1. INTRODUCTION
The mulcher is designed and built for the upkeep of green areas in vegetable plantations,
vineyards and nurseries, by shredding grass and/or pruning off-cuts. The mulcher can be
connected to any tractor by using the three point coupling.
This manual describes the user
and maintenance instructions and the replacement parts supplied.
This manual is an integral part of the mulcher, it describes the use for which it has been built
and it contains the necessary information to guarantee a correct and safe implementation.
The mulcher is intended for professional use only and should only be operated by specialised
personnel. The mower is designed for professional use and is only consented for specia-
lised operators. The use by minors or people in abnormal physical or mental conditions is

trained is not allowed.
It is the responsibility of the operator to check that the mulcher is in proper working order,
and to repair or replace worn parts, which might cause undue damage.
This agricultural equipment is to be operated only by means of an universal shaft applied to the

3 pinned connection joint. The mulcher’s regular working capability depends on its correct use
and regular maintenance: it is advisable to follow the manual’s instructions so as to avoid any
inconvenience, which could hamper the machine’s functionality. It is also important to comply
with what is laid down in this manual because the Manufacturer declines all responsibility for
the consequences of negligence or failure to comply with these instructions.
The Manufacturer is however entirely at your service to ensure immediate and thorough
technical assistance and everything that may be necessary for the optimum operation and

The current manual refers to a mulcher with the characteristics and accessories supplied and
installed by the manufacturer, and represents the state of technology at the time of purchase
and cannot be considered inadequate, if in the future the machine is upgraded due to new
technological developments.
1.2 Keeping the manual
The manual must be kept in a place suitable for its correct conservation, in order to ensure
its physical integrity. It must be easily accessible to anyone who is authorised to consult it.
The manual constitutes an important document which goes with the mulcher, and all users
must be responsible for its safekeeping.

which states:

maintenance and correct use of particular parts of

3. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH PROTECTION
WARNING!
This danger symbol, used throughout the manual, stands for any standard that could com-
promise your safety and that of other people and the working order of the mower.
There are three levels of danger signals:
DANGER: this signal warns that if the described operations are not carried out properly,
they will cause serious injury, death or long-term health risks

CAUTION: this signal warns that if the described operations are not carried out properly,

EXPOSED PERSON: A person fully or partly in a hazardous area.
OPERATOR: The person or personnel in charge of the installation, the operation, the
adjusting, the cleaning, the repairing and the moving of the machine.
RISK: a combination of the probability and seriousness of the injury or damage to
health which can arise in a dangerous situation.

PROTECTION DEVICE: is a device that reduces risk (unlike the guard) either on its
own or together with the protection.
INTENDED USE: the use of the machine in accordance with the information provided
in the operating instructions.
REASONABLE FORSEEABLE MISUSE: the use of the machine differently from the
information provided in the operator’s instructions, which may be the result of readily
predictable human behaviour.
USER: The person, entity or company which had purchased or rented the machine
and intends to use it for its intended purpose.
SPECIALISED STAFF: These are specially trained staff able to carry out any mainte-
QDQFHRUUHSDLUZRUNUHTXLULQJVSHFL¿FNQRZOHGJHRIWKHPDFKLQHLWVRSHUDWLRQVDIHW\
devices and intervention methods and can understand and therefore avoid hazards
associated with the use of the machine.
AUTHORISED ASSISTANCE CENTRE: The Authorised Assistance Centre, legally au-
thorised by the Manufacturer, is formed by specialised staff able to carry out all types
of assistance, maintenance and repair work, even of a certain complexity, required to
maintain the machine in perfect working order.
Read all the instructions carefully prior to using the machine. If you have any doubts,
contact the Manufacturer’s Concessionaries’ technicians.
The Manufacturer declines all responsibility for non-compliance to the safety and
accident-prevention regulations described below.
3.1 Machine use
1) Pay attention to the danger symbols in this manual and on the mulcher.

8) The connected mulcher can only be driven by a drive shaft complete with the necessary
precautions.
9) Check that all the precautions for transport and operation are properly functional before the
tractor and mulcher are started.
10) The labels attached to the mulcher contain the essential information to avoid accidents:
follow these instructions carefully.

