DTU or RTU through serial
ports, Ethernet, WIFI and VPN networks, etc., and can configure Comway's 4G DTU and
RTU products. Due to the limitation of the software interface, the setting of more complex
functions needs to refer to the "COMWAY 4G DTU Extended AT Command Set", and
realize it through AT command configuration.
1. Install and run 4G DTU configuration software:
Download and unzip the configuration file, run " dtu_config.exe ” to see the interface
as shown below:
Select 4G DTU general configuration in the product list to read and configure
parameters.
2. Configuring the Software Dashboard
In the configuration page list as shown above , select Dashboard. On the right
interface, first connect the DTU through the serial port or network port.
1) Methods for a computer to connect to the DTU:
The 4G DTU configuration software can connect the DTU through the serial port,
Ethernet port or WIFI of the computer, as shown in the figure below

2) Connect DTU via serial port
serial port number of the computer connected to the DTU (click Update in the
drop-down menu to display all available serial ports) and related communication
parameters: baud rate and parity bit.
DTU factory default serial port parameters: baud rate 115200, data bit 8, stop bit 1,
check bit no.
Do not insert the SIM card when connecting the DTU through the serial port (the
power will be turned off when inserting and unplugging the SIM card) to prevent the DTU
serial port from entering the data connection mode.
Correctly set serial port parameters , click : connect device .
When the user cannot connect to the dtu through the serial port normally, you can
run the configuration software first , click "connection in configuration mode" , and "wait
for the device to be powered on to enter the configuration mode" appears, and then
power on the device . (note the order of operations)

After the serial communication is normal, it will display "Device connection is
successful".
At this point, click the " Read from Device " button to correctly read the existing
configuration parameters of the DTU.
3) Via Ethernet or VPN connection DTU:
DTU IP in the "Connection Parameters" field Address (default 1 92.168.1.251 ), VPN
IP (need to run vpn-client software first) and click " Connect Device ".

After "Device connection is successful" is displayed, click " Read from device " to
obtain the internal parameters of D TU .
4) Via WIFI Connect DTU
For DTUs with WIFI labels produced after 2020, the WIFI hotspot mode is enabled
by default, and the default IP address is also 192.168.1.251. First, through the WIFI of the
laptop, search for the DTU hotspot, the hotspot name is the 12-digit product serial
number of DTU, and the connection password: comway666.
5) Read device parameters and save parameters to configuration file :
In the following interface, click " Read from Device " to read all the configuration
parameters saved in the dtu.
In the following interface, click " Save to Device ", which will save the existing
parameters in the configuration software to the dtu at one time.

Click the Save to stored button to save the configuration parameters modified by the
user in the form of a file, which is convenient to directly read the configuration file and
quickly complete the DTU configuration in the future.
Click the " Load from device " button to directly read the configuration parameters
from the already configured settings file, and cooperate with the " Save to Device "
button to quickly configure the DTU parameters. The operation steps are as follows:
1: Enter the file name, 2: Click "+" to create a new file, 3: Click "Save to Pre-saved
Configuration".
6) Send the at command through the debugging tool
Not all AT commands are displayed in the interface of the configuration software.
Sometimes it is necessary to directly input AT commands for debugging. To do this, you
can use the AT command debugging tool, click to enter: Command mode, you can enter
the AT command, and then click: Send the commandline, thereby executing the AT
command, and the result is displayed in the following window.

The basic flow of operation of the configuration software :
WRITE SAVE CONFIGURATION RESET DTU RUN
Write the command to save the configuration and restart the DTU modification to
take effect
3. DTU connects to internet or apn private network:
1) 4G connection to INTERNET or APN private network:
After inserting the SIM card, the PWR light of the DTU is always on, that is, the
connection to the Internet is realized. When connecting to the APN private network, you
need to set the APN address of the private network card in "Advanced Setting", as
shown in the figure below.

