SLOPE OPERATION
Slopesarea majorfactorrelatedto lossofcontrolandtip-overaccidents
whichcan resultinsevereinjuryordeath.Attachmentscanalsoaffectthe
stabilityofthe machine.All slopesrequireextracaution.
Foryoursafety,usethe slopegaugeincludedaspartofthis manualto
estimatetheangle ofslopesbeforeoperatingthis machineona slopedor hilly
area.Iftheslope isgreaterthan 10degreesasshownonthe slopeguide,do
notoperatethe mowerwiththe grassbagattachmentinstalledonthat areaor
seriousinjurycouldresult.
DO:
1. Mowupanddownslopes,not across.Exerciseextremecautionwhen
changingdirectiononslopes.
2. Watchforholes,ruts,bumps,rocks,or otherhiddenobjects.Uneven
terraincouldoverturnthe machine.Tallgrasscan hideobstacles.
3. Useslowspeed.Choosea lowenoughspeedsettingsothatyouwill not
havetostopor shiftwhileonthe slope.Tiresmaylosetractiononslopes
eventhoughthe brakesarefunctioningproperly.Alwayskeepmachine
in gearwhengoingdownslopesto takeadvantageofenginebraking
action.
4. Followthe manufacturer'srecommendationsfor wheelweightsor
counterweightsto improvestability.
5. Keepall movementontheslopesslowand gradual.Do notmakesud-
denchangesin speedor direction.Rapidengagementor brakingcould
causethefrontofthe machineto liftand rapidlyflip overbackwards
whichcouldcauseseriousinjury.
6. Avoidstartingor stoppingon aslope.Iftires losetraction,disengagethe
blade(s)andproceedslowlystraightdownthe slope.
DO NOT:
1. Do notturnon slopesunlessnecessary;then,turnslowlyand gradually
downhill,ifpossible.
2. Do notmowneardrop-offs,ditchesor embankments.Themowercould
suddenlyturnoverif a wheelisoverthe edgeof acliff,ditch,or if an
edgecavesin.
3. Do nottry tostabilizethe machinebyputtingyourfooton theground.
4. Do notusea grasscatcheronsteepslopes.
5. Do notmowonwet grass.Reducedtractioncouldcausesliding.
GENERAL SERVICE
1. Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,makecertainthe blade(s)
and all movingpartshavestopped.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireand
groundagainsttheenginetopreventunintendedstarting.
2. Keepallnuts, bolts,and screwstightto besurethe equipmentisin safe
workingcondition.
3. Nevertamperwith yourmower'ssafetyinterlocksystemor othersafety
devices.Checktheirproperoperationregularly.
4. Neverattemptto makeadjustmentsor repairswhilethemower'sengine
is running.
5. Grasscatchercomponentsandthe dischargecoveraresubjectto wear
and damagewhichcouldexposemovingpartsor allowobjectsto be
thrown.Forsafetyprotection,frequentlycheckcomponentsand replace
immediatelywith originalequipmentmanufacturer's(O.E.M.)partsonly,
listedinthis manual.Useof partswhichdonot meetthe originalequip-
mentspecificationsmayleadto improperperformanceandcompromise
safety!

Tochecktheslope,proceedasfollows:
1. Removethis pageandfold alongthedashedline.
2. Locateaverticalobjectonor behindthe slope(e.g.a pole,building,fence, tree,etc.)
3. Aligneithersideof theslopegaugewiththe object(SeeFigure1 andFigure2 ).
4. Adjustgaugeup or downuntilthe left cornertouchestheslope(SeeFigure1 andFigure2).

If thereisa gapbelowthe gauge,theslope istoo steepfor safeoperation(SeeFigure2 above).

in excessof 10degrees. Allslopes requireextra caution,if youcannot back upthe slope or if youfeel uneasyon it, do not mowit.

Assemblingthe MountingHardware
1. Ifnotalreadyinstalledbythefactory,installashoulderboltfromyour
hardwarepackontoeachbracket,securingthemwith flangelocknutsalso
includedinthehardwarepackincludedwiththesebrackets.RefertoFigure1.
2. Ifalreadyinstalledinthebrackets,removetheclevispinsandclips,retainfor
laterinstuctions.Referto Figure1.

AssembleMounting 8rackets
Toassemblethebaggermountingassembly,locatethehitchbracketkitandfollow
thesesteps:
I. Attachtheright-handandlefthandriderhitchbrackettotheuniversalrear
attachmentbracketusingthefourcarriagebolts(710-0276)andflangelock
nuts(712-04063)packedwith themountingbrackets.Positionthebrackets
with thehooksontheright-handandleft handriderhitchbracketpointing
downward,andthetabsontheuniversalrearattachmentbracketpointing
upwards.SeeFigure3.
