CARRYING THE POLE SAW =Always
carry the saw by gripping the fiberglass
pole at its balance point with the saw
chain in front of you for easy visibility.
MAINTAIN UNIT WITH CARE - Keep
the unit clean for best performance
and to reduce the risk of injury. Follow
instructions for service. Keep handles
dry, clean, and free from oil and
grease,
AVOID UNINTENTIONAL STARTING
- Don't carry the appliance while
holding the switch area. The unit is
shipped partly charged, and may start
inadvertently if not handled properly.
CHECK DAMAGED PARTS -If
any component of the appliance
experiences a hard impact, check that
no parts were damaged and verify that
the unit operates properly. Check for
misalignment or bending of moving
parts, breakage of parts, and any other
condition that may affect operation.
A part that is damaged should be
properly repaired or re-placed by an
authorized service center.

BEFOREYOUSTART THE SAW,
make sure the saw chain is not
contacting anything.
CHECK DAMAGED PARTS - Before
further use of the pole saw, a part
that is damaged should be carefully
checked to determine that it will
operate properly and perform its
intended function. Check for alignment
of moving parts, breakage of parts,
mounting, and any other conditions
that may affect its operation. A part
that is damaged should be properly
repaired or replaced by an authorized
service center unless otherwise
indicated elsewhere in this instruction
manual.

NEVER OPERATE the pole saw within
50 feet of overhead electrical lines.
Failure to observe this precaution
could result in severe injury.
NEVER STAND DIRECTLY under
the limb being cut. Falling limbs could
cause severe injury.
KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN
CONSIDER WORK AREA
ENVIRONMENT. Use extreme caution
when cutting small size brush and
saplings because the slender material
may catch the chain and be whipped
toward you or pull you off balance.
WHEN CUTTING A LIMB that is under
tension, be alert for spring-back so that
you will not be struck when the tension
in the wood fibers is released.
DO NOT USE pole saw in the rain.
DO NOT USE pole saw in damp or wet
locations.
DO NOT USE pole saw in the
presence of flammable liquids or
gases.
WHEN NOT IN USE, pole saw should
be stored in a dry, and high or locked-
up place - out of the reach of children.
ALWAYS USE THE BLADE
SCABBARD when carrying or storing
the pole saw.
ONLY CUT WOOD with the pole saw.
DO NOT USE the pole saw for
purpose not intended. For example
- do not use chain saw for cutting
plastic, masonry, or non-wood building
materials.
WARNING: KICKBACK may occur
when the nose or tip of the guide bar
touches an object, or when the wood
closes in and pinches the saw chain in
the cut. Tip contact in some cases may
cause a lightning fast reverse reaction,
kicking the guide bar up and back

THE FOLLOWING PRECAUTIONS
should be followed to minimize
kickback:
GRIP SAW FIRMLY = Hold the pole
saw firmly with both hands when the
motor is running. Use a firm grip
with thumb and fingers of one hand
encircling the control handle, and the
thumb and fingers of the other hand
encircling the fiberglass pole.
DO NOT OVERREACH.
KEEP PROPERFOOTING and
batanceatalttimes.
DO NOT LET the nose of the guide
bar contact a tog, branch, ground or
other obstruction.
ONLY USE REPLACEMENT bars and
chains specified by the manufacturer.
Store these instructions by folding in
half and sliding into the slot in the back
of the walt charging rack.

CAUTION: Do not use a replacement
chain unless:
It has been designated as
meeting the ANSI B175
kickback performance
requirements on that specific
powerhead;
It has been designated as
"Low-Kickback" saw chain
in accordance with ANSI
B175.1; or
It is the saw manufacturer's
replacement catalogue (or
equivalent) number.
Low-Kickback saw chain is a chain
which has met the kickback performance
requirements of ANSI B175.1 when
tested on the representative sample of
chain saws.
Glossary of Terms
Drive Sprocket or Sprocket - The
toothed part that drives the saw chain.
Guide Bar-A solid railed structure that
supports and guides the saw chain.
Guide Bar Scabbard - Enclosure fitted
over the guide bar to prevent contact
with the saw chain when the pole saw
is not in use.
Kickback - The backward and upward
motion, or both of the guide bar
occurring when the saw chain near the
nose of the top area of the guide bar
contacts any object such as a log or
branch, or when the wood closes in and
pinches the saw chain in the cut.
Low-Kickback Chain - A chain
that complies with the kickback
performance requirements of ANSI
B175.1-1991 when tested on a
representative sample of chain saws.
Reduced Kickback Guide Bar
-A guide bar which has been
demonstrated to reduce kickback
significantly.
Replacement Saw Chain -A chain
that complies with the kickback
performance requirements of ANSI
B175.1-1991 when tested with specific
chain saws. It may not meet the ANSI
performance requirements when used
with other saws.
Saw Chain - A loop of chain having
cutting teeth, that cut the wood, and
that is driven by the motor and is
supported by the guide bar.
Spiked Bumper (Spike) - The pointed

