SAFETY RULES
Safe Operation Practices for Ride-On Mowers
IMPORTANT: THIS CUTTING MACHINE IS CAPABLE OF AMPUTATING HANDS AND FEET AND THROWING
OBJECTS. FAILURE TO OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY
OR DEATH.
I. GENERAl-OPERATION
Read, understand,and followall instructionsin the manual
and onthe machine before starting.
Only allow responsible adults, who are familiar with the
instructions,to operate the machine.
Cleartheareaof objectssuchas rocks,toys,wire,etc., which
could be picked up and thrownby the blade.
Be sorethe area isclearofnther people betore mowing. Stop
machine ifanyone entersthe area.
Never carry passengers.
Donotmow inreversaunlessabsolutelynecessary. Always
look down and behindbeforeand while backing.
Be aware of the mowerdischargedirectionand do notpoint
it at anyone. Do notoperate the mower withouteitherthe
entire grass catcheror the guard in place.
Slow down before turning.
Never leave a runningmachine unattended. Alwaysturn off
blades, set parking brake, stop engine, and remove keys
before dismounting.
Tum offblades when not mowing.'
Stop engine before removinggrass catcher or unclogging
chute.
Mow only in daylightor good artificiallight.
Do not operate the machine while under the influence of
alcohol or drugs.
Watch for trafficwhenoperatingnear orcrossingroadways.
Use extra care when loadingor unloadingthe machine into
a traileror truck.
II. SLOPE OPERATION
Slopes are a majorfactor related to loss-of-controland tipover
accidents,which can resultin severe injuryor death. All slopes
requireextracaution. Ifyoucannot backupthe slopeorifyoufeel
uneasyon it, donot mow it.
DO:
Mow up and downslopes, notacross.
Remove obstaclessuchas rocks,tree limbs,eto.
Watch for ho_es, ruts, or bumps. Uneven terrain could
overturn the machine. Taftgrass can hide obstacles.
Useslowspeed. Choose alow gear so that youwillnot have
to stopor shiftwhile on the slope.
Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for wheel
we;ightsor counterweightsto improve star,lilly.
Use extra care with grass catchers or other attachments.
These can change the stabilityofthe machine.
Keepall movementonthe slopesslowand gradual Do not
make suddenchar_s in speed or direction.
Avoidstarting or stoppingon a slope. If tires lose traction,
disengage the blades and proceedslowlystraightdownthe
slope.
DO NOT:
Do notturn onslopesunlessnecessary, andthen, turnslowly
and gradually downhill, if possible.
Do not mow near drop_offs,ditches, or embankments. The
mower could suddenlyturnover ifawheel isover the edge
of a cliff or ditch, or if an edge caves in.
Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced traction could cause
sliding.
Do not try to stabilizethe machice byputtingyourfoot on the
ground.
Do not use grass catcheron steep slopes.
III. CHILDREN
Tragic accidentscan occur if the operator is net alert to the
presence ofchildren. Children are oftenattractedtothe machine
and themowingactivity. Neverassume thatchildrenwillremain
where you last saw them.
Keep children out of the mowing area and under the
watchfulcare of another responsibleadult.
Be alert and turn machineoff if ohildren enter the area.
Before and when backing, look behind and down for small
children.
Never carry children. They may fall off and be seriously
injuredor interfere with the safe machine operation.
Never allow children to operate the machine.
Use extra care when approaching blind corners, shrubs,
trees, or otherobjectsthat may obscurevision.
IV. SERVICE
Useextra care in handling gasolineand otherfuels. They
are flammableand vapors are explosive.
Use only an approved container.
Never remove gas cap or add fuel with the engine
running. Allowengineto cool before retueUng. Do not
smoke.
Never refuelthe machine indoors.
Never storethe machine orfuel container insidewhere
thereisan open flame, suchas awater heater.
Never runa machine insidea closed area.
Keepnuts and bolts,especiallybladeattachmentbolts, tight
and keep equipmentin goodcondition.
Never tamper with safety devices. Check their proper
operation regularly.
Keep machinefree of grass, leaves, orother debrisbuild-
up. Clean oilorfuel spillage. Allow machinetocool before
storing.
Stop and inspectthe equipment if you strike an object.
Repair, if necessary, before restarting.
Never make adjustmentsorrepairswiththe enginerunning.
Grass catcher componentsare subjectto wear, damage,
and detedoretion,which could expose moving parts or
allowob ects to be thrown. Frequentlycheckcomponents
and repace withmanufacturer's recommended parts,when
necessary.
Mower blades are sharpand can cut. Wrap the blade(s) or
wear gloves, and use extra caution when servicingthem.
Check brake operation frequently. Adjust and serviceas
required.

