1 Introduction
1.1 Validity
This document applies to the Video System Controller VSC-1. It has been produced on the
basis of version D1.7 (software).
Pictures in this document may differ from the actual product.
1.2 Documents
Commissioning
The document entitled “Commissioning” contains the most important steps for the connec-
tion and commissioning of the device.
Installation and Conguration (this document)
The document entitled “Installation and Conguration” contains detailed descriptions of
the installation, connection, commissioning and conguration of the device. Safety instruc-
tions, general notes and technical data are additionally provided.
The target audience is exclusively specially trained and authorized professionals (install-
ers).
1.3 Conventions
This document contains various warning words and symbols that indicate potential sources
of danger.
DANGER
DANGER indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result
in death or serious injury.
WARNING
WARNING indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could
result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION
CAUTION indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could
result in minor or moderate injury.
NOTICE
NOTICE indicates practices for preventing property damage, incorrect
congurations or faulty operations.

2 Safety Instructions
Only use this unit if it is technically in proper working order, to the intended purpose and
while keeping safety and potential dangers in mind.
Qualied personnel
Installation, mounting, connection, commissioning and conguration of the unit may only
be carried out by qualied personnel. This also applies to the maintenance, testing and re-
pair, whereat the regulations of the DIN VDE 0701 series of standards (repair, modication
and inspection of electrical appliances) must be followed.
Regulations
The use of video and audio surveillance systems in general is strictly regulated. Inform
yourself about the applicable laws and regulations regarding data, working and environ-
mental protection before using the unit and ensure compliance with them.
System components
Only use internal components that have been tested and approved by Dallmeier. Inappro-
priate internal components can cause malfunctions, damages and data loss and can result
in loss of warranty.
Modications
Do not make any modications to the hardware or software that has not been tested and
approved by Dallmeier. Inappropriate modications can cause malfunctions, damages and
data loss and can result in loss of warranty.
Documentation
Carefully and completely read the documents included in delivery. Always observe the
contained instructions, notes and warnings.
Condensation water
If the unit is brought from a cold to a warm environment, resulting condensation water
can cause malfunctions and damages. In this case wait (up to 8 hours) until the unit has
reached room temperature before commissioning.
Operating conditions
Unfavourable operating conditions can shorten the life of the unit and can cause malfunc-
tions, damages and data loss and can result in loss of warranty. Observe the specications
given in the technical data, the operating condition requirements and the maintenance
instructions.
Shocks
Shocks can cause malfunctions and damages. The unit may not be moved while in opera-
tion.
Foreign bodies
If objects or liquids get into the unit, immediately disconnect it from the power supply (pull
out the power plug). Contact the sales partner responsible for your area.

Burnt smell
If you notice burnt smell or formation of smoke from the unit, immediately disconnect it from
the power supply (pull out the power plug). Contact the sales partner responsible for your
area.
Opening
The housing of the unit may only be opened by qualied personnel for commissioning,
inspection, maintenance and repair.
Disposal
Disconnect the unit from the power supply. Remove all connected devices. Return the unit
to your respective sales partner.

3 General Notes
3.1 Scope of Delivery
Included in the standard scope of delivery is:
1× Keyboard VSC-1
1× Power supply unit (12 V DC)
1× Weidmüller plug connector 8-pin
1× USB cable
1× Documentation “Installation and Conguration” (CD)
1× Documentation “Commissioning” (in print)
The scope of delivery may differ depending on the ordered equipment, the device variant
or the country of destination.
The functional range of the device depends on the ordered equipment or device variant
and may differ from this document’s content. Certain functions and features may require an
activation that is subject to costs.
3.2 Transportation and Packaging
Store the original packaging for transportation at a later date. Dallmeier electronic is not
responsible for damage resulting from unprofessional/improper transportation. The goods
should only be shipped in their original packaging.
If the original packaging is no longer available, ensure that the packaging used sufciently
protects the unit against damage, moisture, heat and cold.
3.3 Appropriate Use
The Dallmeier VSC-1 (Video System Controller) is a keyboard for the remote control and
display of up to 24 cameras. Its ergonomic design and compact conguration allow a user
friendly and efcient operation even when little room is available.
3.4 Performance Features
• Remote control of speed, pan/tilt, focus, zoom and iris functions of the PTZ dome cam-
eras
• Interface controller: RS422, RS485 and USB
• Control via recorder (at USB) up recorder version V6.3.0
• Baud rate 2.4 up to 57.6 kbps

5 Connection and Commissioning
The VSC-1 can be connected directly via a USB port or via a DNI (Dallmeier Network Inter-
face) to the recorder and to the dome cameras.
Dome cameras normally will be connected via a DNI to the recorder. A connection via the
serial interface is available for special Dallmeier dome cameras.

VSC-1 and Dome are connected via a DNI. In this case searing is possible even if the re-
corder is switched off.

The domes are connected via a DNI, the VSC-1 via the USB interface. The conguration of
the DNI for the VSC-1 is not required.

guration”.

The domes are connected via the serial interface, the VSC-1 via the USB interface. The
conguration of the DNIs is not required.
For information for connection of the dome cameras via the serial interface refer to the
recorder’s and dome’s documentation “Installation and Conguration”.

5.1 Connection

Ensure that all components are disconnected from power supply before
connecting.
5.1.1 VSC-1 and Recorder via USB
The VSC-1 can be connected directly via a USB port to the recorder.
Connect the VSC-1 to a recorder’s USB interface using a USB cable.

5.1.2 VSC-1 and Recorder via DNI
Use a two-wire line to connect the DNI and the VSC-1.

5.1.3 DNI and Dome Camera
Use a two-wire line to connect the second DNI interface and the dome camera.
Rx+ (Dome) to data input A TxD+ (DNI)
Rx- (Dome) to data input B TxD- (DNI)
Set the ID number at the camera.
NOTICE
Potential malfunction of automatic camera switching!
The camera’s ID number must correspond to the respective video input on
the recorder.
Set the relevant protocol (Pelco-P) at the camera.
For detailed information refer to the documentation “Installation and Conguration” of the
respective camera manual.
5.1.4 Connection DNI and Recorder
Connect the DNI master to the recoder’s serial interface using a serial cable (RS232 with
1:1 assignment).

5.1.5 Connection DNI network
Connect the DNI slaves with the DNI master and to each other using a CAT5 patch cable
via the network interface (RJ-45/RS485).

5.2 Commissioning
When commissioning observe the following order:
Connect the DNI master to power supply if required.
Connect the dome camera to power supply.
Connect the VSC-1 to power supply.
Connect the recorder to power supply.
Start the recorder.

6 Conguration
The relevant monitor (VGA or CVBS) and the permission to use the VSC-1 can be set on
the recorder independent from the type of connection (DNI or USB).
Conguration of the serial interface and the DNI protocol is only required if a DNI is used.
Observer the recorder’s documentation “Installation and Conguration”.
Login at the recorder as Administrator.
6.1 Permissions on the Recorder
The permission OtherPermissions / Cameracontrol of the relevant user group has to be
activated separately in the UserManagement.
Selection and control of the camera is done on the control station, displaying of the images
on a recorder’s monitor. The VideoSystemController dialogue allows the specication
of the monitor and the split type that will be used. These settings are valid in every mode
(with or without login).
Additionally the dialogue allows the specication of the permission to use the control sta-
tion in Sequencer / Live mode (without login). This is done by adopting the permissions of
a user group.
Open the VideoSystemController dialogue via Setup > System > VSC.