toothorteethforusewhenpruningto
pivotthesawandmaintainposition
whilesawing.
Switch- Adevicethatwhenoperated
willcompleteorinterruptanelectrical
powercircuittothemotorofthepole
saw.
Switch Lockout - A moveable stop that
prevents the unintentional operation d
the switch until manually actuated.
INSTALLING AND REMOVING THE
SAW CHAIN
WARNING: Sharp moving blade. To
prevent accidental starting, always
remove the battery before installing
or removing the saw chain. Failure to
do so could result in serious personal
injury.
CAUTION: Sharp moving blade.
Always wear gloves when installing
or removing the saw chain. The saw
chain is sharp and can cut you even
when it is not moving.
Put the saw head on a fiat stable
surface. Remove the two socket
head screws using the provided
wrench (stored in the side of the
saw head housing) by turning them
counterclockwise. (see figure 1)
loosen the chain. (see figure 2) Lift the
chain away from the sprocket and out
of the groove in the guide bar.

To replace the chain, make sure that
the slot in the guide bar is over the 2
locating pins and that the adjustment
pin is in the hole below the slot. (see
figure 3)

Place the chain in the groove of the
guide bar and over the sprocket. Be
sure that the teeth on the saw chain
are facing the correct direction. The
arrows on the chain on the top side
of the bar should point forward. (see
figure 4)

ADJUSTINGSAW CHAIN TENSION
With the battery removed from the
power handle, pull the center of the
chain away from the bar at the center
of the bar with your fingers (always
wear gloves). The tension is correct
when you can pull the chain 1/8"
from the bar and it snaps back when
released. (see figure 5) The chain
should not sag away from the bar.

chain is the correct tension, tighten the
two socket head screws that hold the
bar clamp in place.
Do not over-tighten the chain as this
will lead to premature wear of the
chain and bar. Over-tightening can
also reduce battery life and cause the
circuit breaker to trip.
Check the tension on the chain often
when it is new. New chain stretches in
the initial few hours of use.
OILING THE CHAIN
Oil the chain before each use with
unused SAE30 weight motor oil or saw
chain oil. Lubricate the chain along its
entire length.

Be sure to follow the following safety
precautions when attaching and
detaching tools from the power handle.
Remove the battery from the handle
before attaching or detaching tools.
Never touch the control switches on
the power handle when attaching and
detaching tools
To attach the pole to the power
handle:
1. Twist the lock ring on the power
handle to the unlocked position. (see
figure 6)

To attach the saw head to the pole:
1. Twist the lock ring on the pole to the
unlocked position. (see figure 9)

3. Grasp the pote firmly with one hand
and twist the lock ring on the power
handle to the locked position with the
other hand.(see figure 8)

2. Insert the male end of the pole
interface into the female socket in
the end of the saw head making sure
that it is firmly seated. The interface is
keyed so that it will only go together
one way. The pole and saw head
should go together easily. If you
experience resistance in putting them
together, check that the keys on the
pole are properly aligned with the slots
in the saw head.
3. Grasp the saw head firmly with one
hand and twist the lock ring on the pole
to the locked position with the other
hand. (see figure 10)

To turn the tool on:
1. Grip the control grip firmly with one
hand and grip the extension pole on
the pole saw with the other hand.
2. Push the trigger that your thumb
rests on straight forward, this is the
safety release or switch lockout. (see
figure 14)

EXTENDING THE POLE
To extend the pole, lay the pole saw
on a horizontal surface. Hold the black
hand grip on the bottom section of the
pole with one hand while turning the
red hand grip counterclockwise with
the other hand. Slide the extension
pole to the desired length and tighten
by turning the red hand grip clockwise.
(see figure 17)
To turn the tool off:
1. Release the control and the tool will
turn off. The thumb switch will return
to the rearward position to prevent
accidental re-starting of the tool.
OVERLOAD PROTECTION
The pole saw attachment incorporates
a circuit breaker which will protect
the hedge trimmer in the event of

length with the pole saw standing
vertically. The top section of the pole
could descend rapidly and pinch your
hand.
PIVOTING THE SAW HEAD
The pole is designed to pivot at the top
end to allow the saw head to contact
branches in the most advantageous
position. To pivot the saw head,
squeeze the two black buttons at
the top of the pole (only the left side
button will actually depress), pivot the
saw head to the desired position, and
release the buttons to lock the saw
head in place. (see figure 18)