18) Take note of the fact that the road holding, braking and steering ability of the tractor could

19) Before engaging the power take-off, make certain of the rotation speed which has been
selected (should be 540 rpm). Do not mistake the 1000 rpm speed for 540 rpm.
20) It is the operator’s duty before starting the machine to always check that there are no people
and/or animals at a distance not less than 10 metres all around the machine and not less
than 50 metres from the rear end (¿JXUH);
21) Before leaving the tractor, lower the mulcher attached to the lifting device, stop the engine,
apply the parking brake and remove the ignition key from the control panel.

and drive shaft inserted without first having applied the brake and inserted the chocks under
the wheels. Keep at a safe distance from the mulcher out of range from flying debris (50
metres from the rear).
23) Before hitching or unhitching the mulcher from the three point coupling set the lifter control
lever in the locked position.
24) The mulcher attaching pins must correspond with the lifter attachment points.
25) When the mulcher is being transported on the road in the raised position, set the tractor’s
hydraulic lifter control lever in the locked position; when raised the drive-shaft joints are pi-
voted by more than 40° (power take-off at rest), disconnect the drive-shaft from the tractor
PTO.

28) Before engaging the power take-off, make sure that there are no people or animals in the

29) Do not engage the power take-off without the engine running.
30) Always disengage the power take-off when the drive-shaft is at too acute an angle (it should
never be more than10°) and when it is not in use.
31) When it is not required, rest the drive-shaft on the support provided.

33) Prolonged use of the mulcher can cause the transmission and hydraulic system to heat up:
to prevent burning avoid touching these elements.

ATTENTION!
In the event that a tractor without a sound-proofed and pressurised cab is used, the operator
must use protection systems:

- Dust-mask if because of the type of work (dusty soil) a considerable amount of dust is rai-
sed.
3.2 Ergonomics
In the prescribed operating conditions, the discomfort, fatigue, psychological stress and
physical stress of the operator must reduced as much as possible by taking into account the
following ergonomics principles:
- consider the difference in physical dimensions, the strength and the stamina of the opera-
tor;
- the operator must have enough space for body movement;
- the work rhythm should not be dictated by the machine;
- avoiding monitoring that requires lengthy concentration;
- adapt the man to the machine interface to suit the operators foreseeable characteristics.

4.1 Procedure for transport

Remove the protection covering and check
for any damage which may have been
caused during transport, and also:
- check that all the bolts and nuts are tight;
- ensure that the cutter knives mounting
screws Aindicated in ¿JXUH, are properly
fastened to the shaft and are not broken and
that the hammers them selves can swivel
freely;
- check that the drive belts are taut.
Figure 4, Illustrates the method to lift the
mulcher.

weight and dimensions.

4.2 Regulating the Roller
Regulate the roller stand until the cutting hammers don’t come out of the surface made from
the two skids.
In so doing, even if the ground is uneven the cutting hammers will not penetrate the ground
being worked on. It is important to set the mulcher parallel to the ground so as to have an
optimum working condition.
The height must also be adjusted at a third point -Tp - on the tractor (Fig.5).

4.3 Attachment to the tractor

coupled to any tractor equipped with a universal three point coupling.
The Manufacturer declines all responsibility for breakages on the tractor.
The mulcher is equipped with a 1” 3/8 splined power take-off shaft which can be coupled via
a drive shaft to any tractor equipped with a 3 point attachment.
DANGER
Attachment to the tractor is a very dangerous stage: be extremely careful to carry out the
entireoperation following the instructions.
The Manufacturer declines all responsibility for breakages on the mulcher or the tractor conse-
quent on failure to comply with these instructions.
The correct distance between the mulcher and the tractor is determined by the length of
the drive shaft which is extended by 5 to 10 cm from the maximum contraction.
At this point, proceed as follows:
1. Bring the bars of the tractor hitch close, placing them inside plates A, B (Fig.6), insert the
pin in the hole provided and secure with the spring clip.
2. Lock the bars of the lifter on the tractor with the appropriate chains and parallel shackles;
this precaution must be taken to avoid any transverse movement by the mulcher.
3. Engage the drive-shaft and ensure that it is perfectly locked onto the power take-off. Check