2) Connect to INTERNT or private network via a local router:
DTU has a Ethernet (WL-4010/4011/4050/L-4015 and other models) and WIFI,
which can be connected to a local area network or WIFI, and connected to the Internet
through a broadband router.
When connecting to the Internet through the Ethernet, if the IP address of the router
is: 192.168.1.1, the settings are as follows:
When connecting to the Internet through WIFI, on the "WIFI Settings" page, set
"Open WIFI Terminal", set the name and password of the connected hotspot, and the
authentication encryption method, and then set the correct IP address, as shown in the

following figure:
4. 4G DTU socket communication parameter configuration
Select the serial communication main server configuration page , the configuration
process is as follows:
Choose a communication protocol
Set the server address and port number. The server address can be a fixed IP
address or a dynamic domain name.
Select the server connection method
The working mode of the DTU can be selected as constant mode or manual
mode .
Constant connection mode means that after the DTU is powered on, it
automatically connects to the pre-set server, and reconnects immediately after
disconnection;
manual mode means that after the DTU completes startup, the serial port enters
the AT command mode, which can realize SMS sending and receiving or other
needs to respond Application scenarios of AT commands.

Set DTU serial communication parameters
You can set the communication parameters of the DTU serial port: baud rate,
data bits, stop bits and parity bits . These parameters need to be exactly the
same as the serial communication parameters of the connected device to
ensure the normal serial communication.
The following descriptions are given according to the communication protocol:
Protocol 0 : TRANSPARENT ( Tcp/ip protocol),
Protocol 1: COM WAY protocol (private protocol for connecting comway
Dc-vcom software),
Protocol 2: ID _TRANSPARENT (Tcp/ip + ID mode)
1) COMWAY Protocol
Comway protocol is a communication protocol developed by Comway IOT
communication Corp. based on the TCP/IP protocol, and is only used to establish a
connection with the COMWAY Dc-vcom software. The specific configuration is shown in
the following interface:
Server configuration page of socket as shown in the figure below , you need to select
1: COMWAY protocol, default server address: ds.fusionunix.com and port number
(9000) , The DTU ‘s 12 -digit barcode is a factory-set unique identification ID number.

2) Transparent transmission protocol :
0 : TRANSPARENT is the standard TCP/IP protocol.
In the interface as shown below, the user can set the content (ASCII code or
hexadecimal data) and time interval of the heartbeat packet. The heartbeat packet is a
data packet sent regularly to prevent the operator from cutting off the connection when
the mobile data communication is idle.
As shown in the figure below, the server downloads the data interval setting to deal
with the accidental disconnection of the communication channel, and the DTU side has
not yet been aware of this unexpected situation (at this time, the DTU is still forwarding
the data received by the serial port, but all the forwarded data will be lost) . If the data
upload interval is set to 240 seconds, if the DTU does not receive data from the server
within 240 seconds, it is considered that the connection with the server is interrupted, and
the DTU will try to re-establish the connection; if it is set to 0, the DTU completely ignores
whether to receive or not. to the data sent from the server.

3) Transparent transmission + ID protocol
Customize registration package text box as shown below. The data of the
registration package can be ASCII code or hexadecimal data. The customize registration
packet is the content in the first tcp packet sent when the DTU and the host computer
establish a connection, which is mostly used as the DTU identification ID number or the
authentication identification code of the socket connection.
5. Network communication configuration
1) Set the network parameters of DTU
In the "Network setting" of the network communication configuration page , set
the IP address of the Ethernet port of the 4G DTU, and its IP address needs to be located
in the same network segment as the connected device.

Intranet devices pass 4G DTU network port connected to internet
Set the gateway address of the intranet device to the 4G DTU IP address, as shown
in the figure below. The PWR light of the DTU is always on, which means that the
INTERNET connection has been established, and the internal network device can
communicate with the external network server program normally through the Ethernet
port.
For example: the computer is connected to the Internet through the DTU network
port, and the IP address is manually set as shown in the figure below.
DNS : Select a common DNS server, such as Google's DNS IP: 8.8.8.8 .

2) VPN communication configuration
VPN IP is the address of the DTU in the VPN network , which is assigned on the
VPN - Server software side.
VPN SERVER is the core node of VPN network. First, it needs to be easily accessed,
that is, it has a public network fixed IP or a public network dynamic IP ; secondly, it needs
to have enough communication bandwidth (related to the specific communication needs
of customers).
If you choose to communicate through the VPN SERVER of Comway IOT
communication Corp. VPN server is set to: 888.comway.com , port: 1276.Network
name, network password and the VPN IP of DTU needs to be assigned by contacting the
technical support of the company.
3) Port mapping configuration
From the external network through the DTU, you need to set the port mapping, and