Depress clutch/brake pedalfully and set parking brake.
Place gearshift/motion control lever In "NEUTRAL" position.
Placeattachment clutch in "DISENGAGED" position.
Turn ignition key "OFF" and remove key.
Make sure the blade and all moving parts have completely stopped.
Disconnectspark plug wirefrom spark plug and placewirewhere Itcannot come Incontact
with plug.

OPERATION
TIPS FOR IMPROVED BAGGING
OPERATION:
Followthe mower operation instructionsin your tractor
owner'smanual.
When operatingyourgrasscatcherona lawnwheregrass
and leaf bagging equipmenthasnot been used, you are
pickingupthatchanddebristhathasaccumulatedfor long
periodsoftime. The amountcollectedand thetotaltimeof
operation may be greater than you will experience with
regularuseofyourgrasscatcher.
Alwaysrunthrottleatfull speedwhen bagging.
Selecta gear lowenoughto givegood mowercutting
performance,goodqualitycutandgood baggingper-
formance.
NOTE:IT MAYBENECESSARY TOOVERLAPWIDTH OF
CUTTO SUITYOUR CONDITIONS.
Ifgrassisextremelytall,itshouldbemowedtwice.The
first time relativelyhigh,the secondtime to desired
height.
Use left handsideofmowerfortdmming.
Plastictrashbagscan beinsertedinsidegrasscatcher
containersfor ease ofdebrisdisposalTo removethe
plastictrashbagswhenfull:
a. Raiseseat.Unlatchand raisecover.
b. Remove one container at a timebygraspingcon-
tainerhandlesandpullingtowardtherear,offofthe
tube rails.
c. Withthecontainerrestingontheground,closeand
securethetop ofthe plasticlawnbag.
d. Tipthecontainer onitssideand slidethefilledbag
fromthecontainer.
e. Installa newplasticlawn bag withtheedgesofthe
bag draped over upper lip of the Container (for
replacement bags refer to REPLACEMENT
PARTS).
f. Repeatforothercontainer.
g. Reinstallcontainers makingsure rightcontainer
overlapsleftcontaineratcentersupport.
h. Closecoverand securelatchovercantersupport
tube.
Avoidcutting wetgrassorinthemorningwhilethedew
is stillheavy. Grass clippingscollected under these
conditionstendtobe stickyand adheretothe wallsof
the flowpathcausing clogging.
Yourbaggerisequipped withafullbagger indicator.As
the bags becomefull,movementofthewheelwillslow
downand/orstop, Indicatingthatthebagsarefull orthe
chuteshavebecomeclogged.Careshouldbe taken not
todamagethepartsandthat thewheelspinsfreelyatthe
beginningofeachuse.
Ifthe grasscatcherfails to pickupcutgrassor leaves,
it is an indication that clogginghas occurred in the
system or that the grass catcher containers are full.
Usuallythisisindicatedbythestoppedmovement ofthe
full bagger indicator.
a. Disengage blades, shiftinto neutral,en-
gage the parkingbrake and stopthe engine,
- Raise seat. Unlatch and raisecover.
- Slideoutcontainers and disposeofclippings.
- Replacecontainers; closecover,and latch.
b. Unlatchchutesand check for clogging
- Remove all debrisin chutes.
-Reassembleandlatch chutes
c. Check to insurefull bagger indicatorhas
notbecomeclogged.
- The air passage holemustbe clear of debris.
Gently insert a smalltwig orwire intopassage-
wayto clear.
CAUTION
Do not operate mower with grass catcher
partially Installed,
Disengage blades and stop engine before
leaving tractor seat to empty containers,
unclogging chutes, etc.
Close cover beforestarting.
Disengagemowerwhen crossingdriveways
or gravel surfaces and other areas where
thrown objects could bea hazard.
Do not attempt to vacuum up cans or other
potentially hazardous projectiles.

itthoroughly,removeall dirt,grass, leaves,etc. Storeina
clean,dryplace.