drive-shaft.
4. Connect the upper point (C) and perform a correct adjustment with the tie-rod, checking that
the upper surface of the mulcher ends up parallel to the ground. This is very important with
DYLHZWRREWDLQLQJSDUDOOHOLVPEHWZHHQWKHD[LVRIWKHVKDIWRIWKHSRZHUWDNHRIIRQWKH
mulcher and that on the tractor. Operating in these conditions means limiting the stresses
on the power take-off and prolonging the life of the drive-shaft and the mulcher itself.

WARNING
Raise the mulcher from the ground and set the cutting height (see 4.6).
Adjust the position of the mulcher with the lifting rig, so that the mulcher is horizontal
or with the front end slightly higher to facilitate the entry of the material.
4.4 Drive-shaft
The angle at which the drive-shaft is operating must be the minimum possible (10°): this
favours longevity in the drive-shaft and in the mulcher (¿JXUH).
N.B.: At the time of buying the drive-shaft joint, in order to get the right size, always
specify the power required to activate the mulcher.
CAUTION
Carefully read the instruction booklet which the manufacturer of the drive-shaft sup-
plies with it. If it is worn or broken, it must be replaced with a CE-marked drive-shaft
shaft.
CAUTION
The manufacturer of the drive-shaft recommends not modifying the drive-shaft: since
the drive-shaft is a component which rotates at sustained speed, it undergoes balan-

would have repercussions on the functionality of the mulcher itself, as well as on the
integrity of the drive-shaft.
When the drive-shaft is extended to the maximum under any working conditions, the
telescopic tubes must overlap by at least 1/3 of their length, as in (Fig. 7).
When it is closed up to the maximum extent, the minimum play must be 4 cm.
If that is not possible, consult the Technical Service department of the Manufacturer.

to prevent them rotating with the drive-shaft, and check that they are in good condi-
tion.
Check also that the drive-shaft is suitable for transmitting the power required by the
mulcher. In case of doubt, contact the Manufacturer.
CAUTION
Before engaging the power take-off, make certain that the rotation speed corresponds
to that required by the mulcher (540 rpm).

4.5 Before using
Before starting the mulcher the following procedures must be carried out:
- Check that all screws and nuts are tight;
- Check that the machine is in working order, the lubricants are at the correct levels (see
chapter “MAINTENANCE”) and all other wearing parts are in perfect working order;
- Check that the desired working height is well regulated.
4.6 Adjustment of the working height
To adjust the cutting height, raise or lower the supporting skids and the idler roller until the
correct position is obtained.
The following is the procedure necessary for adjusting the working height of the mulcher:
- With the tractor switched off and the parking brake applied, lower the mulcher, gradually
and completely to the ground, using the lifter.
- Adjust the working height so that the knives are at 3 ÷ 4 cm (Fig. 8) from the ground.

4.7 Operation
When the PTO is connected the cutting knives of the mulcher rotate at a ratio proportional
to the motorised cultivator or the tractor.
To get the best performance out of your machine the following precautions have to be ta-
ken:
The best method to shred the material is obtained with the tow vehicle at low speed and high
revolutions: Lower the mulcher’s ground height gradually.
Do not push down the accelerator pedal while the PTO is coupled and to the mulcher when
not working. This could damage both the mulcher and the tractor.
CAUTION
To avoid damage and breakages the speed of the tractor with the mulcher at work
should not exceed 5km/h.
DANGER
Whilst working there is a possibility of stones or other debris being thrown by the
rotating knifes: Check constantly for people, animals or other obstacles in your wor-

CAUTION
When transporting or when the mulcher needs to be lifted from the ground. it is a safe
practice to check that the lifting rig does not raise the machine higher than 30 - 35 cm
above the ground.
Avoid driving on public roads with the mulcher full of dirt, grass or other debris so as not to
mess on the road or cause an obstruction.
