+Power cord protection
To avoid any malfunctions of the unit and to protect against electric shock, fire or personal injury, please observe the following:
- Hold the plug firmly when connecting or disconnecting the AC power cord to this unit.
- Do not connect or disconnect the AC power cord when your hands are wet.
- Keep the AC power cord away from heating appliances.
- Never put any heavy object on the AC power cord.
- Do not attempt to repair or reconstruct the AC power cord in any way.
- Remove dust, dirt, etc. on the plug at regular intervals.
- If the unit has been dropped or otherwise damaged, turn off the power and disconnect the AC power cord.
- If smoke, odours or noises are emitted from the unit, turn off the power and disconnect the AC power cord.
+Placement
Avoid placing the unit in areas of:
- direct sunlight, heating radiators or closed automobiles
- high temperature [over 35 C (95 F)] or high humidity (over 90%)
- excessive dust
- vibration, impact or where the surface is tilted, as the internal parts may be seriously damaged
+Non-use periods
- When the unit is not used, turn the power off.
- When the unit is unused for a long period of time, the unit should be unplugged from the household AC outlet.
+No fingers or other objects inside
- Touching internal parts of this unit is dangerous and may cause serious damage to the unit. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit.
- Do not put any foreign object on the disc tray.
+Keep away from water and magnets
- Keep the unit away from flower vases, tubs, sinks, etc. If liquids are spilled into the unit, serious damage could occur.
- Keep magnetic objects, such as speakers, distant from the player.
+Stacking
- Place the unit in a horizontal position and do not place anything heavy on it.
- Do not place the unit on amplifiers or other equipment, which may become hot.
+Condensation
Moisture may form on the lens in the following cases:
- immediately after a heater has been turned on
- in a steamy or very humid room
- the unit is moved from a cold environment to a warm one
If moisture forms inside this unit, it may not operate properly.
In this case, turn off the power and wait about one hour for the moisture to evaporate.
+Noise interference on the TV while a broadcast is being received
Depending on the reception condition of the TV, interference may appear on the TV screen while you are watching a TV broadcast,
+if the unit is switched on. This is not a malfunction of the unit or the TV. To watch a TV broadcast, turn off this unit.

Remote Control
1. TITLE
To enter the video title.
2. AUDIO
Interchanges the sound reproduced depending on the
disc content.
3. SUBTITLE
Indicates the current subtitle mode.
4. Fast Backward Search
Fast backward search while playing.
5. Direction Key
Moves towards the left to select menu items.
6. Skip Next
Skips to the next movie section while playing.
7. Number Keys (0~9, +10)
Used for direct selection of numbered item in menu or
Number input for the function "GOTO".
8. ZOOM
Zooms in the motion picture.
9. GOTO
Used for the direct selection of TITLE, CHAPTER or TIME
for intended play.
10. PROGRAM
Used to select the sound tracks and their sequence of play.
11. REPEAT "1/ALL"
Repeats the current title or all titles.
12. REPEAT "A-B"
Repeats the sequence stipulated by two selected
playback points.
13. SETUP
Enters the device's setup menu screen to setup
according to preference. To adjust the audio volume
during playback.

Random mode while playing.

Change PAL/NTSC mode.

Used to cancel programmed titles or to clear the
number input.
17. DISPLAY
Screen display for indicating the playing modes.

The instructions in this manual are for the DVD-Video player. In addition to DVD-Video , this
player can also play Super VCD, Video CD, and audio CD, MP3.

Note on playback operations of DVD-Video and VIDEO CD
Some playback operations and interactivity of DVD-Video and VIDEO CD may be intentionally fixed
by software producers. Since this player plays DVD-Video and VIDEO CD according to the disk
contents that the software producers designed, some playback features may not be available. Users
should also refer to the instructions supplied with the DVD-Video or VIDEO CD.
Disk Organizations
The following describes the disk organization/structure for DVD-Video, VIDEO CD and Audio-CD.
DVD-Video:
l Title
l the longest sections of a picture or a music piece on a DVD-Video
la movie
l a picture piece on a video software or an album
lmusic piece on an audio software
l Each title is assigned a title number enabling you to locate the title you want.
l Chapter
Sections fo a picture or a music piece that are smaller than titles. A title is composed of
several chapters. Each chapter is assigned a chapter number so that the desired chapter
can be located. Depending on the disk, there may be no chapters recorded.