PRUNING WITH THE POLE SAW
HOLDING THE POLE SAW - Hold the
pole saw firmly with both hands when
the motor isrunning. Use a firm grip
with thumb and fingers of one hand
encircling the control handle, and the
thumb and fingers of the other hand
encircling the fiberglass pole. (see
figure 19)

USING THE POLE SAW =Atways be
sure of your footing and hold the pole
saw firmly with both hands while the
motor is running.
NEVER STAND ON A LADDER -
Only operate the pole saw with both
feet planted firmly on the ground.
OVERHEAD ELECTRICAL LINES
- Never operate the pole saw within
50 feet of overhead electrical lines,

saw chain along the top of the guide
bar may push the guide bar rapidly
back towards the operator. Either of
these reactions may cause you to lose
control of the saw which could result in
serious injury to user.
To Cut Branches From a Tree:
Make sure the saw is running before
attempting to make a cut.
Using light pressure make a cut on
the underside of the branch six inches
from the trunk using the top side of the
chain. This cut should be no deeper
than 1/3 the thickness of the branch.

Then make the final cut from the top of
the branch using the bottom side of the
chain. (see figure 20)

Making the initial cut on the underside
of the branch will prevent the branch
from splintering when it falls away from
the tree. Never try to cut the branch
completely from the underside. This
will cause the branch to bind on the
chain and could stall the motor causing
damage to the saw.
Do not stop the saw until after it is
removed from the cut. Release the
trigger to stop the saw. Be sure the
chain has come to a complete stop
before setting the pole saw down. The
chain will immediately become dull if it
contacts the ground while still running.
WALL BRACKET
Mount the wall bracket securely to
the wall; attach with screws to a wall
stud. The use of wall board anchors
is NOT recommended. Place the tool
attachment in the walt bracket as
shown for convenient storage. (see
figure 21)

when performing any maintenance on
the power handle or a tool attachment
that is connected to the power handle.
WARNING: Always keep hands away
from the triggers when performing
maintenance.
LUBRICATION - See operating
instructions for specific information
on lubricating the chain. Periodic
lubrication of other parts is not
required.
CLEANING OF PLASTIC PARTS
- Use only a dry brush or a cloth
with warm water and mild soap to
clean plastic parts. Many household
cleaners contain chemicals which
could damage the plastic. Never use
gasoline, turpentine, paint thinner or
similar fluids. Never spray-wash tool
or immerse in water. Water or liquid
inside the tool can cause serious
damage to the unit.
DROPPING THE UNIT - If you drop
the unit, carefully inspect it for any
damage before using it again. Have
the unit professionally repaired if
damage has occurred.

TEMPERATURE - Temperature
extremes limit the useful life of the
battery. The best storage place is one
that is cool and dry. Store the tool
away from direct sunlight, heating
pipes, furnaces, etc. Do not store
where temperatures go below +40 F or
above +120 F.
PREVENTING CORROSION =
Fertilizers and other garden chemicals
contain compounds that greatly
accelerate the corrosion of metals. Do
not store the appliance on or adjacent
to fertilizers or chemicals.
REPLACEMENT PARTS - For
optimum cutting results and the
assurance of top performance, it
is recommended that only Sears
Craftsman replacement blades and
cutting line be used.
WARNING: Use only Craftsman
accessories and replacement parts
available from Sears. Use of non-
Craftsman accessories could be
hazardous. Call 1-800-366-PART.
BATTERY RECYCLING - To preserve
natural resources, please recycle or
dispose of this product's NICKEL-
CADMIUM (NiOd) BATTERY
properly. Local, state and federal laws
prohibit disposal of NiCd batteries
in ordinary trash. The manufacturer
is a participant in the Rechargeable
Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC)
recycling program. We have paid
a fee to allow for these batteries to
be properly disposed of via a RBRC
collection site (various retailers are
also RBRC participants). Please call

interruptor no se enciende ni se apaga.
NO OPERE el cortarramas si esta
dafiado, siesta mal regulado o si
no esta ensambtado completa y
correctamente. AsegOrese de que la
cadena de sierra se detenga cuando

