Wel ome to Control Module’s Genus G1 MARK II Data Colle tion Terminal.
The “Genius of Genus” is that it offers an intelligent Java programming language and enables
ompanies – for the first time – to realize the maximum potential of their workfor e
management terminals, by using them as a powerful interfa e to onne t highly ustomized
appli ations and the databases that fuel them. The Genus open and modular platform is
designed to provide fast, a urate, and reliable data olle tion for any industrial appli ation.
The Genus Terminal is ideal for time and attendan e, workfor e management, employee self-
servi e, shop floor data olle tion, and a ess ontrol. Genus is the intelligent and affordable
de ision for any organization.

Terminal features are labeled in the pi tures below for referen e. Explanations of terminal
features, user interfa e, hardware spe ifi ations and onne tions follow. All items dis ussed
in this user manual apply to both types of Genus G1 or Hardened Terminals.
Terminal Front
The User Interface
The user interfa e offers options for data entry into the Genus G1 MARK II Terminal
through the keypad and/or internal or external ard readers. User output is via a 4 line by
20 hara ter ba klit LCD display. The terminal also has the apability to produ e multiple
sound tones to help guide the user.
The Genus G1 MARK II Terminal offers provisions for additional display ontrol aside
from the ability to write to and lear the entire display. These in lude the ability to lear a
single display line, position the ursor, and sele t the ursor type (invisible, blo k,
unders ore, or blinking unders ore).
A Web Browser Interfa e is integrated with the Genus G1 Mark II Terminal to allow
hanges to onfiguration files, data viewing and development interfa e updates. Some
items overlap between the Offline setup and the Web Browser Interfa e. Individual
settings that do overlap are indi ated by the WBI i on within this do ument.

Terminal Features
Memory Configuration The Terminal is equipped with 32 Mb of dynami
memory, 2 Mb of non-volatile memory for data retention, and 8 Mb of Flash
memory for program storage, and user defined long term storage.
Programmability The Terminal is designed to be a Java- apable embedded
data olle tion platform. Users may reate, load, and exe ute PersonalJava
ompliant appli ations that utilize existing OEM lasses for display, keyboard,
biometri , bar ode, magneti , proximity, smart ard (Mifare, iClass), and
Digital inputs and outputs (DI/DO). A software development kit (SDK) is
available separately that provides development do umentation, development
support, and samples for the use of the OEM lasses.
Data I/O The Terminal provides for program ontrol for three digital inputs, and
Wiegand Data0/Data1 input or output signals. A relay port is also provided for
external low voltage devi es.
Host Interface The Terminal omes with a dedi ated Ethernet port for
onne tion to 10/100 Ethernet networks. DHCP or stati IP address
onfiguration is supported.
Display The Terminal is equipped with a 4 line by 20 hara ter liquid rystal
display (LCD) The full alphanumeri hara ter set is supported. LED ba k-
lighting provides viewing in low light onditions. The display has a CMI
standard lens.
Keypad The Terminal is equipped with a 3 x 8 membrane keypad, with three
horizontal rows of eight keys ea h. The terminal is available with a CMI
Standard Overlay, or a ustom overlay reated per ustomer requirements.
Power The onfiguration uses a +18 VDC .8 amp power pa k to power the
terminal. The power pa k is UL listed and CSA ertified.
Audio Annunciator This is programmable with variable tone and duration
apability.

File System Specification
The Terminal provides file systems on different hardware devi es. Instead of using the
ommon alphabet notation for file system devi es ( ‘A:’, ‘C:’ ), the Genus terminal identifies
the file storage devi es as:

Relay Configuration
The relay port brings out the three relay onne tions at ( ommon, normally open,
normally losed) +18 VDC, and ground. The ommon an optionally be onne ted to
Pin 5 to provide an on board voltage sour e. The urrent draw should not ex eed
100mA. This +18 VDC sour e is useful when driving external buzzers, lamps, or other
low urrent, low voltage devi es or a larger external relay, sin e it requires no external
power sour e.
The Relay Output onfiguration supports both sour ing and non-sour ing. The Relay
is a Form C onta t relay rated for 1 amp @ 30V AC/DC.

Terminal Connections
Terminal onne tions apply to both Genus G1 and G1 Hardened Terminals.

NOTE: All available options are shown, some models may differ.
Ethernet Port
The Ethernet port supports the 10/100BASE-T
network connections. The Ethernet port is
located on the backplate of the Terminal and
connects directly to AT-5 cable.
Note: Power is not available from the Ethernet
port without the jumpered connector on the
Peripheral Power Port.

Serial Aux Port
The Serial Aux port provides a serial connection
to interface to serial peripheral devices or for
modem communications.

Wand / Scanner Port
The wand port provides MI standard pinouts

Data Input/Output (Optional)
The data input/output port provides three digital
inputs and a Wiegand data port. The Wiegand
Data port provides Data0/Data1 input or output
signals. If connected to a reader will accept the
Wiegand data or can transmit Wiegand data to an
external device. A pluggable connector is
supplied with the terminal.

Relay (Optional)
The Relay output configuration supports both
sourcing and non-sourcing. The relay is a Form
contact relay rated for 1 amp @ 30V A /D .
The relay can be used for external low voltage
devices such as control or for monitoring doors,
bells, and alarms.

Power is supplied to the Terminal via a standard