Region Code
DVD disc today has region code (1 - 6) or had been previously manufactured region free. The region
codes for DVD were designed to control the exportation of movies to other countries. Your DVD
player has been programmed at the factory to accept the current region code setting of your location.
The factory original setting can be determined by searching on shipping box or rear safety label
located on the DVD player for the Region Code logo. Should you experience not being able to play a
DVD disc on your player, you should confirm the Region Code of both the disc and player are the
identical. Should it be necessary for you to change the region code setting, you will need to contact
your dealer or closest service center.

Video CD/Audio CD:
l Track
Sections of a picture or a music piece on a VIDEO CD or an audio CD. Each track is
assigned a track number enabling the user to locate the desired track.

An index is a number that divides a track into some sections. Depending on how a disk is encoded,
there may not be any index recorded.
Scene
On a VIDEO CD with PBC functions, the menu screens, moving pictures and still pictures are
divided into sections called scenes. Each scene is assigned a scene number enabling the user to more
easily locate the desired scene.

This player currently conforms to versions 1.1 and 2.0 of VIDEO CD standards.

Incompatible disks
This player is incompatible with CD-ROM, Photo CD, CD-Extra, CDi , and DVD-ROM (data) disks.
However, some DVD players are able to play DVD-R (DVD recordable) disks, for example, a player
that uses a 2X speed DVD-ROM drive or a specific loader manufacturer.
Copy protection
This product features a copy protection function developed Macrovision. Copy protection signals
are recorded on some disks. When the user records and plays the picture on these disks using a video
deck, the picture noise will appear.
This product incorporates copyright protection technology that is protected by U.S. patents and other
intellectual property rights. Use of this copyright protection technology must be authorized by
Macrovision , and is intended for home and other limited pay-per-view uses only unless otherwise
authorized by Macrovision. Reverse engineering or disassembly is prohibited.

Unpacking
After unpacking the unit, insert the batteries into the remote.
Inserting batteries into the remote
Users control the player with the supplied remote control. Insert batteries by matching (+) and ( - )
polarities. When using the remote, point it at the remote sensor on the player.
When to replace batteries
With normal use, the batteries should last for about six months. When the remote no longer operates
the player, replace all the batteries with new ones.
Notes
Do not leave the remote in an extremely hot or humid place.
Do not drop any foreign object into the remote casing, particularly when replacing the batteries.

Do not expose the remote sensor to direct sunlight or lighting apparatuses. Doing so may
cause a malfunction.
If the remote control is not being used for an extended period of time, it is recommended theat
the batteries be removed to avoid possible damage from battery leakage and corrosion.
Hooking Up the System
Overview
This section describes how to hook up the DVD player to a TV (with audio/video input jacks)
and/or an amplifier. Users cannot connect this player to a TV without a video input connector.
Be sure to turn off the power of each component before making the connections.

To listen to sound through speakers connected to an amplifier
To listen to sound through TV speakers
If the TV or VCR has an S-video input connector, connect the component via the S-VIDEO OUT
connector using the S-video cable instead of the video connecting cord. A better picture will be
obtained.

Note that S-video can be played simultaneously with a composite video and an analog audio.
Assuming the receiver is so equipped, connect Dolby Digital (AC-3) with 5.1 channels, then connect
the player to the amplifier, and the amplifier to the six speaker connections between AC-3 decoder
and the speakers.
If the TV supports the S-Video signal and provides an S-Video connector, the connection to S-Video
can be made as shown in Figure 7.

If the amplifier supports the optical signal and provides an optical connector, the connection to

Necessary Setup Before Using the Player
Setting TV display
Using the remote control, press the Setup button to go into the TV setup menu. Please the menu
highlight on TV Display. Using the left/right arrow button, make the desired selection. Selections for
TV display are: PS, normal; LB normal; wide (for widescreen).
Press the Setup button again to leave the TV setup menu.
Setting audio output selection
Using the remote control, press the Setup button to go into the Audio setup menu. Place the menu
highlight on the Audio Output. Using left/right arrow button, make a selection for AC-3.
Audio setup
Also listed on the menu is a selection for AC-3 Setup. This menu for AC-3 setup will give the user an

1. Setting the TV
Assuming the DVD, TV and speaker are setup, turn on the TV and select the video input.
A logo should appear.
When using an amplifier
Turn on the amplifier and select a desired position so that viewers can enjoy the sound quality.
2. Press POWER to turn on the player.
The front panel should be activated (lit up) when the power is turned on.
3. Press and place the disk on the disk tray.
4. Press
The disk tray and front panel close, and the player starts playback (Continuous Play).
Adjust the volume on the TV or the amplifier.

Using the Title Menu
A DVD-Video is divided into long sections of a picture or a music piece called titles. The Title menu is
useful when the DVD title contains several titles; the desired title or chapter can also selected using
the title menu.