NUNCA OPERE EL CORTARRAMAS
mientras esta parado sobre una
escalera.
NO TALE ARBOLES con et
cortarramas.
ASEGORESE DE tener una via de
escape para protegerse de las ramas
que caen.
SIEMPRE DEJE UN ESPACIO para
que tas ramas caigan libremente al

MANTENGAA LOS NINOS,

menos a 50 pies (15 m) de distancia

menos de 50 pies (15 m) de distancia
de cables etectricos aereos. Si no

fino puede atascar la cadena
y salir disparado hacia usted o

CUANDO CORTE UNA RAMA que
esta bajo tensi6n, este atento al efecto
rebote para que no se golpee cuando
se libera la tensi6n de las fibras de la
madera.
NO USE et cortarramas bajo ta ttuvia.
NO USE et cortarramas en tugares
hQmedos o mojados.
NO USE el cortarramas en presencia
de liquidos o gases inflamables.
CUANDO NO LO USE, debe guardar
et cortarramas en un tugar seco,
etevado o cerrado, fuera det alcance
de los ni_os.
USE SIEMPRE LA FUNDA DE LA
HOJA cuando transporte o guarde et
cortarramas.
SOLAMENTE CORTE MADERA con
et cortarramas.
NO USE el cortarramas para fines no
previstos. Pot ejemplo: no use la sierra

o materiales de construcci6n que no

ADVERTENClA: Puede ocurrir et
RETROCESO cuando et extremo o la
punta de la barra guia toque un objeto,

aprieta la cadena de sierra en et corte.
El contacto de la punta en algunos
casos puede provocar una reacci6n
inversa rapida tipo retampago, en la
que la barra guia golpea hacia arriba
y hacia atras y se vuetve hacia et
operador. Si se aprieta ta cadena de
sierra a 1olargo de la parte superior
de la barra guia esto puede empujar
la barra guia rapidamente hacia
et operador. Cuatquiera de estas
reacciones puede hacerlo perder et
control de ta sierra y provocar lesiones
graves al usuario.
Se deben seguir tas SIGUIENTES
PRECAUClONES para reducir et
retroceso:
AGARRE LA SIERRA FIRMEMENTE:
Sostenga et cortarramas firmemente
con ambas manos cuando et motor
este en funcionamiento. Agarre
firmemente con et pulgar y los dedos
de una mano rodeando et mango de
control, y el putgar y los dedos de la
otra mano rodeando et mastit de fibra
de vidrio.
NO SE ESTIRE DEMASIADO.
MANT_:NGASE BIEN PARADO y con
equitibrio en todo momento.
NO DEJE que la punta de la barra
guia entre en contacto con un tronco,
una rama, con et sueto o con otra
obstrucci6n.
UTILICE SOLO BARRAS Y
CADENAS DE REPUESTO
especificadas por et fabricante.
Guarde estas instrucciones
dobtandolas pot la mitad y
deslizandolas pot la ranura que esta
en ta parte trasera det soporte det
cargador de pared.
GUARDE ESTAS INSTRUCCIONES
PRECAUCION: No utitice una cadena
de repuesto a menos que:

Funda de la barra guia: recinto adaptado
sobre la barra guia para impedir et
contacto con la cadena de la sierra
cuando et cortarramas no se usa.
Retroceso: el movimiento hacia atras
y hacia arriba o de la barra guia que
ocurre cuando la cadena de la sierra que
esta cerca de ta punta det area superior
de ta barra guia entra en contacto con
cualquier objeto, por ejemplo, un tronco
o una rama, o cuando la madera se
acerca y aprieta ta cadena de ta sierra
en et corte.
Cadena de bajo retroceso: cadena
que cumple con los requisitos de
rendimiento de retroceso de la norma
B175.1-1991 detANSl segQn ta prueba
en la muestra representativa de sierras
dentadas.
Barra guia de retroceso
reducido: barra guia que tiene
acci6n demostrada para reducir
considerablemente et retroceso.
Cadena de sierra de repuesto: cadena
que cumple con los requisitos de
rendimiento de retroceso de la norma
B175.1-1991 detANSl segQn la prueba
con sierras de cadena especificas.
Es posibte que no se cumpla con los
requisitos de rendimiento det ANSI
cuando se usa con otras sierras.
Cadena de sierra: bucle de cadena
que tiene dientes cortantes que cortan
la madera y que estan impulsados pot
et motor y apoyados por ta barra guia.
Tope puntiagudo (en punta): et diente
o los dientes afilados para et uso
cuando se recorta para girar la sierra
y mantener ta posici6n durante et
aserrado.
Interruptor: dispositivo que cuando
se opera completa o interrumpe un
circuito de energia electrica hacia et
motor det cortarramas.
Btoqueo det interruptor: detenci6n
m6vit que impide et funcionamiento
accidental det interruptor hasta que se
1oaccione manualmente.
INSTALAR YRETIRAR LA CADENA
DE LA SIERRA
ADVERTENCIA: Hoja m6vit afilada.
Para impedir et arranque accidental,
retire siempre ta bateria antes de
instalar o retirar ta cadena de la sierra.
Si no to hace podria provocar tesiones
personales graves.
PRECAUCION: Hoja m6vit afilada.
Use siempre guantes cuando instale o
retire ta cadena de la sierra. La cadena
de ta sierra es afilada y puede cortarlo
aunque no este en movimiento.
Coloque et cabezal de la sierra sobre
una superficie estabte y plana. Retire
los dos tornitlos de cabeza hueca
usando la tlave provista (que viene en
et costado det alojamiento det cabezal
de la sierra) girandolos en sentido
antihorario. (vet figura 1)

