1 Network Element Overview
1.1.3 Interfaces
The 8602 Smart Router provides the following types of interfaces:
8602-A:
• 2 x 1000BASE-X (SFP transceiver)
• 4x100/1000BASE-T
• Management interface: RS-232 serial (RJ-45 type) and Ethernet ports (management via user ports
possible).
8602-D:
• 6 x 1000BASE-X (SFP transceiver)
• Management interface: RS-232 serial (RJ-45 type) and Ethernet ports (management via user ports

1.1.4 Cooling
The 8602 Smart Router is a free convection-cooled equipment. Thus there are no fans nor air dust
filter. For adequate cooling please follow the installation instructions for the equipment.
The baseboard is able to monitor the equipment temperature. The temperature warning is raised
when the measured temperature exceeds +80 °C/177.8 °F. The warning indicates that the operating
ambient temperature is high and about to exceed the allowed operating range. This will occur at
ambient near +65 °C/149 °F. The equipment will go to reset mode after 15 minutes if the measured
temperature is +90 °C/194 °F or higher or immediately if it is +100 °C/212 °F or higher. This is to
protect the equipment from permanent damage caused by high temperature.
1.2 NE Powering
There are two different powering possibilities for the 8602 Smart Router depending on the product
variant:
• AC: 100 Vac … 240 Vac nominal input voltage range
• DC: -48 Vdc/+24 Vdc nominal input voltage.
The power supply is a separate module inside the 8602 Smart Router. The power module is not
field-replaceable. The power modules, connectors and mechanics are different in each type. The
power module has an isolated AC/DC or DC/DC converter to create the needed supply voltage to
operate the NE.
The AC power module features are the following:
• AC/DC converter
• Input over-current protection (fuse)
•EMIfiltering