you can set up to 16 port mappings.
Source port number: It refers to the communication port that can be accessed from
the external network; the target IP is the intranet IP address of the device connected to
the DTU; the target port is the communication port of the intranet device. The target
IP+port should be set as shown above: 192.168.1.2:102 .
For example: the communication port of the S 7-200 Smart PLC is 102 . Therefore,
as shown in the figure above, the source port number is set to 102 , and the target IP is
the IP address of the PLC 's LAN port ; the target port is also 102.
4) Network device IP information
The information of each communication port of the DTU . The communication ports
include: 0: local network port; 1: 4G dial-up port; 2: VPN port; 3: PPTP dial-up port
6. Configure WIFI parameters
Double-click the WIFI Setting page to display the following interface.
The wifi working mode of DTU can be set to AP mode or client mode.
When DTU leaves the factory, the default settings are: enable WIFI, work mode is
AP mode, AP hotspot name is the device serial number of DTU, password: comway666,
enable DHCP mode.

7. Modbus RTU to TCP configuration
4G DTU in the product list of the configuration software MODBUS_RTU2TCP ,
execute "Connect Device" on the main control panel.
In the MODBUS_RTU2TCP configuration page , set the relevant parameters of the

Modbus RTU ( master) to TCP (slave) protocol conversion.
Up to 16 modbus tcp connection devices can be set.
RTU device ID==Configure the device address of the query command sent by
the Scada software
TCP device ID==device address of the Modbus TCP device connected to the
DTU network port
IP address == IP address of the Modbus TCP device connected to the DTU
network port
Port = = the port number of the Modbus TCP device connected to the DTU
network port
8. Modbus TCP to RTU configuration
4G DTU in the program list of the configuration software MODBUS_ TCP 2 RTU ,
execute "Connect Device" on the main control panel .
On the MODBUS_TCP 2RTU configuration page , set the relevant parameters for
converting Modbus rtu to tcp protocol .
Up to 8 Modbus rtu devices can be set , the device index number: 0-7.
Each modbus rtu device needs to set the device ID and port number.
RTU device ID == the address of the modbus rtu device connected to the DTU serial
port.

As shown in the figure below, in Kingview software, the address format of the
MODBUS TCP device: IP[:Port] Address[/TimeOut].
When DTU VPN address: 172.16.11.200 Device address: 1 Communication port:
502, set as shown below.
9. Configuration of advanced options
In the advanced options configuration page , the user can set the following content
1) Choice of TCP or UDP:
TCP or UDP connection , the default "0: No" is TCP connection.
UDP communication is non-connection communication, and the time interval of the
heartbeat packet parameter setting on the Socket configuration page needs to be set no

higher than 20s, otherwise the connection will be easily cut off by the operator, resulting
in communication failure.
2) Enable network management:
You can set and enable network management, download Netview network
management software, and realize remote online reading and modification of DTU
configuration parameters. See related instructions for details .
3) Reboot mode of DTU :
" Restart without SIM card " : It means that DTU can not be registered on the
operator's network due to various possible reasons, such as no signal on site, sim card
not recognized , sim arrears, etc., and DTU automatically restarts at the set time . The
default system restart time without service is 10 minutes. " Restart at Fixed intervals " :
AT+RBTYPE=2 1440 means that the DTU will be forced to restart 1440 minutes after the
DTU starts to power on and run , which is a reliability guarantee mechanism.
4) Scheduled or timed tasks:
The DTU can execute AT commands regularly, and the specific configuration is
carried out in the following interface.

Scheduled tasks can only be set by day, and the time is from 00:00 to 23:59 in a
24-hour format. A maximum of 8 tasks can be set , and the parameter index is 0-7 .
The specific types of scheduled tasks are as follows:
close task
Execute AT commands regularly
Execute AT commands at regular intervals
After each type of task above is configured, click the parameter index option to
switch to the scheduled task that needs to be edited; delete the selected scheduled task
through the task type option "Close Task".
10. Multi-server parallel communication and SMS settings
Multi-server parallel communication settings , click : Multi-server configuration
page , you can set , the relevant parameters are similar to the socket configuration
parameters , each server can choose a different communication protocol.
Click: SMS settings configuration page, you can set configuration parameters
related to receiving SMS messages, as well as enable SMS security mode and mobile
phone number settings.
When SMS security mode is enabled, only the at command sent by the set mobile
phone number will be executed by DTU.