Retire la cubierta de la rueda dentada,
la abrazadera de ta barra y los tornitlos
de cabeza hueca.
Retire la cadena girando los tornitlos
de cabeza hueca en ta parte detantera
det cabezal de la sierra en sentido
antihorario para que se afloje ta
cadena. (vet figura 2) Levante la
cadena para sacarta de la rueda
dentada y de la muesca de la barra
guia.

Coloque la cadena en la muesca de
la barra guia y encima de ta rueda
dentada. Aseg_rese de que los
dientes de la cadena de ta sierra esten
orientados en et sentido correcto. Las
flechas de la cadena en et costado
superior de la barra deben apuntar
hacia adetante. (vet figura 4)

Para reemplazar ta cadena, asegOrese
de que la ranura de ta barra guia este
encima de las 2 clavijas de ubicaci6n
y que la clavija de ajuste este en el
orificio debajo de la ranura. (vet figura
3)

Gire et tornitlo de cabeza hueca en
la parte delantera det cabezal de ta
sierra en sentido horario para tensar ta
cadena. (vet figura 2 det paso anterior)
Reemplace ta cubierta de ta rueda
dentada, ta abrazadera de ta barra y
los tornittos de cabeza hueca, en ese
orden.
Ajuste la tensi6n de la cadena antes
det uso.
AJUSTAR LA TENSION DE LA
CADENA DE LA SIERRA
Despues de retirar la bateria del
mango de potencia, retire et centro de

la cadena de ta barra en et centro de
la barra con los dedos (siempre con
guantes). La tensi6n sera correcta
cuando pueda jalar ta cadena 1/8"
(3,17 mm) (vet figura 5) de la barra y
se encaje a presi6n cuando se suelte.
La cadena no debe colgar fuera de la
barra.

CONEXION DEL ACCESORIO
CORTARRAMAS CON EL MANGO
DE POTEENClA
Aseg_rese de seguir tas siguientes
precauciones de seguridad cuando
conecte y desconecte tas herramientas
det mango de potencia.
Retire la bateria det mango antes de
conectar o desconectar herramientas.
Nunca toque los interruptores de
control en et mango de potencia
cuando conecte y desconecte
herramientas.

Para ajustar la tensi6n de la cadena,
afloje el tornitlo de cabeza hueca que
sostiene la abrazadera de ta barra.
Gire et tornitlo de cabeza hueca
det cabezal de ta sierra para aflojar
o ajustar la cadena segQn sea
necesario. Cuando la cadena este
con ta tensi6n correcta, ajuste los
dos tornitlos de cabeza hueca que
sostienen ta abrazadera de ta barra en
su lugar.
No ajuste en exceso la cadena porque
provocara et desgaste prematuro de
la cadena y de la barra. Et exceso
de ajuste tambien puede reducir ta
vida Qtitde la bateria y hacer que se
dispare et disyuntor.
Controle ta tensi6n de ta cadena a
menudo cuando sea nueva. La cadena
nueva se estira en las primeras horas
de uso.
LUBRICAR LA CADENA
Debe lubricar la cadena antes de cada
uso con tubricante de motor de peso
SAE30 o con aceite para cadena de
sierra. Lubrique la cadena en toda su
